Because he's too funny for a mainstream audience. Jay Leno cuts it right down the middle. He's FM radio. Conan, of all people, was too esoteric for an 11:30 audience. So yeah, the Doms and Norm MacDonalds of the world have their ceiling - being a comic's comic.
I suppose you are right on target...I just hope Dom has been able to make a decent living, doing something he loves...that's about all anyone can ask....
I love the opening bit where Don Ferrro talks about how mad he is about people getting his name wrong, you can tell he's actually frustrated and that it's not just a bit. I get it, Darth Farrera is the kind of name people would have a hard time. I mean, imagine being named Don and Mary
"Cut my head into a big 'v' and give me a little of that Friar Tuck look" was a lot funnier when I was a kid. Don't know why, but for some strange reason it just hurts now. (I once worked with an old guy who asked, "You ever notice that every time you go to the barber, it takes him less time to finish?")

He used to do shows at this little comedy theater in my hometown every summer (Wildwood NJ). Was always one of the highlights of the season. He also used to eat at the pizza shop I delivered for (Carinis Pizza) Awesome funny dude
