Great review! Mayor Grody was the mayor of Tromaville, he was another bad guy who tried to help Killemoff (that’s DOCTOR KILLEMOFF!) get the Smogulons to earth. You’re the first reviewer I’ve seen wherein you do a PROPER comparison with the vintage Toxic Crusaders line, vintage TMNT and Dick Tracy. People do not realise how in-scale Playmates made their figures. I always had the turtles interact with Toxie and his crew. As I’ve gotten older, I totally agree that Dick Tracy can be either; the good cop who’s trying to solve the crime or he’s outnumbered fighting the street gang who are now in-line with the shredder and or Dr Killemoff. Keep up the fun stuff!
This is an incredibly comprehensive review. Thank you for going into so much detail. I honestly did not know that this figure was all-new, and was previously only planning to pick up figures of new characters to add to my vintage collection. Now I might collect the whole line. 😅
Excellent review, thank you. I don't for the life of me understand why it was really necessary for the makers to not include the mop flag - it's such a recognisable and eye-catching part of the original.
I watched all this stuff as a kid. i.e. Toxic Avenger, Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, Hellraiser, etc. I watched it all and loved it. Really glad I was able to. Though I think most kinds I knew all watched these movies as every kid knew who Freddy was. I also went as Freddy Kruger one year for Halloween, had that plastic Halloween costume with the Freddy mask on it. Loved it.
11:15 What's interesting is the vintage TMNT line I beleive was 5" scaled as the TMNT themselves are supposed to be shorter then the average human. If you look at Shredder and the Foot Soldiers, they had to sculpt them crouched over just so they'd fit on the blister bubble. I wouldn't be surprised if they needed to squash Toxie a little bit so he'd fit on the bubble too. If anything these new legs are more durable then the vintage 1991 TMNT style legs, as they tend to snap over time. Toxie's Toxic Waste back in the day was a more yellowish color AND it glowed in the dark! I got a MOC Nozone in like 1996 or 97 and he came with a small yellow cannister of toxic waste. I'm glad the new mop can actually separate for the action feature as the vintage toy's mop was on so tight I could never get it to work.
It's been my dream for them to do new "vintage" TMNT sculpts! Thought maybe it'd come true with the upcoming "vintage remastered" release but those seem to be missing the mark. I'm looking forward to this new Toxie line continuing! Hopefully they'll do the mailaway USA Toxie & maybe a movie style repaint. I just saw the Trick or Treat Toxie at Walmart today of all places!
I wish they'd have added the little details like the belt buckle & the American flag, but I'm hoping mayyyyybe the absence of the flag means they're reserving it for their own USA Toxie mailaway variant!
I was told by someone who knows someone at Super7 (pretty much everything he said was proven to be true so I believe him), that playmates thought super7’s ultimates we’re stepping on their reissue sales so they strong armed Nickelodeon into telling Super7 that they couldn’t make 100% accurate ultimates of classic playmates designs anymore. That’s why they’re focusing more on the 2003 cartoon series and also why the Rat King originally had a different design and the new version still doesn’t have any of the classic accessories. Also why we got Guerilla Gorilla instead of Sgt bananas. I’m still hoping we’ll get some old designs in the next wave, but I think it’ll probably just be more 2003 figures. They could also make classic toy designs if they appeared in other forms of media like comics etc.
Man Collectors are eating good nowadays. I'm not too sure why this fig is needed because we have the Super 7 version but hey I guess if u want a 2up of the OG, here it is.
Could be a licensing restriction but i visited the site during pre order , and they had their hands full on trick or treat stuff. Not figures like super 7. But heck of a figure for being a costume shop but they have dope stuff too & good artists obviously
My local store has these and I was considering buying it... but that green on the new one looks so muted compared to the og :/ If anything, it should pop more than the original! (Given the advances in tech.) I may still buy the new one just to show my support and the fact we want more of these, but I'm less excited by it now ( ..)
This figure is $25, so I hope the quality of the plastic, etc. is a lot better than the $10 reissue TMNT figures. As those TMNT figures are real cheap feeling and looking. I'd have gladly paid $15 for the quality to be the same or better than the original release.
No doubt, this is a great figure in vintage style. But I've got three variants of the S7 figure already (not to mention the Reaction Figure) and with space running out I have to ask myself, how many Toxies do I need? I wish this had come out two years ago.
Yvonne, Mayor Brody and Killermoff were only going to be released if Toxie is a success as he is the most popular character, this is what Pixel Dan was told at NYC ComicCon 2023. So far sadly Toxie doesnt seem to be flying of the shelves here in the UK so hoping for a miracle here that things improve sales wise. I dont think sales have been helped by the movie remake being delayed and in limbo and BBTS not getting stock till very late (April 2024) vs the UK's Dec 2023 and Pixel Dan not covering it.
@@Rocket1377 Yeah noticed it on their instagram, glad it got announced i will be preordering. Im still concerned though as they had already commited to Killemoff (On back of card art) where as the other figs are 100% gonna be down to the line doing well. Toxie is still a slow seller in the UK.
Toxie preorders sold through at least once on bbts & has come in stock at least once. As others mentioned, they have Killemoff listed for preorder. To top it off, I just saw Toxie at Walmart today, so these are getting a decent release.
@@ioncewasmikey Yeah sadly Toxie is still peg-warming here in the UK we havent even shifted the first batch of stock from Oct 2023. Killemoff has also not sold out any preorders yet.

The mayor is also based on the villain from the first Toxic Avenger movie.
Playmates own the old molds(if they exists at all), so of course thet sculpted new ones, looks like the sculpt is better too
These are made by the same sculpters who did the original Playmates figures, too.
Playmates doesn't own anything Troma owns.
@@shadowofbosstown Troma owns the characyers not the molds.

Found mine today at Walmart
I have mine ready to pick up at Walmart! Are there any other Trick R Treat studios toys at Walmart now?
You might could rub the handles on some sand paper to thin the handle down some so the bandoleer fits a little better.

The pop-out eye of the new one is not glow in the dark right, like the old one?

Ps swap the bandoleer to lay on the left shoulder to fit his pet
46:40 That's hilarious :DD Makes me wonder which one eyed Toxie this belongs to lol. (since you often see Toxie figures with glowing eye missing)
The original toxie's bulging eye glows in the dark, the new one doesn't

I think they probably adjusted his colours to look more cartoon accurate.

I think this is more aimed at people with a smaller budget then what Super7 Ultimates sell for, for you there is no point owning this.
Need the Toxie Super7 Keshi too! 😄
