The cartel goons were dead the moment they followed Rambo into the tunnels. The tunnels were his territory. In vietnam, he was a tunnel rat, crawling across tunnels a fraction of this one's width. Rambo never felt more at ease in the tunnels - while the cartel goons were completely out of their depth.
They had no idea they were dealing with a man who is the best with guns, with knives, with his bare hands. A man who's been taught to ignore pain, ignore weather, to live off the land, to eat things that'd make a billy goat puke. In Vietnam his mission was to dispose of enemy personnel; To kill! period. Win by attrition and Rambo was the best.
@Reiklander Considering how insanely well prepared he was outside the tunnels they probably should've realized that following him in was a bad idea lol
Everyone's gotta have a hobby. And John Rambo's hobby was excavating a series of tunnels under his ranch for 10 years. It didn't matter how many guys Victor had. This was his house, and there was no chance in hell they would outsmart him on his home turf. These guys were hopelessly and hilariously outgunned.
I'm pretty sure this scene was inspired by Don Alejo Garza's last stand while defending his ranch from the zetas cartel. No man is deadlier to the criminals than brave and honest people with guns and guts.

Sooner or later a relative or close friend is going to try and hunt down Rambo. These guys, don’t give up. I’ve seen documentaries. El Chapo’s son once got arrested and threatened to declare war if he’s not released. All I know, what ever comes in Rambo’s way. He’s ready. And he’ll be waiting.

I just love movies that do this. Some group messes with the wrong man, he comes after them, hits them hard, and when they hunt him down it’s exactly what he wants. And neither of them understand that they are just dead men walking at that point.
In a world where prequels are despised, I wanna see Rambo enlisting. Being recruited by Trautman, and fighting in Vietnam. I'd call it Rambo The Taste of Blood.
If it was Nam veterans at their prime now with the training they received and the mental fortitude they’ve formed The entire hierarchy of this cartel would’ve been not only destroyed but put up for display just like John did in this film.
A good way of implementing the Viet Congs own strategies of tunnel making and ensuring the enemy knows constant fear and stress of their surroundings plus the blasting of music and traps. Im glad Rambo used all the experiences he went through and out them to good use
The whole point of setting traps is that u can't be at all places at once.. What's the point of standing there to shoot point blank when the guy is already fatally maimed. Let them scream a while. Awsm movie btw.. eternal sly fan!
Guerilla is winning by bleeding out the other party through unconventional means. You can't beat them in manpower or technology? Win by attrition. Setting traps, creating ambush points and choke points, create a lingering fear of terrain unfamiliarity. Basically anything that can nullify enemies advantage due to your lack of technology or manpower. Good thing about guerilla tactics also is the fact that the traps are makeshifts mostly from woods or scraps (glassshards, iron bars etc.) That is mostly seen on times of war that the traps are unsuspecting and that's where they'll get punished. By leaving the small details, they don't realize they are already in the lair and they're walking on the middle already of the trapfield.
Yep, Guerilla Warfare includes Hit and Run Tactics. Ironically the Vietcong and Taliban used Guerilla Warfare to great success in their Wars against the USA.
When they entered the tunnels, they felt something every normal day citizen feels every day, in the town they rule: FEAR. Fear that comes from knowing that you could be killed at any moment with impunity. The only question is: WHO, WHEN and HOW.
