For one, they work incredibly hard 6 days a week for 12 hour days Mon-Fri and are not compensated enough. They are incredibly well-spoken, command attention in a room easily, and are the most intelligent human being I've ever met - Kim simply doesn't have the qualities needed to suceed and be taken seriously by clients and in a court of law.

I’m very sure she saw him working hard and that’s why she worked hard to create businesses back then and is still doing so now, but with her recent passion for social activism that hard work molded into something else. Give this woman some credit. Yeah it’ll be hard for her to be taken seriously at times but she has what it takes that’s for sure.

      @jjk4891 4 года назад +23

      OldSoulMillennial Even if she did not appreciate her father’s life back when she was young doesn’t mean she still will not. Also, she doesn’t need to be a full time lawyer and keep her pipelines to make a living. I also was very curious on why she has announced to study law and looked a bit up. Her motivations are at least good. She wants to study law to help some people in prison that deserve a second chance in life. Why discourage someone when they are trying to make a difference and show a different side of themselves? After all, most people have been trash talking about her being light-headed, I think it would be a nice chance for her to prove them wrong and/or at least show that she tried.

  • @lalaland59
    @lalaland59 5 лет назад +1674

    The way I understood it, from her interviews, she is doing this BECAUSE she wants to better understand the changes that she is inducing with her platform, and how to help more, not because she wants a regular career as a lawyer.
    So the practical approach that she has chosen is actually really fitting in her situation, she can work around her schedule, while getting the knowledge needed to make the changes she wants to make at the same time.
    And, to the fact that people think that she has used her connections to get the apprenticeship in a high-profile law firm, is not a very uncommon case. Every single person jumpstarts their career based off of what connections their family has. Some of us just happen to be more/less fortunate than others. And in Kim’s case, the connections that she has, or most of them, is because of her own celebrity status and not her family, which is pretty impressive actually.

In 2018 they literally failed 64% of exam takers. Also if all states used the same bar exam don’t you think you would be able to move and practice at another state without re-taking it...

      @@groundtofu4238 I believe every state uses the MBE (multistate bar exam) for one day of its testing. The bar exam is over multiple days. In Texas, I had to do: (day 1) state law true/false, the MPT, then (day 2) the MBE, then (day 3) the essay portion (which was 12 essays in 6 hours). The MBE is 200 multiple choice, but the multiple choice are not two sentences, it's a long fact pattern and two of the answers are usually right, one it just more right than the other. And I believe 25 of the questions don't count, they're practice questions for the test makers. It sucks. The MBE is hard, but it's usually the essay/state portions that people fail on.

      The problem is that a very large portion of the human race is highly deranged and immoral. Their condescension towards her is all based on some psychological need to feel superior, as well as the fact that Kim's plan presents a disturbance to their insular imaginations, in which Kim is supposed to play her own specific role which she can never deviate from. The very notion that Kim Kardashian could do anything besides modeling and reality TV obliterates their entire perception of reality, where the Kardashians are ditzy women in bikinis who cannot compete intellectually with "smart" people like lawyers , doctors, etc.

I mean, good for her for wanting to become a lawyer and using her wealth, social network and knowledge to help people. I don't think she's dumb or talentless at all. But the way she presented herself in the past has caused harm. For example: she has used her platform to promote a lot of really unhealthy ways to lose weight (often laxatives, which by the way is something fitting to an eating disorder). That doesn't mean she now has to be put in the 'bad corner'. Or that she can't improve/change. All the power to her. It brings visibility, diversity etc. Yes the inequality sucks but shouldn’t negate someone else’s degree or studies. When someone accomplished something in my mind its a win for everyone. I think it pulls people down or is embarrassing if people don’t achieve and know their shit like collective reflection rather than someone else achieving hurts the other achieves as if it’s competitive zero sum game. That’s just my opinion though and others are fair to feel differently.

    4. Though she makes a good amount of money , Most is spent on normal stuff like food , bills , stuff like that but also a lot on baby sitters which most of these babysitters were the most terrible people I’ve met and emotionally abused me throughout my childhood
    5. My mom really REALLY cares about her reputation and any little mistake infront of any people she works with will guarantee get me a beating

    I think another reason why Kim’s studying law is that she’s tired of having the label as just a celebrity. People give tons of bashing towards her when she gets asked as to why she became famous. Maybe she’s just tired of that. Kim might also considered the fact that she has the privilege to study law and be more knowledgeable whenever she speaks about legal things that happens around the world (like the injustice to Ma’am Johnson), she (maybe) wants to use her power as a globally known person to give the people who use the internet/people who know her something to think of, that it’s about time she gets up on her feet and do something where she can become a role model to others. Sadly she gets ton of negative comments about her journey as of now. I hope people get to be open minded about it eventually.

      tired of having the label as just a celebrity? she has said that she is meant to be famous and she clearly loves the lifestyle and the attention. i truly don't think she is tired of it.
      I 100% support celebrities, like Kim, that use their fame/power for the better, but I can't genuinely support a woman that establishes unreal body standards for women and that openly criticizes certain body characteristics that are totally normal (for example, stretch marks and cellulite).
      even though I will support any kind of positive change she may try to do - like becoming a lawyer and fighting for people's rights - I believe that most people give her backlash because of her whole persona that is based on physical attributes, money and nothing else.
      that being said, if she wants to become a lawyer, she should go for it. maybe this time she will actually impact the world in a positive way.

    • @esmescuppabook2557

      Teresa G. Yeah, but maybe she wants to change now. We’ll never know. We don’t know her personally, we just see her through the internet or TV. And yes she’s established an unrealistic body image for people, that’s how she is. That’s what she wanted. If she has that changed now, she might lose people from her followers and have a less impact as how she wants it to be. My point it, let’s just give Kim a chance even if she’s done stuff in the past that we do not approve. She’s still human after all, we all make mistakes in life. Maybe she wants to do something right that people will acknowledge instead of bringing her down.

      If she does well and gets serous about her career, she'll probably be in the spotlight and public opinion of her will shift and change with her. Justin Bieber is cool now for girls bros, but he was not always perceived that way. Same Victoria Beckham, Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift. Yes, she's getting a lot of backlash. I even lol'd when I first heard about it. But, she's going about it in a legit fashion, and if she ends up actually being able to practice on her own- Props to her. She's getting old and probably wants a real job that isn't entirely based on her looks. Whatever it is, though, public opinion of you does shift as time goes on and things change.

      @@Pomagranite167 100% agreed. she has the right and the means to choose whatever she wants to do with her life/career.
      but I truly don't think she wants to change the image she is portraying now, based on her instagram and her tv show (which in reality is a shit show)
      i think it's great that she is so woke and informed about prison reform, but please... what about the millions of people she is influencing via her instagram to have the notion of unrealistic bodies as normal bodies, to use diet products (that she doesn't even use, btw) that are bad for your health, and to thrive for a life where money and luxury are flaunted? this kardashian culture is not cute. it's toxic.
      if she wants to be a lawyer, she should go ahead. if she is able to make changes in the prison system, I'll applaud her. but please do not forget the amount of power that a person like kim kardashian has over this generation. before we praised her for wanting to become a lawyer, it would be good to see her be a little more grateful and grounded and for her to have just a little bit of notion of the world we actually live in.

And at the end of the first year of her apprenticeship, she takes an exam to ensure that she’s worth the program’s time and resources. If she fails that, it’s game over. If she passes, she still has three more years of apprenticed learning, which is waaaay longer than a traditional law degree. The way she is doing this isn’t for the faint of heart. It would be difficult to be a mother of four, be a successful CEO, and be available for 18-22 hours per week to study.

    Here's the thing, I am all for girl power. I am all for Kim getting an education and bettering herself and having dreams. I'm all for clients getting extra support from whoever will give it to them. With all that said, I do have a few concerns. Preface: I am a barred attorney.
    So, in almost all the states in the US, a person will have to go to traditional law school either for 3 years as a day student, or 4 years as an evening student. Based on how long Kim is studying to be able to take the bar, she is probably handling the course load of more of an evening student (since she can only take the bar after 4 years of apprenticeship). The apprenticeship requires that she work for 18 hours a week. First, that is considerably less time than any law student would spend on coursework in a week. An evening student is taking somewhere around 10 credits a semester (maybe more, maybe a little less). That means that he/she is in the classroom for 10 hours a week. That student is not only taking an additional 8 hours a week to study. There is no way. Traditional law students are spending much more time than that studying. In law school we have the socratic method, meaning that teachers will call on us out of the blue as the person "on call" either for a case or the whole class. Students need to be prepared. So we have to read all the cases assigned and brief (look up law school brief for guidance as to what this means) them in some way to be prepared to be "cold called" (that's what we call it) in front of the entire class. A law school student is certainly studying double the time that they are in class a week, more during finals or when final assignments are due. So, even an evening student would be studying or in class at least 30 hours a week. In my opinion, the apprenticeship requirements for hours do not nearly equate to the rigor of traditional law school.
    Further, the apprenticeship program is structured completely differently than law school. In Kim's program, she takes periodic tests to help her progress through the coursework. In traditional law school, your grades are based on ONE final test at the end of the course, or ONE paper, depending on the class. There are no progressional tests. Further, every grade that students get is based on a curve of their peers. Each student gets a grade that fits into how the rest of the students did. Therefore, in every class there will only be a few As, a bunch of Bs and Cs. You get jobs and opportunities based on your rank and how you rated against others. Kim will have none of that curve and none of the typical testing.
    I don't really believe that even if Kim completes this apprenticeship and passes the bar, that she will be bringing the same knowledge and depth of experience that she would be if she had attended law school. First, in law school, students are being taught by professors, who are the experts in their field. They can answer in depth questions about that area of law and help students see any nuances that they wouldn't otherwise know about. Having an expert teach you the law is much different than teaching yourself. Even though Kim has mentors, both of them are experts in criminal law, not in bankruptcy, income tax, torts, contracts, secured transactions, corporations, etc.They may be able to give her the basics, but they are not going to give her expertise in those areas. In law school we are completing clinics, where we act as attorneys under the supervision of a professor, usually to help low income groups. We are joining groups like trial team, moot court board, alternative dispute resolution team, and law journals, which help prepare us to be in the courtroom and prepare the documents necessary to act as an actual attorney (think motions, briefs, etc.). We are doing simulated projects in class (usually for no grade, just a dock if we don't do them) where we draft agreements, negotiate settlements, etc. We are holistically being prepared practically as well as through books. Kim is not getting that experience.
    Also, Kim is not bringing any educational background to the table. For most people, they had to obtain a 4 year undergraduate degree (and have gotten very good grades while doing it) to get into law school. They also had to take the LSAT (and score well) in order to apply for and get into law school. They are armed with knowledge and a base education from their undergraduate studies, as well as writing skills, knowing how to study, and many things that will help their clients in the future. I don't think her future clients will be getting as good of a situation with her as their attorney as if they had someone who had a broader educational background. Unfortunately, Kim can't go to law school because she would need a 4 year degree to do so.
    Lastly, the program that Kim does leads to a woefully low pass rate for the CA bar. It's also worth noting that only a few states even permit people to get a law degree studying this way. The CA bar is known as the hardest in the USA. Many states have transitioned into the universal bar exam (I think its around 30 states), which has around a 60-65% pass rate for all test takers each administration. Every year in CA, only around 40% of the takers each administration pass (in February 2018, the pass rate was in the 20s%). Around 60% of first time takers pass (you are much more likely to pass the first time than if you fail and are taking it again). For people who have taken the path that Kim is taking to be able to sit for the bar, the pass rate for the bar exam is somewhere around 2-3%. Even if she makes it through her 4 year program, she only has a 2-3% chance of passing the bar at all. Without passing the bar, she will not become a lawyer. That low pass rate tells you a little bit about the disparities in education that she is receiving. To see an analysis of the probability of her passing the exam, please see this law professor's estimate of 1/200. www.quora.com/Will-Kim-Kardashian-West-pass-the-bar-exam?no_redirect=1
    I think that the work Kim is doing is fabulous. However, I think that she is doing more for people in the position she is in now than she would be as an attorney. There are plenty of lawyers who are passionate about prison reform and helping to commute people's sentences. What these people need is for the President to give a crap about their cases. What Kim does is bring visibility to these people and their situation so that the President will listen. Visibility is crucial. To bring that visibility, she doesn't need a law degree. She is doing great work as it is. She likely would be able to bring more visibility if she wasn't spending time on her apprenticeship.

They have businesses they're running, KKW Beauty, Kylie Cosmetics, Good American and the list goes on. They are working for their own money and supporting their families and they don't owe anyone else a fucking thing. Since we are talking Kim Kardashian, why do you want her to help so many people? She met with the president to help get a woman out of prison just that alone is more than a lot of people have ever done for someone they don't even know. Not to mention the amount of money they donate to charity, you should do your research. There's clearly a bias, people who disagree with the choices she made when she was only 23 years old can't fathom that people are not the same person 15 years later. An "educated" person would know that one sex tape does not create the amount of money that it would take to build the Kardashian/Jenner empire, that in itself is pretty damn ignorant. Kim was already hustling and a lot of her fame came from Paris Hilton on The Simple Life, a lot of people don't even know who the hell Ray J is and most likely wouldn't even know about the tape if it weren't for people continuously bringing it up to share their opinion about her character. I feel like people like you really need to take the stick out of their asses and recognise that even if their colossal fame did stem from one video, they turned it around and made a name for themselves and that's pretty impressive. Reality TV isn't for everyone, as an "educated woman" you should just watch the things you like instead of the things you don't. you'd be a much happier person for it.
