I actually really like this use of AI. As a horror fan, this surreal imagery is really interesting to look at. It really invokes some disturbing thoughts and feelings that I don’t think it would if it were human made… Something about an amalgamation of technology creating nightmare fuel makes it that much scarier.
I said this in my own comment, but I feel like if we can find a way to make things like this without content theft (maybe like if a creator fed it their own work that they made rather than using copyrighted stuff from other people), it could actually be used as a tool for surreal horror, especially if you combine it with another medium, like live action.

I do believe AI can be used in actual time intensive tasks that rely on brute forcing every possibility to find the answer, but I don't understand it being used for more "creative" endeavors. It's cool to see what uncanny things it spits out, but the power and computing power needed to make something that isn't slop is too trivial. AI should be only be used to narrow down results and make suggestions, not be calling the shots.

Honestly, if we can find a way to do something like this without stealing content from other people to train it, I can see how this can be used as a tool to make some kind of surrealist horror piece or even a scene in a larger, probably live action horror film, similar to how Courage the Cowardly Dog occasionally used cheap, early, uncanny valley CGI to great effect for horror. The big issue of course is the content theft. Maybe if a creator who actually does make their own content fed it their own work that they created with their own human skill and actually own and had it make its own interpretation of said work, that would count more as art than someone taking the creative process out entirely and having a computer do the whole thing for them on the backs of other people's work.

Sometimes, if you have a dog, your dog freaks out if you scream in excitement, because he doesn't know all screams aren't screams of alarm. Only other humans can tell, and in fact, sometimes _we_ can't tell. I once heard my neighbor's kid screaming and it sounded like how they always scream while playing. And then suddenly there were sirens outside because the kid has actually been bit by their dog, and I couldn't tell the scream was a different scream of pain. Also in the movie Nope, part of the sound direction choice was to record people screaming in horror, and people screaming as if on a fun fair ride, and then the two recordings were overlapped. This was done intentionally to confuse the viewer's brain because you couldn't tell if you were hearing screams of joy or screams of fear. I really think AI would have a hell of a time understanding that humans scream differently for fear than joy. If you tell it that humans scream for both fear and joy, the AI likely assumes either those are both the same feeling, or all screams mean both things and subtle pitch changes don't matter. Even us humans would have trouble explaining in words, how you can even tell a scream is from excitement, fear, pain, anger, etc. We just can, because it's deeply rooted in out social bonds, and that's not something you can really teach even to other social animals, they have their own specific pitch cues and they can't just learn ours, and it usually confuses them.

AI (at least in creative fields) will only ever be used as a tool. The reason for this is simple: people generally don't like pure AI content. If it's not marketable, people won't buy it. But it can save alot of time in mundane tasks, which saves the company alot of money. That being said loved the video it made me haha!
