I am getting a lot of comments about the R colors. Just like I said in the video all cameras are set to manual white balance K6500 and processed with Canon Digital Professional. Two card slots aren't necessary, but they can be handy. One time I was shooting a fashion show and they also wanted it shot in JPG and wanted the photos between the sets. Two slots allowed me to shoot JPG to one card and RAW to the other. Then I could hand off the JPG card between sets and drop in a newly formatted card for next set (while keeping the RAWs all on a larger card that stayed in the camera). After the show, I had RAWs, which allowed me to fully edit the shots for my own portfolio.
Im blown away canon rp on second place…got RP 2 weeks ago… and im really happy with it..coming from Nikon D7500…really love the mirror less and full frame
Kkkk
I have to admit this review was better than I expected. So many just talk (literally talk and not much else) about specs. It was nice to see some normal real world use. I've been leaning toward the R6 as an upgrade, but am concerned about the heating issues being mentioned all over the internet. Did you experience any issues with overheating?
I have the EOS R, after your video I looked at my photos both RAW and Edited and I didn’t find them as green as your camera. Possible that you may have a damaged sample of the EOS R
I don’t, I have actually used two different bodies over the time and they both have this colour. You probably just don’t notice the difference. You really see it in the comparison
I'm probably watching this video late, but I'm an RP owner myself and I'm really excited about this camera! this is just an amazing device and I am even more convinced of it, thank you for the video, for your work!
I will switch to R6 at the end of the year and some rf lenses to go with. The R5 is amazing but the price difference is too high for what the R6 already offers and even I would like to have a bit more options to crop images as I photograph wildlife and zoo animals often I don't really need images that big for it and they just need to much space on my cards and so on anyway.
@@robertmueller6979 the 100-500 is definitely on my list to get with the R6. That's sounds amazing. As I breed exotic moth species this is good to hear about.

Great review Irene. Respect to the real world comparison. It's basically what matters most to anyone trying to decide which camera to buy rather than specs only comparisons which most people do. A little more comparisons with one or two different lenses would be appreciated. Cheers again for the wonderful review. 🥂
Shot my first wedding with the R6II yesterday...I am in love. it made the whole day so much smoother compared with 5DIII and R. It's worth the investment and didn't miss the top LCD anywhere near as much as I thought I would.
I actually mixed up the RP and R5 photo guesses at 3:15... I use an R5 at my day job (marketing/multimedia production) and it is awesome. I used to have the R because it was the only thing decent out at the time from canon and the RF lenses looked juicy. 3 years later, I convinced my boss to upgrade for the uncropped 4k, 4k 120fps, in-body stabilization, and 8k. The 45mp is awesome but the file sizes are 55mb for uncompressed RAW. Eeeek! If you can afford it, definitely get the R5 as it will last quite a while with the specs it has.
Awesome comparison, I think the RP punches WELL above its weight, I use it as my main camera with the R as a backup usually, (yes I would like the R6 a LOT! ) I would be interested to add the M6.ii into this mix, personally I think that its on a par with these cameras although obviously a different form factor,
I'm so glad I watched this. I've been debating which camera to upgrade to and I do a lot of outdoor photography in green areas. The rp seems to be the best option for me right now. Next upgrade will be the r5

Great comparison video Irene! I’m looking to investing in a mirrorless full frame camera - and for the price and quality- The Canon RP looks like my decision. Thank you for making great content!
Great comparison video. The EOS-R has been my main camera for over a year now and I have not experienced the greenish tint issue. I just got an RP as a backup. I hope the R6 goes on sale around Christmas 😆
Great overview! I am thinking some of the color differences might simply be slightly different auto-white balance or even that the light changed slightly between shots and the auto-white balance simply did a different interpretation of the white point. Or did you shoot everything at at the same white balance? Anyway, I just ordered a Canon RP to get a taste of the Canon RF system - I love the ergonomics compared to Sony.
I did a comparison using another reviewer raw files and I could reproduce the green cast when using fixed white balance. When using the camera auto the R5 was actually greener than the R. It was pretty easy to match them by tweaking a little bit the white balance : imgur.com/a/Nr3YfIa
I second that. Personally I feel like the R6 does everything the R5 does unless the user a) produces lots of large prints or b) needs 8k video. But the R6 is literally half the price where I'm from (this is used prices for both).
to me it's one of the best real life comparaison of image quality for those cameras. thank you! I have the RP and the 70D. the ISO is the main difference, you can push the RP to 12800 iso and it's still better than the 70D at 1600 iso
what do you mean properly calibrated? its set with the same setting as all other cameras. I have always noticed it being more green for some reason. i even mentioned it in my R5 R6 release video.
@@IreneRudnyk you can calibrate the colors in the settings under wb color shift. You can also reset it there. Sometimes it can get accidentally changed.
Ancient, long-retired pro from the film days here, turned amatuer. This is interesting! I have both, the R and R5, and I'm guessing others do as well. I had intended on doing a test similar to yours (fixed kelvin), not to compare cameras, but to look at color variation between my vintage and modern lenses (Leica R, Zeiss Contax, old Nikon workhorse from my working days, and modern Canon including the 85mm RF). Adding a comparison between the bodies now makes sense to see if the results are the same. Anyone questioning the results you encountered can also do the same (and should, before questioning them IMHO). I'm going to try your test with my two cameras, using the same settings and Canon software (then compare the raw files in Capture One). Many of us are familiar with sample variation in lenses (to be expected) but with bodies? I've not contemplated the possibility before (and have not seen others, either), but that would, indeed, be something interesting to find out. And then, this becomes another item for comparing brands as the variation within the Canon line is eye-opening. Of particular interest, many of us probably remember when fixed lighting (both, LED and fluorescent designed for photography) was relatively new, and threw a horrible green cast. Technology has gotten better these days, mitigating the green unpleasantness. But if the results you found bear out, this is particularly interesting for those who use LED or even now-outdated fluorescent photography bulbs (5600K). I.e., if the camera is contributing to a green cast, it can add effort to post, and then, completely eliminating a green cast may come at the expense of other colors leaving less than optimal results (speculating this point). In any event, thank you for this very interesting, excellent, and eye-opening comparison. I've been watching your vids from time to time for many years. You have a great touch and produce astounding results... consistently.
@@IreneRudnyk Had a "duh" moment last night thinking about this. Your observations are correct, but there's an explanation--and it's not a problem with the EOS R. Since I'm not a content producer, setting up the experiment to show what happened will take some time--I'll explain now, then when I do get to it (testing lenses anyway) I'll share a link. Back in the film days we could get unwanted color casts from light reflection off nearby objects. In particular, very green settings (green grass, shubs, trees, etc.) would through a color cast onto the color negative film--a cast that had to be corrected during printing. I remembered this after recalling some green screen work with my daughter. Though I had a strong K5600 light on her as the subject, the amount of green spill reflecting forward off the green screen was problematic. I tried to move her as far forward as possible, but it remained a challenge nonetheless. So why does the R5 look better? Well, this makes me smile. The early complaints about the R5 mentioned that it was too magenta (relatively speaking). If a picture is too green, how to color correct? Add magenta. And, walaa... Did those clever color science engineers at Canon decide to alter (perhaps ever-so-slightly) the color science so that pics taken in green environments look better? Taking outdoor pics in a garden environment is rather popular. I guess this is the conspiracy theory in me making such a silly guess. But what holds, is that your natural environment is quite green (beautiful for pics, but green, nonetheless). Thus, the "bad" magenta shift in the R5 actually serves to counterbalance a greenish tint emanating from the foliage. This is not a problem with the EOS R, but perhaps a clever tweak with the R5 (me guessing). The best way to avoid color shifts with electronic sensors is to white balance with an 18% grey card--but the white balance must adjusted at the subject location. I.e., taking the WB closer to the ground will cause a stronger green shift and camera compensation, and closer to open sky (relative to the subject) will cause a bluer shift (and camera compensation). Thus, the most accurate color balance should be set at face-level with the subject. And then, if lighting changes (clouds shifting, time of day, or moving the subject) a new white balance adjustment will be required. Or save the fuss and fix it in post using RAW files. Anyway, this was a good brain teaser, and I'm pretty sure a controlled test could be set up to confirm the results. When I eventually do such a test, I'll use a gray card so that actual levels could be observed with vectorscopes in post. Keep up the outstanding work, and thanks again for doing this comparison.
IRENE!!!!!! what a great video. thank you. I got the R5 and coming from a Sony and Nikon, i was lost. The camera takes amazing pictures and videos!!!! Still learning the buttons and programs!!!!! thank you.,
This is no secret that some photographers crave the vintage styling of cameras and also the film-look in images. We do get the film-look in the images produced by Canon 5D Classic. However, the retro-styling is something unavailable to current Canon camera users. Nikon enchanted its users with Nikon Df few years ago and now, Nikon Z fc. I’m simply awestruck how beautiful those cameras look! How about Canon thinking in the same line and present us with few such styles like the great Canon AE-1!
@@MayankNimbalkar I use the R for video and landscapes. Just shoot raw and use gray card or a color calibration card and you can correct/grade the colors to your liking
Couple of other tips here: If you shoot jpg and just want to use auto white balance you can go in in the cameras menu and tweak the colors toward blue and red, don’t overdo it and do some testing. It’s under the camera icon menu and fourth tab called WB Correction. Now you will have a cooler tone or maybe more neutral tone applied to every shot or video. And if you shoot in raw it’s easy piece to correct in post with a cooler tone in white balance tool and maybe at a bit of magenta in white balance tool as well. Hope it helps.

Apparently that specific camera you’re using has some type of sensor issues. When it comes to the R line, when you’re using the same lens in all of them, Canon has made sure that almost 98% of the photos taken with look very similar in terms of quality of course..,and that one you’re using is more on the green side that any other ones I have use or seen. Beautiful work by the way. Kudos to you Irene..😉

R6! Price quality and features.
The EOS R6 and EOS RP are my favorite in all side by side comparisons, higher resolution doesn't always = better picture quality.
exactly
I agree, I somehow feel the R5 was rated higher than it should due to the price over here
I have the R5 and the R. Both work well for my needs (wildlife/birds) I haven't really noticed the colour issue with my R but it was a later model. I like the R for it's 30 meg images, which
is always helpful for cropping in. The R5 is superb and the R is great as a second body. Thanks for all your great videos Irene, I love that you focus more on getting the image you want than all
the tech aspects of gear, and your results are beautiful.
I've owned and shot commercially with R, RP and 5D4. Results in this video do not correlate at all for me shooting thousands of images. For me EOS R first for overall photos and video, 5D4 second and RP third. Not sure where the green tint in the R is coming from here, I've never experienced it. I'm looking forward to trying the R6. Thanks for your video.
I believe in your experience more than the video.
Same! I shoot with R, I don’t get green as what Erin posted in her video.
Because she set the temperature manually, which makes no sense at all.
Agreed, I absolutely love the EOSR and in this video it makes the EOSR looks trash
@@Sayject It is most likely the "Portrait" mode Picture Style she was using. Easily corrected but why not just change the EOS R 's picture style to Faithful or Autumn Hue or even back to Standard.
Thanks Irene, I have just purchased an RP (purely as it was the least expensive of the four) and it is great to see your comparison. Thanks for taking the time to do this.
Wow. The RP looks solid.
RP ‘s images are great according to its price🔥🔥🔥
да за 1100 долл - отличная цена
This is fantastic! Thank you for the comparison!
I get my R6 last week AF is insane compered to my old 5Dmkiii.
I know right! The autofocus on the R6 and R5 is insane
Made the same upgrade. Same experience. Superb AF on the R6!
Same upgrade for me. It’s such an improvement.
May I ask a quick question , Does the auto focus on R6 work with a fixed lens while shooting a video?
@@pinteep You mean prime lens? Of course as long as lens have auto focus motor.
I just bought the RP a few weeks ago and I love it! So far I only have the 50mm with it, but soon I'll expand to the 35mm and 85mm too. I also have a Blackmagic Pocket 4K for video so that side of the RP didn't really bothered me. This video makes me happy and feel like I made the perfect choice thank you :)
The bokeh of that 85mm f1.2 is just outstanding, maybe the most beautiful bokeh of the market. amazing photos as always Irene.
For real! It’s magical
Thank you for sharing this card tip, that is super practical!
I liked R6 the most and am surprised you ranked it third
Thank you very much for the review. Thinking about buying a RP and now it's confirmed.
As a R5 user it breaks my heart to admit that R6 is a winner here. Best result and cheaper. No brainer.
Don't let it break your heart. That r5 is a beast.
I was gonna say, I think I’m liking the R6 more than any of them
Wow, this is good news for my 2 years old EOS RP!
The R6 is the winner here. Not because I’m biased or anything lol
The r6 just looks better - I am trying to pick and every sample raw photo I see I prefer the R6 - I wonder why
This really helped me a lot. Thank you, Irene! More power to you and your channel.
Excellent presentation, really well conceived and planned. Clearly explained judgements. Thank you, Irene
@@IreneRudnyk I’ll take your word for it but please don’t tell my clients 🥺
It’s still fine, it’s not horrible or anything just not as good as the other ones.
I also notice it in my R. At least in lightroom. I always need to add +5 magenta to fix it
@@andrewmedina1943 I definitely found a lot green tint on R photos myself. Had to color correct it.
I have the R6. It resolves the individual lenses on the eye of a dragonfly with the 100-500mm. Nice camera.
@@robertmueller6979 the 100-500 is definitely on my list to get with the R6. That's sounds amazing. As I breed exotic moth species this is good to hear about.
@@franninchen .. If you buy the EF adapter ring just get the plain $100 one. The R6 has 3 dials on it to control aperture, shutter and ISO. No need for another ring. I bought the adapter with control ring for $200 and never use the ring. I'd also get the EF-S 55-250mm STM for video and moths. Much easier to hold, super sharp for insect photography and you can shoot right at your feet. The 100-500mm can shoot pretty close but not that close.. The R6 can use both EF and EF-S lenses and automatically adjusts the crop.... )
@@robertmueller6979 at the moment I use the 90d with the 55-250mm STM for my insect and zoo photos. So far I only rented L lenses and the 5D Mark IV for special occasions but after 8 years and photography still my main hobby it is time for the investment and upgrade. I still like my APSC kit for times when I want to travel light weight. The extra ring on the adapter is also something I don't need. I like to use the display or control buttons more anyway.
@@franninchen ... Yea. I had to make a decision myself. "is this my hobby?". My wife made me ask myself that question. Then she said "Good. I just bought the R6 and 100-500mm". I about died when I saw the lens price. Made me physically ill. "What possessed you?" I asked. "I got tired of you constantly talking about the R6. Shut up and shoot." ..I said "You forgot the ring"... lol... I really need to start checking our bank account... )
Thank you so much. I was very confused with other reviews but this one was brilliant
I want a RP! That was the one i liked the photos the most!
It's solid in size and weight, too! Very comfortable to travel with it and just keep it in your backpack if you get a small lens like the RF 50mm f/1.8.
@@KentSpain85 I'm searching for one to buy. It will be my first full frame camera =D
@B Price Nice! Thanks for the info!
@@KentSpain85 I would just like to say if you have bigger hands it might be better to go for the R the rp is tiny
WOW Honestly, I will go with the RP pictures any time any day. I love the color rendition coming out from that little thing and surprisingly that is the cheapest of them all. But, must ppl will love the mega pixels/Build quality of the R5 camera. Great work by the way, blessings!
As an RP owner, this video makes me happy haha.
But the model is naturally aging between the shots, so is it really an accurate comparison 😉
Awesome comparison, I think the RP punches WELL above its weight, I use it as my main camera with the R as a backup usually, (yes I would like the R6 a LOT! ) I would be interested to add the M6.ii into this mix, personally I think that its on a par with these cameras although obviously a different form factor,
Thank you for the review! It helped me make the choice of getting the RP. I have an SL2 and wanted an upgrade - thank you!
Nice comparison! That must have taken a ton of time juggling the four cameras.
I'm so glad I watched this. I've been debating which camera to upgrade to and I do a lot of outdoor photography in green areas. The rp seems to be the best option for me right now. Next upgrade will be the r5
Best and smartest comparison video I have seen. Many thanks !
Got the R6 a few months ago and I'm really happy with it! Can't beat that wildlife AF 🙌
Irene, thank you so much for doing this video. Lovely photos and very informative. Your video finally convinced me to buy an RP which I love. So, thank you again.
Thank you for wonderful review, Irene!
the RP turns out to be a great Cost Benefit.
I just got my RP and is more happy now thanks to you
Good job!
Great presentation of the comparisons
Had my r6 for a couple of years and love it.For me the eye af was a game changer.Have been tempted with the r5 but will wait a while for a camera upgrade.Love your work and your editing is beautiful. Also the rf 85 1.2 is my favourite lens.
Found myself preferring the R6 in most photographs!
Thank you! That was a great vid for looking how they perform!
Great comparison video Irene! I’m looking to investing in a mirrorless full frame camera - and for the price and quality- The Canon RP looks like my decision. Thank you for making great content!
Working with the RP and loving it.
WELL DONE on reviews of cameras. Showed samples all together as should be. Easily seen in comparison. THANK YOU.
Thank you! It was very helpful. And your photos are awesome. :)
Always loves your feedback .... its been 2 years with my eos r n results r awesome....looking forward for R5
Great comparison video. The EOS-R has been my main camera for over a year now and I have not experienced the greenish tint issue. I just got an RP as a backup. I hope the R6 goes on sale around Christmas 😆
You won’t notice it until you compare
Awesome review! Thanks.
I personally liked the skin tones on the RP and R6 the best :)
I have the RP and R5 - love them both!
The R6 makes the most sense of all the cameras based on cost and performance.
I second that. Personally I feel like the R6 does everything the R5 does unless the user a) produces lots of large prints or b) needs 8k video. But the R6 is literally half the price where I'm from (this is used prices for both).
Best real-world comparisons on RUclips!
Wonderful comparison. Thank you!
Just purchased the RP after watching your video and I can't wait to try it,I wish I could afford the canon 85mm 1.2 lens.
Great review and comparison!
to me it's one of the best real life comparaison of image quality for those cameras. thank you! I have the RP and the 70D. the ISO is the main difference, you can push the RP to 12800 iso and it's still better than the 70D at 1600 iso
Thanks you. I'am going to do that change
Very useful information. Good job!
Are you sure that the r is properly calibrated? The green shift seems odd.
what do you mean properly calibrated? its set with the same setting as all other cameras. I have always noticed it being more green for some reason. i even mentioned it in my R5 R6 release video.
@@IreneRudnyk you can calibrate the colors in the settings under wb color shift. You can also reset it there. Sometimes it can get accidentally changed.
no nothing is changed there. I always do custom kalvins for all my shoots. Here all cameras were set to K 6500
@@IreneRudnyk I’m not talking about the WB settings. I’m talking about the WB shift in the menus. You can adjust the rgb separately there.
@@Urbanmediashowcase And if the WB shift is still at 0 on the EOS R, then it is easily corrected by shifting it a little bit to magenta.
You have a great touch and produce astounding results... consistently.
thank you!
I have the Eos Rp and i was glad to see it came in 2nd place on this video.
Probably the best review of these bodies on youtube!
Great video. Thanks so much
I was going to upgrade to the R from my Rp, but I don't think I'll bother now. Thank you for showing my little RP stands up against the rest 👍

I have Canon Eos R, heartbroken 💔 after seeing this. But I still love ❤️ it.
don't be! just because it got the 4th place doesn't mean that it is a bad camera at all
@@IreneRudnyk Yes 🙌 Thank you 😊
@@MayankNimbalkar I use the R for video and landscapes. Just shoot raw and use gray card or a color calibration card and you can correct/grade the colors to your liking
Couple of other tips here:
If you shoot jpg and just want to use auto white balance you can go in in the cameras menu and tweak the colors toward blue and red, don’t overdo it and do some testing.

Personally I believe that your Eos R has some kind of defect when it comes to color saturation…
I have never had that issue with mine neither my friend and coworker which both of us shoot with the eos R.
Have you ever compared it to anything else, because if not you are just noticing it. My camera doesn’t have any defects
Daniel, Adobe LR ruins camera colors accidentally many times, but the older ones I think they are ruined on purpose. Try capture one, my 15 year old 5D performs as the new ones in terms of color accuracy
Those were my thoughts too, the colors of her R are so different then the colors on my R, i've also used the RP, and the colors looks almost identical...
Exactly. My pictures never look so yellow or green. More neutral
1:19 When you played like that with the 85 1.2 Rf my heart actually skipped a beat 😅
I do the same thing with my 85. She was flipping it around so she could see the red line to attach it to the camera. Funny to see I'm not the only one who does it that way!
@@waynedennyphoto Yea, me too, but with cheaper lenses 😅😅
You are a life-saver! I'm going mirrorless soon and I was wondering which one I should get
I went with the R6 because it has a small megapixel count which is better for lowlight. I’m a wedding photographer so this is very important to me. Additionally the CF cards for the R5 are ridiculously expensive.
can you please explain to me how smaller megapixel count helps with lowlight?
