DEFCON status does NOT decrease simply by reaching Mil Ops level 5. It will only decrease by playing one of 5 War cards or by attempting a coup on a BATTLEGROUND state. Some other cards/events will also affect DEFCON level.
The other game 1989:Dawn of Freedom is one class higher in quality and gameplay mechanics i believe but its theme may not be so familiar with everyone since it in great detail covers events in east/central Europe and Balkans during the year 1989. If you like TS, i recommend taking a look at 1989:Dawn of Freedom just in case, you may fall in love with it, in my case it completely replaced Twilight Struggle :)
I was interested in this game and the period it covers, and I was on the fence with it . . . there are just a ton of options out there for my gaming dollar. Your review sold me, I just went to the GMT site and placed my order. Sadly it is in "P500 Reprint" status right now, so I'll have to wait. But $42.00 is worth the wait rather than paying $100+ to the scalpers out there. :) Great review!
Great review of a great game. Its still my favorite out of the ones I currently own though its hard to get people to play it at times due to it being 2 player and most of the time we have 3-4 people looking to play something. Thanks for the review :)
Rundlii Gaming Thanks! Yes, I have the same problem, my wife doesn't like to play competitive games with me, and the 2 player requirement makes it a bit harder to get to the table if you're ever with a group.
+Lauty Bend Played my first game this weekend and it only lasted till turn 2! Person I played against got unlucky and played a card wrong which gave me 7 VP. but it was really fun! I can't wait to play again!

+ignacj War cards do NOT lower DEFCON.
The dice tower needs to stop convincing me to buy board games. Great review. Thank you.

"Nuke-YOU-lar"?! ARGGGHH!
