At first I was mad about how little sense this scene made and then I realized that all the flaws were probably in there for liability reasons. The same reason you don't show how to build a real bomb in a movie: some dipshits will watch the movie, copy it, and then get up to all kinds of bullshit. So I think to myself: yeah, they fucked this up on purpose so idiots don't learn anything that makes them dangerous in the real world.
I guess they should have hired a real gunsmith and weapons expert as consultants while making this movie, judging by the many gun experts comments/disapproval here.
It's more insulting than anything, how hard would it have been to hire literally 1 gun enthusiast to explain we dont use those terms, or you dont hold a rifle like that, or you dont explain something in these terms Like this car is so awesome it goes 0-1,000 feet in .12 minutes and the motor is all metal so you know its reliable
The muzzle velocity is actually around 2900 to 3300 fps from a 223/556 out of an 18" ruger mini 14 barrel. The speed of sound is around 1125 fps that's over 760 mph a 223 can do 3 times that basically.
Muzzle velocity: 360 miles per hour. In another action flick, a guy draws a semi auto pistol and declares "17 rounds, muzzle velocity, 1000 meters per second." In a werewolf movie, a guy says he modified his rifle to shoot bullets at Mach 20. (Yeah, it's a werewolf movie, but still.) They must use the same technical consulting agency that House M.D. used for the MRI scenes.
probably mean feet per second...Prat's the woblem? who cares? it looks cool and Tekla takes up most of my eyeball movement 😀😍 so the technical babble is just for cool background
Who gives the muzzle velocity in mph?? And 360mph at that!! Jesus, that's 528fps, a pellet gun can do better. In Europe, the reference would be meters per second. Maybe, just maybe, feet per second for American audiences. No one speaks miles per hour in rifle ballistics. Bad Clooney.
Thank you. When this movie came out I wasn't into guns, but now I have my own pistols and rifles (and a CCW permit) and I have since learned a ton from both RUclips and the internet generally, and this scene is total bullshit! As with this film most of what I see that comes out of Hollywood is utter nonsense. They are anti-gun people that make half their money on films that glorify and yet give tons of misinformation on guns.
Alien Specimen bullet velocity is measured in feet per second not miles an hour. And you need sub sonic ammunition for a sound suppressor to actually work correctly it wont make standard ammo silent just less loud a rifle will sound like a handgun and a handgun will sound like a twenty two.
The sound you hear as actually a large part the sound of a subsonic bullet passing close by you down range. The inference in Holywood land is that silencers are completely silent bar the slightly bassey “dumph” and the rest is bullet noise - that curious sonic noise of Holywood films meaning to be the bullet. Two things, yes some are as silent as Holywood portrays, say a .22 suppressed. But you’ll never hear the entire sound from Holywood p, or hopefully you shouldn’t as you’ll never be the wrong side of the firearm. That is down range of the muzzle with the bullet passing your ears. A lot of times Holywood silencer scenes are shot from in front of the shooter. So whilst Holywood does get flak fro it’s suppressor sound it’s actually slightly more accurate than people realise, at least from a viewer who’d be down range. The thing is when folk look up RUclips vids they tend to be shot from the side. So no wonder the sound isn’t the same. There are a couple of videos of subsonic rounds and suppressors being filmed down range where the bullet passes close by and what do you know? Holywood sound. It’s doubtful Holywood ever used a real gun in the early days of Foley. More sampled something else and used sound production and compressors to give it the bassey, clipped note you hear. These days of course it’s recreated totally digitally on software.
@Rocket Chicken Yeah even Mythbusters did a show on suppressors and were amazed to find that you can achieve very quiet results with the right loads and suppressors. Of course the Mini 14 usually takes a high pressure/high velocity round so it will still make a loud crack more or less immediately after leaving the barrel so I suspect that nonsense in this scene about not being able to locate the shot is more Hollywood bullshit. If I've learned anything since I became well acquainted with firearms and ballistics, it's that Hollywood gets almost **everything** wrong about guns in their movies.
At least this motivated me to look up what my bullet speed is in MPH. I get just under 3k fps. At 3k, it's 2,045 MPH. And I have 4 to 6 inches between my eye and 4-12x 40mm scope.
with all the effort they put into movies these days, you'd think they would of showed her how to hold a rifle. Did they ever mention the caliber of the rifle, or if she specified one? Just courious how she comishioned this weapon. Sounds like she basically said...'suprise me'
Does anybody else notice in this film after all of the other pain-staking, realistic shit...that when she asks muzzle velocity he says 360 miles per hour? That equates to around 528 fps, which is the speed of a super kolibri .22, significantly less than a .22 CB Long rifle. Neither even needs a silencer!!! Mercury fulminate fucking explosive bullets...realistic suppressor noise CORRECT with sonic crack for a .223 round from a mini 14, and he gives the velocity in mph incorrectly?!?! RAGE
Look I know this is Hollywood bullshit but she's assembled the barrel bits right handed but then screws the silencer left hand threaded and tightens it up without loosening up the other bits.
What was with the tense music as he was aiming? Was he thinking of shooting his client for some reason? It'd be a shame to ruin that nice tight dress....
with logistical errors but still entertaining ... the book is much better, excellent in fact because Martin Booth is/was a brilliant writer on any subject you choose ... unfortunately he did not direct the movie

20mph off with sound suppression? That makes no freaking sense. At all. Fun fact: The average bullet travels at 2,500 feet per second, which is realistically around 1,700 mph. If you reacted to the sound of the gun going off and required 0.20 seconds (which is about twice that of the fastest Olympic sprinters) to react, then you would need to be at least 500 feet away to successfully dodge a bullet.
@iTzzEuphoriaaaaaa Well it depends, since it's a home made silencer (supposedly from car parts) you could do it either way...but yet again another broken ass piece of this movie >(. I mean everything else was done so well...
When she goes to setup the target, you can see that she is not wearing any panties! She was trying to seduce him. The sunlight shines through her dress! Starting 1:20
gary K well the scope that’s on the gun has a rubber extension on the back about an inch and a half from the first lense, so you actually put the whole thing in front of your eye socket. Very similar to the Russian pso-1 scope
At first I was mad about how little sense this scene made and then I realized that all the flaws were probably in there for liability reasons. I love how she adjusts Up an Down to fix Right to Left.
Virtually everything is wrong with the gun stuff. 360mph? Riiiight.
It shot low.

Expert assassin. Keeps chicken wing lifted while firing...smh.
She even tells him to tighten the screws on her gun like any decent assassin would not go over their own gun and make any adjustments themselves.

Gotta love the Magical guns with no recoil.
It's not magical, it's just that the cartridges only had enough powder to propel the bullet 360 miles per hour. lol
haha, indeed, even my 0.177 caliber Gamo Hunter Maxxim airrifle recoils...
Muzzle velocity: 360 miles per hour.

Why don't they hire a gun expert for movies like this? Just a few small changes and they could fix all the bs that makes it so unbelievable
Look at her scope and eye distance 😂😂😂😂
Who gives the muzzle velocity in mph?? And 360mph at that!! Jesus, that's 528fps, a pellet gun can do better. In Europe, the reference would be meters per second. Maybe, just maybe, feet per second for American audiences. No one speaks miles per hour in rifle ballistics. Bad Clooney.
you mean "bad writing"
Hollywood gets gun stuff wrong more than it gets it right. There's more gun misinformation caused by the movies than anywhere else.
rkcbva
Who gives a damn
Enjoyed the scene ...thats it
The KAR 98 WW2 weapon imagine is 2728 FPS if that shit is 500+ fps you might survive shot in the head
As a person who actually shoots guns....none of this made sense.
Thank you. When this movie came out I wasn't into guns, but now I have my own pistols and rifles (and a CCW permit) and I have since learned a ton from both RUclips and the internet generally, and this scene is total bullshit! I assume she has no rounds in the magazine. The Mini 14 has a bolt hold open on last round. But facts don't matter here.
360 mph velocity. 😂😂😂
Care to explain why?
Alien Specimen bullet velocity is measured in feet per second not miles an hour. And you need sub sonic ammunition for a sound suppressor to actually work correctly it wont make standard ammo silent just less loud a rifle will sound like a handgun and a handgun will sound like a twenty two.
I love the sound the suppressed weapons make in films... Would be nice if they would sound like this in real life...
They do if you use subsonic ammo and an excellent suppressor with a damping liquid and a wipe.
My suppressed is quieter, the majority of the sound is the actual bolt action.
@Rocket Chicken Yeah even Mythbusters did a show on suppressors and were amazed to find that you can achieve very quiet results with the right loads and suppressors. Calm down folks! It's just a movie! Not everyone is a gun fundamentalist!
At least this motivated me to look up what my bullet speed is in MPH. I get just under 3k fps. At 3k, it's 2,045 MPH. And I have 4 to 6 inches between my eye and 4-12x 40mm scope.
This is what I call a romantic picnic ...

It could have been more so. They left out the part where she lays sideways on the picnic blanket and gives him a sexy look.
with all the effort they put into movies these days, you'd think they would of showed her how to hold a rifle. Did they ever mention the caliber of the rifle, or if she specified one? Just courious how she comishioned this weapon. Sounds like she basically said...'suprise me'
Anyone els realize that she puts her eye right on the scope
BRUH. her eye should be gone
And there was no recoil.
Considering the muzzle velocity (360 mph?) is less than most handguns, I'm not surprised at the lack of recoil.
It has a rubber eyeshade. Made to have your eye up to it.

Anybody realize that they never put bullets in the mag?
Be great if George had this attitude to firearms in real life.
Did you miss the part where the character is a murderer?
Try about 2100 mph or 3100 fps. DIP
I need to change my suitcase combination.

"But just to make sure"
"Go stand over there and shoot it at me" ...... Gun safety....

Danny Ocean stole that recoil right under her nose
Bon film
