I watched a video very similar to this one a while ago, on the video I commented “wow wish I had more chances to help people out like this.” The next time I went skiing, I heard a little girl crying in the woods. She had crashed and was crying for her mom. I went over there and asked is she needed help and she said yes. I talked to her and calmed her down while I helped her get her skis back on. I slowly helped her out of the woods, planning to go to the bottom of the lift to search for her mom. Right as we made it out of the trees her mom was waiting 20 ft away. Se got overly excited and went too fast on the moguls and fell down yet again, but she was 5ft away from her mom now so I took off. Glad I had the chance to help her out, and it’s interesting how sometimes wishes really do come true.

I literally had this same experience in Vail a few months back. I run trees daily and saw a skier who I knew just didn't have the skills to be running tight trees like the ones we were in. I told him the way out and right as I was about to exit i had the instincs to turn around and look for the skier. My gut told me he went down, and his silence was making me weary. I unstrapped and I kept yelling, is there a skier down? A few moments later, I hear help help!
I helped this guy get out for 30 minutes in waist deep powder. He had no idea how to get out. Army crawl out of the deep stuff is the easiest way.
The kid was so thankful to say the least. Good on this guy for having the sense that someone needed help.
This is a total flashback moment!

Anyone who skis off trail esp in powder needs bright clothing and tie bright string to bindings to help find skis if they separate from boots. The trick is to use skis like a rolling pin to flatten a surface wide enuf to heave up first one then the second boot into the bindings.
Can be tricky. Hollering for help beats freezing overnight or getting exhausted.

It awesome you got to her and helped. Hopefully more people see this as I've had old skier types that are decked out in ski race type stuff as think that's the luxury stuff, then kind snubs snowboarders, even though our gear is just as much or sometimes more. So seeing stuff like this, will hopefully change how people actually see your average snowboarder as. I can't tell you how many times I've helped people out and even sat with kids that bailed to calm them down. I've stopped middle for people who fell way behind me because of not strong enough of a skier yet, and walked back up the hill to give their skis to them. So videos like this are always awesome because it shows snowboarders in a different light.

My brother was on the lift one above me but I just silently slipped over and didn’t call out to him 😂😂 awkward child moment. Then I just sat to the edge weeping gently as person after person was dragged past looking awkwardly. Eventually a man got off the lift to help me! I guess nobody else wanted to leave the lift and have to help a silly child and go back to queue again - But I still remember this 20 years later! It really sticks in your mind when a stranger helps :) (my 12 year old brother was panicking at the top and had zoomed straight back to the bottom and met me there) ☺️

Hey fellow skiers! If you fall in very deep snow, use your ski poles. Cross them like an X and that way you won't punch through the snow and you can get some purchase to push off of to get up. Try not to immediately take your skis off, you need their platform, and it's harder to put them back on in deep snow.
It only took me half of my ski life to figure this out.😂 It works.
Snowboarders, I guess you just wiggle until you can pack the snow a bit.😊
