Considering that half these comments are filled with delusional Alex Jones fans who think he's "waking America up", thinking that this case is staged, and thinking that Sandy Hook was a hoax, you should have some kind of indication why he's been found liable for defamation.
The families have suffered long-term harassment due to him lying about the reality of Sandy Hook. It's emotional damages, that can be proved, have been proved, and the jury gets to decide the value of compensation. It's why defamation cases exist.
Just like Amber Heard was found liable for her lies about JD, Alex Jones is liable for his lies about the parents and children at Sandy Hook.
It's emotional, it's not as simple as that
People have literally had to move because of the harrassment. Also Alex could have tried to make that case had he complied with discovery. He refused to comply and thats why he was defaulted after several years of non-compliance.

I don't get it. Who is the victim here? So what if somebody says the event never happened? The world is full of crazy people, but who is harmed? Nobody that I can see. Some people claim that the earth is flat. So what? Well maybe we are all victims from that claim, but who is going to sue for money on that one?

The defendant attorney kept yelling object and was ignored, the plaintiffs attorney was out of control and Alex Jones is so desperate and unable to control trying to defend himself. He has a gag on and needs to trust his attorney. He’s gotta realize the plaintiffs attorney is pulling at his strings to strike a cord and he bit the string. He’s gotta chill and accept that Connecticut has a cap and he’s already liable. Relax your shoulders and respect the process.
