It's not the fact that if Amy wanted a haircut she'd go out and get one, it's the fact that she had no choice. Amy slept with her math teacher, it turns out that Isabelle slept with an older man at Amy's age and became pregnant with Amy. Isabelle realizing that Amy might go the same fate feels she needs to punish her daughter but also removing her vanity. There is also a bit of jealousy there aswell seeing as Amy fount sexual satisfaction. So got the scissors and chopped it all off.

@@ambermedellin6832 Why should she? She was groomed and taken advantage of and her Mother experienced the exact same thing so shouldn't she have understood even if the situation was slightly different and should have had more compassion.

This was such a good movie & a good book. Sad, but good. I had a relationship with my teacher too, though he was smart enough to wait to approach me until after school was ending.

To me, the mother was being a bitch to cut her daughter's hair when she was being an underaged victim to the teacher. A mother should never cut their child's hair. She should go to jail for assault.
What's next? That mom making her daughter skip school?
The fact that isabelle had to punishment her daughter with a haircut to me is despicable and that mother disgusts me! The mother should have grounded the daughter not cut her hair off! If that happened to me I would NOT be happy!
