Most of the transcription was done by ear. The score for Gladiator is one of my all time favorite movie scores, and probably my favorite score composed by Hans Zimmer.
This brooding piece begins with some very tight voicings in the lower registers, characteristic of Hans' compositional style. As the third voice enters, the tonal structure becomes extremely dense with masterfully calculated dissonance. Soon the upper voices begin to rise and come into parallel octaves as the bass echoes in thundering triplets. Then the music descends until a single haunting theme is heard in the upper register. Finally the majestic and formidable conclusion is heard with its distinct use of the tritone.
I believe Hans said in an interview that this is his favorite piece from the Gladiator score, and it is definitely one of my favorites as well. It is the only piece in the score to employ fairly elaborate contrapuntal writing, which gives some uniqueness as compared to the rest of the score.

That's a great assessment of this piece in the description. Varying between haunting and powerful, this is one of Zimmer's most unique and underrated pieces, and it's easily one of my favorites by him.
