Superb results with that combination, Derek. The stabilisation is amazing, and combined with the great skill of the operator, the set-up is surely almost unbeatable.
The stabilisation of the OM-5 and 12-100 Pro Lens is certainly amazing and still surprises me today. Next week Freshwater Bay, which I think you will know.
Just got here from your 12-200mm video, which was also outstanding! Now I'm confused as to which would be the better travel lens... I already own the 12-40mm F2.8 PRO (love it), and am now trying to decide on a travel lens... I originally debated between the 12-200 and Panasonic 14-140mm, but now with this video I'm considering ditching the 12-40mm and just getting one lens to do it all! Arrgh. :) Thanks for the great videos and story-telling.
Don't forget that the 12-100 is constant aperture but larger and heavier than the 12-200 which is variable aperture. Depends on how critical your shoots are. You will lose light at the telephoto end of the 12-200 but not the 12-100, but that does not have the extended zoom range as the 12-200. I still use the 12-100 as my workhorse optic but have the 12-45 as backup when I am feeling lazy!
I don't think that a reasonably fit person, which I judge is the case here, would have a problem in taking the 12-100 Pro Lens on a long walk but I found it was weighted towards the lens with the OM-5. Previously, I had used the 12-100 on my E-M1 (now superseded by the OM-1) and there was no unbalanced weight issue other than it being overall much heavier. Approaching 80 but still an active walker I now prefer the 12-45 Pro Lens with the OM-5. It is made for it and of course, overall much lighter but the zoom ratio is less and doesn't have its own image stabiliser.
The Olympus 12-40 f 2.8 and the 12-100 are my favorites for use on the Olympus OMD 1MKIII and MKII also the EM5 MKIII I Also have a Panasonic G9 and G95 along with some Panasonic and Olympus prime and zoom lenses love them all.
If you want to use the 12-100 with the OM-5 for any length of time, I strongly recommend adding the ECG-5 grip. I use the 12-100 on my E-M5 Mk III with the grip and it's nicely balanced. Without it, the camera definitely feels front heavy.
The recent upgrades of Lightroom have a greatly improved facility for removing noise. There are other products on the market that have their following, but Lightroom does what I require. By the way, your pseudonym. For me, it reminds me of the opera by Richard Wagner, currently on at the Royal Opera House in London, which I have seen, or that you are communicating from the Netherlands?
@@DerekForss hi Derek I have lived in the Netherlands all my life (almost 62 years), you got that right. I think your photos are very beautiful. I am looking into a lighter camera system. my canon full frame. system is too heavy for me to go on long hikes. I notice that the great weight of my canon is an obstacle to taking it with me on walks. so I'm looking for a lighter camera system. I am very happy with the image quality of the Canon, there is nothing wrong with that, on the contrary.
Many photographers move from FF to MFT because of size and weight and I don't think that you will be disappointed with the quality. I hope that you will continue to enjoy watching my programmes. Another one next Friday.
Thank you Derek for this video. I''m one of those who've been awaiting your impressions of this lens-camera combination. Having used the E M1 II (or is it the III ?) with that lens, how would you compare the OM-5 / 12-100 combination ergonomically? Also, I believe that in combination with the OM-5 the stabilization is even greater (7.5 stops) than with the E M1, were you able to confirm that this is the case?
Although the 12-100 Pro Lens works perfectly well with the OM-5 I think its weight and size is better suited to an E-M1 or OM-1. You may be right about the extra stabilisation when used with the OM-5 but was not something I was aware of other than it worked with most of the tasks I set.

Succeeded in getting a free coffee from my regular haunt on Leap Day!

Thank you and yes, it is certainly a great lens!
Wonderful pictures!!

Thank you for your Thanks. I will put the finance towards my Northern Ireland project.
Great Video and a Great Lens

Thank you for this video! Do you think this would be too heavy a lens for long hikes (8-12 hours) paired with the om5?

Thank you for sharing this adventure. The photos and commentary are superb.Do you think the om-5 and the 12-100 lens are a great match?
They certainly work together but the excellent kit lens, the 12-45 Pro is a better match ergonomically.

I think that 7.5 stop number is when used on an OM-1.
@@Centauri27, no, per OM System's specs for the OM-5 it says "Up to 7.5 EV steps Sync IS"
Has the base plate not fallen off yet
I think the answer is no. Not sure what you mean by the base plate. Anyway, nothing missing!
