If there's one thing I don't like about WRX's looks are the halogen headlights. You gotta almost pay 35k for the limited version with LED drl and headlights. Otherwise, it's super fun
...for those wondering, it is a WRX Premium with Performance package (i.e. sunroof delete and Recaro seats) despite the title not saying as such... the car looked a little outgunned in that pack, assuming the Golf ahead was a Golf R; but since it was a lead/follow group, but I guess it didn't really matter. What paint would you spec your WRX in? - World Rally Blue, Lapis blue, Pure Red, or other?
This video's goal is not to compare wrx with civic si/r. He is not allowed to overtake and he clearly is breaking ahead to keep distance with front car. Not a good comparison just nice old fun driving in the track.
KEN CHU driving feel is what the miata is all about man, hands down the miata. Drove both of these cars and the miata is in a class of its own in steering feel and turn in as well as fun factor! Test drive them yourself!!!
@@IReahpZz Not sure this is correct. Ive driven both, while the MX5 is quicker through a corner, the WRX more than kills the MX5 on exit acceleration, and straight line. Id say most of the time the WRX will be quicker point to point.
@@alexanderbeer1469 you won't best a miata around track in a wrx. And 0-60 with slip in the miata 2019+ is actually 5.4-5.5 which is right in line with the wrx. Your exiting harder but the miata is carrying more speed through corners.
Outdoor Layne Thanks, but most of the reviews seem to prefer the Miata? I think according to a Fast Lane Hot or Not test with a pro driver that the GTI is actually faster than the Miata and Toyota 86..not sure about the Wrx?
Outdoor Layne I see what you are saying..subjectivity vs actual speed tests. Have you had the chance to drive the wrx,GTI, Toyota 86, st to see which is more fun to you? As far as speed and fun it is interesting (fun) to throw the Mustang and Camaro..even the v6 Camaro in the mix..what do you drive or what do you want by the way?
Outdoor Layne So you would still pick the Toyota 86 even though it is not as fast around the track as the WRX? At one time I lived in a snowy cold place, so I know what you are talking about. I live in Houston now. Trying to find a fun car.
Outdoor Layne The issue I have is I live in Houston. Lots of straight flat roads. No fun curvy roads close for the most part. Wonder if I should just get a V8 for stoplight to stoplight drag racing (acceleration..within the law of course) or short fast spurts on the freeway? No close tracks as far as I know. Again looking for fun car or truck to drive..thought about motorcycles but kind of dangerous.
dry509 You could buy an Evo ix for $20k and have fun with it both on straights and turns. Few mods it makes 400whp safely with e85 or 350whp on 93 with a stock turbo. It's like driving a v8 with slicks traction wise and it has short gearing for crazy push you back in the seat acceleration. I currently own a 2013 corvette Grand Sport that I left stock. While its fun, I enjoyed the Evo more since it had much more traction off the line with awd and more fun acceleration wise with it's short gearing. I also owned a 520whp 97 cobra and a 600whp 2012 Mustang GT. 2002 363whp Focus SVT. Rwd V8 is fun also. I had to run slicks to put the power down in those mustangs while the Evo had no problems with traction and was raw and more fun driving around.
I own an sti, and have driven a wrx for around 30 hours total and I can tell you with 100% confidence that the sti is worth the money. The steering feel, power and overall experience is so much better in the sti. They are not the same car and the sti is just simply the better experience. No matter how much work you put into a wrx it will never be the same, spend the money and enjoy your car. Buy the sti.
i own a paid off 18 wrx. daily driving a sti in dallas, hell no. i had a chance on a sti but i didnt want the crappy gas mileage and i didnt want to have to worry about my engine failing. if you want to argue about the rumble keep it. id put equal length headers on it anyhow. i paid 26k for my car and had it paid off with 6k on it. will it be a sti? no. i agree its different. the base sti is 36k and for 10k i can put together a car i would still very much appreciate with capability that would be on par with a base sti easily.
@@jameskocks4734 Yeah I have to agree if you spend 10k in the right places the WRX will be the better car vs. the STi. *but you will void the warranty.
@@njoythedrive really they're almost two different cars with two different purposes from the factory. You throw enough money into anything and it can become more, but at what point does it lose its identity and what is the cars purpose. Ive seen a 16 wrx properly modified keeping up with newer m4s on Laguna Secca.
@@jameskocks4734 I'll be honest, If I can just get 300hp out my WRX I'd do it. The STi has improvements in areas that I really don't need as much. The WRX would be perfect it was just a bit higher. The hp gain I want doesn't warrant the increase of the STis Price imo
Greg Chang the WRX has 3 difs but what your saying is there are no limited slip difs in the WRX? All 3 are open difs? That sucks. Only the STI has limited slip difs? Or is there an option on the WRX to have them?
Thanks for this video - someone who doesn't blast their stereo and talk incessantly is a welcome change. To me - the seats are a turn off. I'd rather a more conservative looking interior, than a boy-racer look. Yet, maybe that's part of the model you're driving.
Sonic_1000 I just know that in a Canadian car tv show they did an intense 10 laps with the STI and the brakes caught on fire, the dude had to stop the car with the handbrake.
TurgBurglar that's the whole point of a manual though, to operate the transmission yourself and not have a computer do it... there are features like hill hold and auto rev match but they're really not necessary once you get accustomed to driving stick.
“pretty amazing performers on track” *starts sliding
Guccay i choked when that happened😂😂😂
It's wet but yeah lol
I recognized the plate number, this is the exact WRX that savagegeese drove in his WRX review
Hope it’s getting regular oil changes. These guys best the shit out of them 😂
Looks like the Civic is killing it.
If u mean the type R infront, I’d hope so
I love my 17, probably the most well balanced car vs value for money. Total solid-feeling blast as a daily with plenty of practical application.
I just bought that same car with recaro. Love it so far!
Same brother

1:38, what happened??
It was an over-understeer followed by a shaky throttle response ending with a redline proxy.

Great work man!
‘Topher’ between MX-5 & WRX, just considering the driving feel, which one is better?

Nice review. Im thinking about trading my 2018 honda accord sport 1.5 into a 2020 WRX Premium. Would you say the WRX is worth it and reliable?
Just change the oil regularly and it wont eat itself!
Yes absolutely - the FA20 WRX is very reliable, even with more power and track work.
#TheTopher a little brown mark with that slip ??
Is this the autobahn race track in Joliet illinois?
M Adams Yes
If they build the hatchback again...I will be first in line to buy one.
Feels way different from STI on the track, Sir. :)
Would this be a good used car as a first car?

Yes
is it faster the the new civicsi
Yup by far
The new Si with a reflash will dust a WRX all day
Sugartits 69 then you tune the wrx and back to square 1 lmao
ur smokin crack
I also work in the Car Sabaru WRX, but as a slide show xD
So the Civic R puts down power better in the wet than a WRX?? WTF 😲
Jeff Eppenger well it’s not an sti...
Yes but still AWD vs FWD the AWD should put down the power better (Thats just facts im actually more into FWD over AWD or RWD)
The Rusty Scooter the type r must have better tires than the WRX because AWD should prevail in the wet over FWD at these speeds.
Wrx lacks front and rear differentials

Real life grandtourismo

Yeah the Unions. We should have the workers take a big pay cut for your benefit.
Wish it had auto rev match
TurgBurglar Learn to do it yourself, it's like driving an automatic to me

I wish the new type r wasn’t so fuckin ugly
W R X not W ER X!
Too slow need to put the pedal to da metal. Way too slow.
Blame unions and business costs in Japan there is no money to improve the wrx .
You're making things up.
Then who causes inflation left idiot ?
Yea he making shit up lmao
