Ninja Buddha that’s why he was never projected as a villain. But just like rocky, but one who had established himself. Rocky after the second film is somewhat similar to Apollo creed
That is a great way of looking at it. Yes he was there to help Rocky and ended up making a friend out of it, but by building up Rocky and training him in his style, he was gonna have that one last fight, and win, lose or draw, he was gonna feel like Rocky at the end of the first one.

That's a tiny clipping if the truth, but that's the pruning it takes to find clarity. The last piece is the one that really matters. That's real partnership.
I kind of hate that they built up the friendship between Apollo Creed and Rocky Balboa then killed off Creed in the next movie. It would have been interesting to see their friendship continue for awhile. I always sort of imagined Rocky and Apollo sitting on a back porch, sharing a beer and remembering the good ol' days of boxing while watching modern boxing on TV, remarking about how the other in their younger days woulda shown that lil' whippersnapper what was up. Well, THAT never happened.
But Creed's death gave rocky that eye of the tiger in movie 4 to train and avenge him. It's the only movie where he actually has something to fight for.
I love how as much as Apollo and Rocky were adversaries, they became even better friends. That's my favorite part of Rocky 3. Apollo chose to help Rocky when he was at his lowest point.
I love how Apollo was treated in these first three films! It's such a great evolution to becoming an amazing trainer! He may have been the antagonist in the first two films, but he's a good man, an intelligent fighter, a cunning strategist, and an incredible friend! The respect these two have for each other and the level of talent both men possess, and that warrior pride makes them one of the best bromances in cinema!
" EYE OF THE TIGER MAN " "THIS GUY WILL KNOCK YOU ON YOUR ASS " "THERE IS NO TOMORROW" Carl weathers as apollo was just simply amazing deserved a oscar for his performance him & rocky were amazing !!! motivation at its finest
I just realised something. Apollo was training with him, he was training himself because he knew he had a big fight coming up too. 😋 What a brilliant film.
He got to see, up close, without all the media and BS, who Rocky is; he respects him and proves to himself who he is, getting rid of the "stuff in the basement,"... Apollo Forever.
I was always worried in I and II that it was true that Rocky was a story about the white man vs the black man, but I think this training actually reveals something beautiful and dispels that. If it wasn’t for Apollo’s guidance Rocky could never have unlocked his true potential, in fact Apollo is portrayed as the perfect man. Athletic charismatic smart and clearly the most talented boxer in the game, but he helps Rocky because like the entire series it’s about underdogs and their heart, that no matter who we are or where we come from we can become great. Apollo and African Americans were especially underdogs, Pauly who represents the uneducated white American tries to dispel Apollo’s teachings even though they are what end up being the keys to defeating club Lang. They are willing to disregard Paulys ignorance and continue to encourage Rock to overcome. To me that’s beautiful
sad today to see the disrespect for America compared to way it was back then. Apollo was very pro USA as a character. Even the first movie as you say it's about an underdog. Apollo specifically wanted to fight a white guy in Philly for a reason. His theory of anyone, any underdog can make it in America. Compare to victim mindset still in black community today. Loved Apollos Rocky 4 character. Very prideful in America. Talked about its "Us vs Them" in relation to the Russians and political implications of his fight. Apollo while black wasn't a "african american" he was just an American and a great on at that. Then you look at some comments millennial on here butthurt because of Paulies comments on here. No understanding for the character.
If all you ever saw was race during the the first two Rocky films then you have failed. " I have a dream that one day my children, and their childrens children, shall be judged not by the color of their skin, but by the the content of their character"

After Mickey died Apollo and Duke were the perfect choices to help Rocky train and get ready for his rematch with Lang. I liked how they were helping and teaching Rocky a different way, a different style and a different approach to his rematch. The way Rocky started off with Lang proved that. That wasn't the same Rocky in his 2 fight with Apollo and his first fight with Lang although I will say his first fight with Lang Rocky wasn't all there mentally with what was going on with Mickey but Apollo and Duke helped make Rocky more of a danger to Lang for the rematch.
@@alexojideagu Rocky should have listened to her.Rocky had to give up his title, gained no money for the fight, got brain damage, rocky 5 happened and this also kind of lead to all of Adonis injuries in creed 2 and Viktors hard and unfair life, both of which wouldn't have happened if Ivan Drago wasn't shamed for losing to rocky.Yeah, maybe they shouldn't let the guy with brain damage from the 2nd film make such decision.
@@utoresa5193 Oh look, a Rocky hater. Get your head out of your ass. We are all glad that Rocky won, and avenged his friends death. Even though he payed the price.
carl weathers was fuckin awesome in rocky 3, he got everything bang on, played a mint part. He even mimics clubber langs southpaw stance when he,s throwing shots at rocky and we all know Apollo was unorthodox, that's top detail. He also moved better than a lot of todays fighters,,,,,....top boy..
The only issue I had with his simulation of Clubber was when he says, "He's jabbin'!" Clubber didn't throw a single jab for the entirety of both fights.
He didn't let him win the race, in an interview rocky (Forgot his name LOLL) said that he actually had to get learn how to run faster and that he actually beat him in the race
Yes but I think Rocky realised, and let Apollo win the secret fight. And that gave Apollo the confidence to enter the ring with Drago, who also didn't realise it was supposed to be a damn show.

Apollo Creed: the BEST fictional boxing character ever! Rocky comes a STRONG 1.5. Apollo MADE Rocky, REBUILT Rocky and RESURRECTED Rocky after Apollo's death.
Being afraid is not a bad thing. It makes you aware and prepares you for what is coming. Losing is no shame. Losing teaches you what you did wrong and shows you where to correct things.
In fact, I remember there's a scene where Adrian encourages Rocky to get out of the failure while on the beach. She showed him so much support when he was in big depression and low self-esteem, and did not complain a single word on him, that this could be the biggest motivation to Rocky because it is delivered by the one he cared most and love most.
This Rocky here is probably the most Potent and *Complete* .......think about it He retains all his original attributes Ferocity, Strength, Endurance, Mental Toughness while gaining Agility,Speed, Technique and Flair as well as his most important trait *Eye Of the Tiger*........Had He faced Drago during the time he beat Clubber Lang....he would have fucked Drago up Terribly
Very true. I so often hear from others how Rocky 3 is inferior, but I've always felt the opposite. His evolution in 3 is superior. Apollo fundamentally changes Rocky's boxing style to eliminate all that he was lacking before. In 1, 2, and 4, he won mainly through sheer determination and drive, perhaps even luck. Here, he becomes a more worthy champion through change. Awesome point, dude!
This is not true. As many here have noted, this style of fighting would have been deadly against Drago. Appolo lost to Drago with this technique, maybe he didn't take it very seriously against Drago, but he wouldn't have had a chance either way. Drago had more power than Lang and could also box. Duke recognised this and trained Rocky in a technique that was more like the brawler style, but an improved form of it. The technique is always based on who you are fighting. Duke was Appolo's trainer and certainly he was no novice, he knew what he was doing. With Drago, you needed stamina and power, not speed.

She comes out to see him, she comes out of all that anxiety to see how he's doing.
When he's on the mat, if he's conscious, he's thinking -"I don't want her to worry". It's likely as dumb as that.
He's got something to prove, to her, not just to himself.
Because his biggest fear in life wasn't dying, it was whether or not she'd ever come out of the pet shop... and if she should have.
So he made it worth it.
... Loves a complicated thing, you can't simplify it down. It's a many splendored thing, but it's savage. There's a reason the films without Adrian don't make it.
Because love is the only real battle worth fighting.
The real battle is here.
Who doesn't want to move a mountain to change someone's heart?
That's what it takes.
Rocky wins these fights when he wins over Adrian. Not later, not in the ring, not in training - he wins here he can win there.
And that's the benefit of a healthy relationship. You get to see the future beyojd your own limited perspective.
And that is what gives him the tools needed to win. He isn't training to win. He's training to lose harder, longer and better.
***** I meant, sort of a happy-ever-retired type thing.
But Creed's death gave rocky that eye of the tiger in movie 4 to train and avenge him. It's the only movie where he actually has something to fight for.
BelievinSP I felt patriotism, competitiveness, even just avenging Creed being badly beaten instead of killed, was plenty enough.
yeah me too
Mickey was an old man - just like Rocky in Creed. He couldn't run the beach with Rocky.
This is the movie that got me into training nearly 40 years ago , been training ever since now pushing 60, thanks Sly
I just realised something.
Apollo was training with him, he was training himself because he knew he had a big fight coming up too. 😋
What a brilliant film.

There are only few moments where I smile for 8 minutes straight. This is one of them.
Both of them legitimately look like their having fun. These actors are legends

Yes we watched the video
There Is No Bathroom
Hey, Adrian was the one who snapped him out of his daze. You cut out the motivation she gave him.
She always did in every movie esp rocky 2
She didn't in Rocky 4, she told him he can't win. Although later she came out to Russia.
Adrian was always the reason he suc***, always hated her.
carl weathers was fuckin awesome in rocky 3, he got everything bang on, played a mint part. He even mimics clubber langs southpaw stance when he,s throwing shots at rocky and we all know Apollo was unorthodox, that's top detail. He also moved better than a lot of todays fighters,,,,,....top boy..
clint flapcicle he moved better cos its fucking acting lmfao
@@TheFrozenOne97 he moves better cause he a ex nfl player
@@prakhardevnani7844 haha how it made him move better?
@@עומרמקמל-נ6י is this a joke? Or are you genuinely asking?
The only issue I had with his simulation of Clubber was when he says, "He's jabbin'!" Clubber didn't throw a single jab for the entirety of both fights.

Man Mr. T sure can play a helluva bad guy! He was so intimidating! Perfect for this movie. Rocky 3 was just as great as 1 and 2, forget the haters!
Rocky 3 was better
Yeah Rocky 3 is better

Apollo letting Rocky win the race to boost his confidence. Genius
@@JstShaiiko not a snowball chance in hell Sylvester Stallone beat Carl Weathers in a race if weather was actually trying LOL. Weathers was literally a professional athlete before he got into acting.

R.I.P Carl Weathers. 🙏 Thank you for inspiring the world.
Apollo showed that as long as you are willing to put in the work, you will be at your best.
I will always love how Apollo and Rocky became friends!! Rocky-How you gonna do that you taught me everything you know Apollo-"Almost everything you gotta remember stallion you fight great but im a great fighter:)))))
"There is no tomorrow. There is no tomorrow!"
Rip Carl Weathers. When he died..a piece of me died with him. Hes inspired me so much. He'll always be missed.
You can tell apollo was concerned with Rocky's well being.
This Rocky here is probably the most Potent and *Complete* .......think about it
He retains all his original attributes Ferocity, Strength, Endurance, Mental Toughness while gaining Agility,Speed, Technique and Flair as well as his most important trait *Eye Of the Tiger*........Had He faced Drago during the time he beat Clubber Lang....he would have fucked Drago up Terribly
Rip legend! Been listening to this for years but now it will hit even harder. We lost a true king! Rip Mr. Weathers 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

Apollo and Tony Duke gave Rocky the top notch professional training he needed.
This is my favorite rocky movie out the entire franchise mostly cuz of this scene because of how well it shows how rocky and apollo went from rivals to best friends
Carl weathers had true boxing tallent

You have to love Adrian, without her Rocky never would have gotten to where he wanted. She was with him during his lows, his highs and then his lows again, and never gave up on him or compained. The only time she got difficult was when the doctor told him about his head injury and that staying in the ring would damage him permanently. Adrian, class act all the way!
“Maybe we can win it back together. Eye of the tiger”
There’s so much motivation in that sentence alone.
No other movie or music gets me more pumped up than when Rocky trains.
