Love the finished product - simple and classy. The only change I would personally make is to not glue the 2 pieces of wood together in the event your charging cable needs to be replaced.

Great suggestion. It won't look to pretty underneath but I suppose that doesn't really matter. Thanks for watching!

@@industrialcomfort perhaps magnets or very short screws from underneath could do it?

Hi, which iPhone model do you have? Lol sorry I have so many questions. I just got an iPhone 11 that can only charge on a wireless pad charger. I’ve been researching like crazy, a lot of what I’ve read has said that even case thickness can impact charging results, so I would think that a thicker wood would perhaps make it charge slower. Also since you’ve made this, how hot has everything gotten? Does it overheat? The charger itself in the wood? This turned out beautiful and I’d love my husband to make me one for mine. I’m just a worrier and kind of low income so I can’t afford to buy a charger pad and do this and have it get too hot. Thanks for your reply if you see this.

Hi Lisa - no worries at all. I have built a few different models of charging pads and this one just happens to be one that I filmed. To be honest, this one, while the best looking, does not operate as well as some of the others I have used. Mine does not overheat but most chargers have an auto-regulation feature for when the charger gets too hot. Unfortunately I cannot find the model of charger that I used previously to send over to you. If you're concerned about over-heating I would recommend drilling holes into the bottom of the charger housing. This will easily allow the charging pad to vent. Hope that helps and thanks for watching!

@@industrialcomfort Thank you so much for getting back with me! I’m gonna just get a basic charger and see how that goes for awhile till I figure out how to work the new phone. Then I’ll probably upgrade the charger and have my husband make me one of these. I’m saving this video for that time! Tysm!

I like what you’re doing and want to go beyond simply embedding the charger in a piece of wood. How about embedding the charger into a workbench or even a toolbox with a battery?

Hi Courtney - this is actually a lot easier as you really don’t need to worry about the appearance from below. In fact, if you have a large enough forstner bit you can sometimes just drill out a pocket from beneath the surface of the bench and either hot glue or epoxy the wireless charging element in place.

Nicest one I have seen yet, Could you add a Stand on it so it can sit up while charging ?

Thank you, Darin. I thought about doing one that style and, to be honest, it would be easier to center on the charging ring.
