I started out with the sugar cube but then switched to making simple syrup. I feel like it mixes better into the cocktail. Later on I discover making flavored simple syrup with orange zest. It saved me from buying the orange bitters. I encourage everyone to try it once.
Sounds good, but it begs the question of what makes a drink. Id say the muddling sugar is main thing that distinguishes an old fashioned, so what you described isnt one, but instead a lowball of your own creation which should get its own name. Definitely going to give it a try though sounds like the perfect end of the day tasty low effort no mess drink.
@@cernanwinterfox85 okay dude spoken like a prima donna who thinks they know better. Cocktails are about how you want it. The fact you won’t even try and see if my way mixes better proves my point… I have other theories about why This is so personal to you but I’ll keep them to myself 👍🖕
I do feel like muddling the sugar is better than using simple syrup because not all of the sugar dissolves which makes the cocktail build its sweetness upon drinking. Making it a better experience ti enjoy the cocktail different from adding simple syrup which will make the cocktail sweeter almost instantly ( givin a feeling of just drinking whiskey with sugar 🤮) ofc adding the oils from the orange ti hive the cocktail an aroma and add cítrics is a great idea tho.
@@arielborja1486 agreed. It’s not a classic old fashioned otherwise. Doesn’t mean it’s not a good drink; I’m sure it is. But if I’m not tasting the sugar in the drink then it’s not an old fashioned
I'm 37 and I didn't really start having drinks until earlier this year. I've been kind of looking for a go-to cocktail when I'm out socially and want to have one. I had this one yesterday with the cherry and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm still not a big drinker but it's nice to have something to go to now
Dont drink. You've made it this far no reason to start alcohol in your body. It like using cocaine for the 1st time at 40. Popular common drug, but, just, why?
I learned how to mix a old fashioned on this channel. I perfected it to my taste. And what a pleasure to whip up my own delicious cocktail. All the advice was wonderful as I was a complete novice. It’s such a treat I keep the ingredients at hand and can whip one up in a heartbeat. It’s fun making one at home to enjoy with music or food. To enjoy slowly. I never thought I would develop a taste I can understand now the sublime tastes of different whiskies and bourbon. I can mix the exact amount I want and know my limit. Thank for the advice. Very cool.
The flamed orange is a must. I've made a few old fashions lately and Monday was the first time I tried the orange trick but I flamed it with my brulee torch and did the rim of the glass and it added so much richness and depth to the cocktail. I've added cherries but the normal maraschinos and I use vanilla simple syrup instead of the sugar cube but it's so good I need to get the bitters and want to try either the Luxardo cherries or the Filthy brand liquor soaked cherries. Payday can't come soon enough.
I never used to drink until I saw this video....gotta admit, an old fashioned is pretty tasty. Been drinking them daily (at first) then multiple times a day. Got let go at my job last week too....that's OK it just means more "Old Fashioned" time for me. Is my liver supposed to hurt though?
I also like to leave a little bit of orange with the peel, and then I'll mud the orange, the bitters and the sugar, just to give a little orange flavor into the drink. And of course. Makers Mark.
My all-time fave! I toss in a Luxardo cherry with a splash of the juice. I also add a splash of Luxardo Maraschino Liqueur. There are so many variations out there. I hate the ones with soda. I think the large ice is important. Crushed ice waters it down.
I love Luxardo liquer in an old fashioned, but im also partial to a bit of fizz so i like using soda. The trick is not to drown it if your using it directly in the drink, but ideally id say its best served on the side with drink.
I must have had an old fashioned in 20 different places - each made differently - and each tasted amazing. It's my favourite drink, together with a straight forward vodka martini.
I just love this dude. Anything he prepares makes you want to go and make it yourself. I have never been a drinker but I tasted the Old Fashioned I got hooked, specially with that cherry 🍒
My first old fashioned was without the cherry but my second was with and, as someone from Vegas, the cherry really added some flavor that completely changed the drink. I loved it either way, but if I were to make it at home, I would for sure add the cherry. Thank you for the video 🙏🏼 Can't wait to make this at home!
i did work at a bar and yet no one ever ordered an old fashion nor was I told on how to mix one... I like the cherry, the heating of the peel is fantastic, thank u !!!
Excellent tutorial …flamed orange oil makes all the difference thanks for the great video…only change I made was to use Traegar Smoked simple syrup (that has vanilla and clove) in place of the sugar cube.
Made it last nite for some guests I had over. It was a hit! Especially with the luxurardo cherries. Truly the cherry on top no pun intended. Lol. Thank you so much! Never liked bourbon but I'm now a bourbon fan!
I don't do mixed drinks except occasionally...I'm a beer lady...but, Sir, you are FABULOUS!!!! I LOOOOVE YOUR SMILE...& YOUR PRESENTATION : KEEP IT REAL BABY !!!
What a charming drink! Never had one, but a beautiful lady I know says it's her absolute favorite drink and I was intrigued since I'd never seen one of these drinks made. I love that there's an interesting story behind how it came to be.
WHY do we love you so much, because you are YOU!!! Thank you for all the wonderful postings, and BTW Old Fashion is my favorite drink too, has been for many years. Same here Luxardo is the way to go.
Nice video. Old fashioned is my favorite cocktail. I just recently discovered the Luxardo cherries and they are so much better than regular maraschino cherries. And, yes, the cherry is the final touch for a perfect old fashioned.
I recently started loving old fashioned (thanks top golf) i bought that same bottle bulleit rye . Was hoping I bought the right bourbon and lo and behold looky here same bottle 😀
Here in Wisconsin, we make the Old Fashioned with Brandy, not whiskey. So if you’re ever in Wisconsin and ask for an Old Fashioned, you’ll get one made with brandy. Yummy!
I loved our mixologist's passion for this iconic cocktail. I used a demarara sugar cube, muddled with Angostura bitters, and two maraschino cherries from Opies of Kent, England. The bourbon? Bulleit, of course!! Flaming the orange peel was a nice pro touch I'll be sure to try next time! ✌️
flaming the orange peel that's a new one!! How did you come up with the idea to try that technique? I'm sure it will be a crowd pleaser. thanks for this incredible content!
I made my with the Stongwater old fashion mix ( from Amazon) Added a Cherry ! I use an old fashion glass and the Big square ice cube ( didn't like the round ice ball). Tasks great! Any suggestions if i make it from scratch? Sugar cube..bitter etc? Thanks
That guy's choppers are supernaturally perfect.

Well stop kidding will ya and make us some drinks. I mean just press the button back there marked booze!
Unfortunately it is possible to have too much of a good thing
Are you still unemployed and drinking old fashions into oblivion???

I like the cherry add on. And I prefer it with sugar cube vs. simple syrup. Good job buddy..

Im on board with all of this except putting sugar cubes in my drink. Im drinking enough poison as is. Absolutely zero reason to add sugar.
So you just want orange whiskey then lol@@chozen_juan
Sugar cube, luxardo cherry, orange, bitters. Muddle. I take out the orange skin. Add Ice then the bourbon. Give it a good stir and it’s amazing
Thank you great video this is my favourite drink cheers
Adding the cherry is a must, it brings out nice flavor profiles in bourbon.
The Orange is the star of the bourbon show. Hence, you do have to add it.
Cherries are nostalgia
I recently started making these as well and I actually like using the four roses bourbon 👍🏻
Four Roses Bourbon is so damn good! Better than the single barrel and small batch surprisingly!
can't go wrong with 4 roses!!!! good call people

Wow.. flaming the orange peel took it to another level.
I used Laphroaig Quarter Cask for a bit of smokiness. Thanks for the recipe my dude!

I believe the Luxardo Cherry is nearly essential for this cocktail
I really enjoy your cocktail videos.
He is actually not using bourbon, he's using Bulleit 95 rye...I love this whiskey, it makes an amazing old fashioned. Cheers 🥃
Rye is the way to go!
Bulleit 95 drinks like a bourbon but is advertised as a rye whiskey
"add the bourbon"
- adds rye
You can use whiskey too!
Idgaf, at least he used a cube.
This triggered me so much.
@@jkoeberlein1 yeah any type of whiskey will work, Rye, Bourbon, Scotch.. it’s really down to personal preference 🥃
@@drax14QC Thanks, I'm kinda partial to bourbon.
"...and change. Don't tell anyone. It's our secret". So classy and cool.
For low carb, use allulose in place of sugar. It's 70% sweet as sugar and dissolves just as easy on the liquid! Can't notice a difference.
Lmao counting carbs for an old fashioned!?
@@nikosr265 I agree, seems unnecessary
Luxardo cherry is a MUST!!! Fabulous, going to make an Old Fashioned now :-)
Love the enthusiasm and perfect recipe!

We call it the Atlanta Old fashion with the cherry and orange peel. Delicious I favorite!
Try one with Jameson Irish Whiskey, sugar cube, bitters, cherry, orange peel, and some B&B liquor. Amazing. Cheers!
I was with you until you added B&B.
I don't drink but I so very much enjoy your videos that I am enlightened and educated nonetheless!
The luxardo cherry is required! What a beautiful drink
Im more of a straight whiskey drinker, but watching this makes me wanna mix it up. Thanks!
Same here! The only thing other than straight whiskey i’ll drink is a jack and coke. This caught my interest for sure though.
i see what you did there
As am I. I prefer straight. But, this is just a classic.. and so simple..
Always used simple syrup but am going to try it with a sugar cube. I always use either a Luxardo cherry or homemade bourbon soaked cherries
Great instructional 👏👏👏👏👏👏🙏 looks absolutely magnificent 👍
Lmao I love the huge sound effect of glass breaking when you toss that tiny orange peel to the side 😂😂😂
That is exactly how I like my OF! With the cherry too!
My daily dose of Happy is here😍
Thank you for using my Angostura Bitters from my country 🇹🇹 🇹🇹 🇹🇹 Trinidad and Tobago it goes well with everything
I made my first cocktail with all the ingredients that you used. I am absolutely loving it.
Oh yum! Also, how satisfying is that orange peel snap!
Your videos make me so happy, I wish I could taste everything you make!
That was excellent. The best one I've seen so far!👍
Great video, thanks for sharing! I also like adding a cherry
I like to use maple syrup as my sweetener. It brings more flavours into play and complements the orange better than a sugar cube.
Dude awesome video straight to the point and I actually add a little syrup from the cherries too.
I didn’t have any sugar cubes so I made this recipe using vodka and orange juice. It came out amazing! Thanks for the recipe!

Buffalo trace instead of bullet rye.. trust me people it does make a difference.
Blantons, eagle rare, weller, or eh Taylor.
Fucking small batch taylor right now and it's fantastic
The LUXARDO cherries are heavenly!!!!
