it should be noted here that on this particular revision of Sega's Tetris the first game played will always deal out the same sequence of pieces, which is something Japanese players have used to try and plan out a perfect game.
So the strat here is to get all clears (aka. perfect clear, bravo), right? It seems like the score is 10 times more than a regular line clear world. Example, a Tetris all clear on speed level 5 worth 100000 instead of 10000 (note the zeroes).
Getting the whole board cleared causes the line clear bonus score to be multiplied by 10. Getting a single, which clears the board will cause the bonus score to increase from 100 points to 1000 if done on level 1. The earliest example of All Clear bonus happens on 2:10 mark of the video. In that case, the player clears the board while clearing 3 lines at once by placing J tetromino in its designed spot. Normal bonus for getting a triple on level 2 is 1800 points. Getting the board cleared will multiply that bonus by 10, causing it to become 18000 points.
he is stalling to raise the level counter, and thus the points scored. level goes up[ every 4 lines, OR after time. by stalling and raising the level before clearing lines he gets more points for his pieces. Once he reaches level 8, he knows he will hit 9 before the first bravo, so there's no point in stalling anymore as the scoring potential is highest o level 9 and higher. The piece sequence is set in stone from the start of the game. if you fire this rom up, you can do exactly the same thing this player did.
@@zaphod77 The seed used for randomization of pieces changes after each game over. On the non-bootleg version, the new seed gets saved to NVRAM. To get the power-on sequence, you will have to clear the NVRAM before starting the game. This can be done by removing appropriate NVRAM file, if you're on MAME emulator. The B-system version doesn't use NVRAM, since the new seed gets written to RAM instead. Rebooting the arcade machine causes the seed to be cleared, which in term causes the power-on sequence to occur. In that case, the power-on sequence is different.
@@Titanic4 Close but not quite. the game generates the 1000 piece sequence when a game is started. when no one else is already playing. if a second player joins in, they get the same sequence. if the first player then dies while player 2 is still playing, and starts a new game before player two dies, s/he get the same sequence again. when both players game over at the same time, then a new sequence is generated. it also advances once at game over if you let the monkey pick an animation.

The example happens at 8:12, in case you're wondering.

Why is he stalling the placement of each block in the beginning. What is the gain in this?
I think it is to manipulate the sequence of pieces.

LV15以上は、【十字レバーを下に下げない】様にすると、ブロックが落ちる僅かな時間が出来るから、その間にブロックをどう配置するかを考えるとやりやすい
