I think this might be *the best* 9/11 doc period. What makes this film so special is that it has no agenda. It picks no side, has no political axe to grind, promotes no theories, showcases no single event, no single person or group,, and has no scripted narration. This film simply confronts you with the brutal honesty of the common man’s 9/11 experience.

The ones who died who I felt the worst for on 9/11 were those who jumped to their deaths. Those jumping deaths were still officially classified as murders, because those poor souls faced a horrific choice of either burning to death in the fire, or slowly choking to death on the smoke. They chose to end their life by jumping rather than die by fire. I’ll never forget seeing those poor people die like that on 9/11. RIP!

And as grim as it obviously is, it's also kind of interesting to see how people reacted initially because the full story about the hijacking wasn't immediately known-people speculating that it was a bomb or something, or that the plane had hit the building accidentally (which I imagine went out the window when the second one hit).

I was a 24 year old starting my fledgling career in media, living in a studio basement apartment on the corner of 6th and E Capitol Street, DC. I had woken up earlier than usual that morning, was working nights at a music venue. But something compelled me to wake up when I did and turn on the TV. It was moments before the second plane hit. I was petrified, not moving from my futon for hours, watching everything unfold. It wasnt until later that I put the pieces together about the plane that went down in Shanksville, how it was likely destined to target the Capitol building, and just thinking how they would logically approach it, coming in from the west along the Mall to get low enough, and thinking of the path of destruction that would have literally stretched to my front door. I know it is an experience that pales in comparison to having lost a loved one that day, in terms of impact, but just to commiserate with others, I suffered an incredible amount of PTSD that went on for pretty much the rest of the decade, untreated, and really screwed me up in the head. I share my little personal story in the hopes that, if you feel like I do about that day - despair, confusion, anxiety, depression, fear, anger...know that you are not alone. I felt so alone for so long. I can only hope as I revisit some of this footage for the first time in a long time, that it does not trigger an anxiety attack, but in all honesty, I dont care if it does. It's the least I can sacrifice to pay my respects to those that lost their lives and their families. So much was lost that day. So, so much.

Although this happened in 2001, I feel like the pre-attack footage at the beginning forms the very last few minutes of the 90's. Up until the first plane hit, people in the western world felt safe, at their peak and almost untouchable. That's what changed on 9/11. I remember I heard someone say: "Today we entered the 21st century through a ring of fire."
I was sixteen, in school, came home to this news and saw the second plane hit in a live coverage on TV. Back then, I couldn't imagine that 20+ years later we'd still be here as a civilisation. Although I'm from the Netherlands, I was in shock for weeks. This film brings back that eerie feeling.
Rest in peace to those who lost their lives that day.

It's a horrible choice they had to make. Die slowly from smoke and fire, or jump to a quick end. Just awful!

I jus hope that authorities nowdays have BETTER ways to save people in similar situations . . . and in less time without hesitating.
In this video , clearly can see how the nyfd chief didn't have a clue.

@@rachelmartin3631 I find this to be mostly specious. While a few may have certainly "made a choice", most of those people were in extremis - the organism fleeing lack of air and extreme heat. Place your hand in fire and try to leave it there. You cannot, no matter how much you "choose" to - you are literally without any choice in the matter - no matter what your brain is thinking, your hand is coming out of that fire. Same for lack of air - your organism, your body, will literally take over. There simply wasn't any thought process involved for most of those people - the organism itself will flee killing heat and inability to breathe - no matter where it ends up.

This video is so well put together, it really gives you probably the best picture of how it was like to be there that day.
