      you are supposed to square -3 so he probably just put it on -6 since you had to divide -6/2.

    this video is great and all, but I don't get why we have to divide the "b" value by two and square it. what's the logic behind it? it's so confusing to me...

    • @gotutormaths
      @gotutormaths  7 месяцев назад +5

      When we are converting a quadratic equation from standard to vertex form using completing the square, we are essentially aiming to rewrite the variable terms as a perfect square trinomial. Dividing the 'b' value by two and squaring it is a key step in this process. By adding the result obtained to the variable terms, it completes the square (creating a perfect square trinomial), which can then be easily factored as a binomial square. Please let me know if you need further clarification.

    Why u multiply 5 and -4

  • @oida10000
    @oida10000 4 месяца назад

    Ok
    Going here:
    x^2-6x+13=(x-3)^2+4 so a=1, h=3, k=4,
    5x^2+20x-1=5*(a+2)^2-21 so a=5, h=-2 and k=-21.
    -x^2-3x+8=-(x+3/2)^2+41/4 so a=-1, h=-3/2 and k=41/4.
