Teacher, I think using the completed square formula for teenage students is preferable at the outset. So if y = ax^2 + bx + c, then applying the completed square formula you initially have (x + (bx/2))^2 - (bx/2)^2. This gives ((x-2)^2 - 2^2)-10. Then you get (x-2)^2 -14. We already know a = 1 (because x^2 has no coefficient), so h = +2 and k = -14

it is because you used the equation completing the square, and the answer will go straight inside the parenthesis and also to the side of the non-leading constant which is -10 and the 4 beside -10 should be the opposite sign
it's the same lol. (½b)² just means you'll multiply b with ½ which gets you half the value of b. b/2 also gets half the value of b. And both of them are eventually squared which gets you to the same answer. You can try those two solutions with the same value for b and you'll get the same answer
