    The cello sounds powerful and energetic, and the bass sounds so smooth and gentle, so therefore I like both.

      I have to say I think it’s mainly the style of the players that is causing that effect. The bassist is very good but he’s using about 25 percent of the power that bass has to offer, but the cellist is going all in.

    I always saw the violin family as being like dogs. The small ones (violin; like chihuahuas) are agressive, loud, and hyperactive. The medium ones (cello; like, say, golden retrievers) are also active but gentle at the same time and warm and friendly. The large ones (bass), the ones who look scariest and most intimidating, are actually the most gentle ones.
    Right?

    • @matonano
      @matonano 3 года назад

      This. Both are beautiful sounds, but the warm tone and fuller resonance gives a certain intense and mournful character to the cello. Sort of like the duduk’s velvety sound compared to other similar instruments.
      The bass was great, but the notes felt less full. They’re correct, but flatter sounding-dryer, I guess you could say. In the end, that subtlety is intentional, I believe. It’s intended purpose is usually to compliment loads of other instruments rather than solos.

    • @velxcity07
      @velxcity07 4 года назад

      Zachary Owen exactly that’s exactly what I thought. I guess the bass is more soothing because of how high the notes were for a bass, so the shifting made the notes mellower. I play viola so when it comes to mellow I’ve heard it all.

    • @BecauseHeLives39
      @BecauseHeLives39 4 года назад +1

      Jaan McFadden yea, ya know great kinda think alike lol. I play bass in a school orchestra and I can tell u, our violas are much better sounding than 90%of our violins who can’t keep their e strings in tune. I much prefer viola because they are more mellow and sound better imop. There are two cellos and myself as the only bass in our orchestra. One question I have for a violist, do you think it’s harder to learn the viola of the violin? I’m also thinking about learning the viola because I have fatter fingers and I tried my friends violin and one thing I learned about violin, my fingers aren’t made for it lol.

    • @velxcity07
      @velxcity07 4 года назад

      Zachary Owen the viola is easier because with the violin they shift a lot and move their fingers a lot, plus the melody is the most challenging. My school orchestra has 5 violas, 13 violins, three cellos and zero basses. It kind of sucks because the bass provides the rumble of the orchestra and without it, it’s just all scratchy and squeaky and high. My viola is really small almost the size of a violin, but I think my fingers are most suitable for a cello.

    • @BecauseHeLives39
      @BecauseHeLives39 4 года назад +1

      Jaan McFadden I would also think so too but think about learning a new clef which I can’t read and didn’t even know about till 6th grade lol. But yea, y’all need a bass player bc it adds a low end foundation to the orchestra. Good thing about bass is that the basics are pretty easy and you don’t get solos at all lol.

    • @velxcity07
      @velxcity07 4 года назад +1

      Zachary Owen if you thought having no basses is bad listen to this: we have no second violins either. And the violas play so quietly that basically all you can hear are the cellos and violins. Sucks, right? 😂
