Just bought a week ago second hand OLD model ,DM38DAB with original denon speakers The unit is like new and I am really impressed by the sound quality. For me Bluetooth is not a deal breaker as the unit has two aux input , so very easy to connect external Bluetooth device.
I also bought one and although I am pleased with it, I noticed that the sound from a CD is actually worse than from Bluetooth. It seems lifeless and flat in comparison. Have you also noticed that?
A great improvement over the DM38. I was able to connect: 1) Panasonic TV via Optical (1) 2) XBox via Optical (2) 3) Panasonic BD player via RCA, using a cheap DCA converter. Optical (Out) on BD player to DCA, and 3.5mm to RCA cable from DCA to Denon. 4) Smartphone using BT. Using Dali Zensor 1s the sound was far superior than the speakers on the TV.

I love my Denon DM40, and was quite excited to hear that a new model was coming out. Sadly, I am not into bluetooth, and there is no USB on the new model. So, I guess it's no change for me.
Annoyed that the USB port has gone. And no FLAC support either??? I have a desktop PC - which has bluetooth - and it would be a few feet away from the Denon (if I bought one). Would I be able to play my USB sticks on my PC and have them play via Bluetooth through the Denon? Many thanks.
Thanks for the review. I don't mean to sound stupid but haven't owned a hifi in about 15 yrs... do you buy the speakers separate? Does a lot of the way it sounds not have a lot to do with the speakers you buy rather than the device itself?
Hi! Thank you for the feedback. The DM41mini system is indeed a Hi Fi seperate meaning you'll have to get a pair of speakers. The device itself can have an impact, with newer mini systems there tends to be updated hardware specifications offering better sound reproduction. The speakers do have a great impact on the sound of course, but there's a cut off point where no matter how expensive the speakers are it won't sound much better due to the mini system itself offering a higher output. My question is: Is it normal? Can the temperature it reaches affect the discs? I deduce that if the chassis is hot it is to cool the interior as much as possible?
I have my DM41 a couple of months now and to be honest I'm a little disappointed with it. The rotary volume control is quite stiff and when I press the mute button on the remote control, the unit makes a loud clicking sound like an internal relay switch is activated. Also, there's a 2 second pause when changing FM preset channels. The unit doesn't feel as 'premium' as I expected . I'm thinking of replacing it with another brand. I've had a few older and less pricy systems that felt nicer to use.

Hi .I see in specs that this unit has a lot of harmonic distortion (THD =10%), but at the end.. hows the sound? do you notice any hiss with this kind of unit ?
@@diegocanale1124 More precisely: You can stream FLAC Files without Aptx Codec as well, but with reduced Quality (no 16 Bit with Bluetooth). Hi Azaz z, My mistake i think thinking of a previous model sorry about that - you can connect your iPod/iPhone and play music through Bluetooth, Press Bluetooth on your controller to switch the input source to “Bluetooth”, when using for the first time, the unit will go into the pairing mode automatically and “Pairing” will appear on the display of the unit. Activate the Bluetooth settings on your mobile device. Select “Denon RCD-M41” from the Bluetooth device list on your mobile device. Enter “0000” when the password is requested on the screen of the Bluetooth device. This will allow you to them play your music on your DM-41, hope it helps. Sorry for the initial confusion.

It sounds fine, but one thing that puzzles and, frankly, worries me, is that my music sounds significantly better when streamed via Bluetooth than an actual CD. CDs sound flat and lifeless in comparison. How is that possible?
2 years late, but analog in means that some other source is feeding in to the receiver. Analog In does not output data, only receives. So either an external CD player, TV output, external DAC, or phono preamp will transmit data to the reciever, which in turn will output on the speaker posts. There is a mono output designed for subwoofers, and you can get a y-splitter to plug into a soundbar, but the sound coming out of the soundbar will be mono, not stereo.
No USB? Are you kidding us? How should I play music? From the phone that is ringing all the time. From the computer with it's fans? From CDs? Honestly I hated CDs, vinyl and tapes from forever. Playing FLAC files via USB should absolutely be THE DEFAULT way for playing music in this time. Who is buying a hifi device to play music from the phone?
A lot of people do now, we're in the streaming age. I do however always question why they removed the USB from it completely, i guess it was to bring the cost down of the unit and be more efficient for streaming. I do agree with you though, USB is the better method for a lot of people, including myself.
It will only play 2-channel SACD which isn't the best for complete set-ups, the Bluetooth is great though. I think Denon made the system with this day and age in mind where mobile phones and tablets dominate the industy. I understand that Blueooth isn't the best for an audio quality demo though, but it does still sound great :)
I would steer everyone away from buying anything from Denon, everything I've owned by Denon has a short shelf life, gone wrong, broken, etc an amp, 2 cd players and have just switched on my tuner to find there is no light on the digital display rendering it utterly useless, if I was a cynic I'd call it built in obsolescence . Loads of other manufacturer's out there to choose from so go elsewhere. Sick and tired of shoddy goods out of China that go to land fill within nano seconds of human reality.
Denon isn't Chinese, nor is it made in China either. It's Japanese, and if you didn't know, Japan have high standards, that's why their steel manufacturing is considered one of the best in the world. I'm still using my 1996 Denon System, owned for 15 years, I've had it professionally serviced 3x since 2009, the power supply and a few ports on the back, tend to burn out every several years from continuously use, I've probably put thousands of playing time on it. Denon really is a good quality company made exclusively in Japan, I'm sorry you've experienced major issues with your modern Denon systems, but please understand, for everyone who's had an issue there's someone who hasn't.
Hardly "wireless" when there is no wifi or bluetooth transmitter! It must cost pennies to put in bluetooth that transmits as well as receives. Wtf were they thinking!

I still have the dm 39 and wonder if in your opinion i might be better off back with that ?
@John Mcmanus As the DM41 dosen't have a USB port the only way i can think of connecting an iPod to it is via Bluetooth, but as you mentioned before it can lose sound quality. The DM 39 would probably be your better choice if you want to use USB. If you do want a change it may be worth looking at the Ceol N10 - www.hifix.co.uk/denon-rcdn10-network-mini-system
If it's just an iPod you want to use we do have an iPod speaker system you can check out www.hifix.co.uk/pioneer-xwnac3-ipod-speaker-system-open-box-white at a great discounted price.
Again, many thanks 👍 I’m currently using an old idock via rca cable into the analog input which is a big improvement on Bluetooth. Is there a vast difference between the dm 39 and dm 41? To read what hifi you would think it’s a massive difference! I’m looking at the ceol and it looks impressive, however that will have to wait a little while. Once again thank you for your help
There's improved technology within the unit but the Dm41 is heading into future wireless technologies.
Pioneer dm 40 Bluetooth I might buy this to pair with my speakers lovely heard great reviews
It would be a great choice Lloyd!
The USB is gone ... will stay with the DM40.
The DM40 is a great system, it is a shame the DM41 didn't include a USB option for input.
Agree. Really a mistake getting rid of USB....would've been a perfect system with it.
Sorry for sidetracking, as DM41 is the an update to DM40, anyone know if DM-T1 is the update to DM41? Or just entire different line?
It seems to me that DM-T1 is different. A shrinked down version, in terms of power and price.
Travis Smith No one use’s USB anymore,, Not missing that... Everything is done through the air.. Bluetooth is still going great Nice unit sounds mind blowing with Bose speakers
Hi,great video,i am owner of 39 model,i have dab antenna but i cant get dab radio, maybe you know how fix this issue? Thanks
Hi Adrian, that is strange indeed. We have something you can try that has worked with other customers. Disconnect the Denon from power, wait roughly 30 seconds, then plug it back in, while simultaneously pressing "
Any luck with this, Adrian?
@@HifixCoUkFrankHarvey omg its working, why i never seen your message before lol thanks alot guys😁
So this model doesn't support FLAC?
My phone supports FLAC, can't I play those files using Bluetooth?
Do you mean LDAC? No this system doesn't support LDAC or aptX
I mean FLAC files
@@1985cactus Play flac file on a pc and use optical in to get the quality...
@@garyblake9665 Yeah, wouldn't it be the most logical things that when you buy a device like this you don't expect that you will need a computer of phone too to be able to play the music?
Great review Tom.
does it have tone controls for bass and treble?
Yes, it has
Yeah Darko I opted for the DM40 because it has front panel USB and supports FLAC!!! The DM41 supports neither. Bluetooth sucks.
I guess Denon are edging more towards the future, but it is a shame for them to remove the USB and FLAC playback as you get much better sound.
Can't you play FLAC through Bluetooth?
Which song is being played in this video? Song and the singer name please.
Hi Chandradeep Kwatra,
The song name is "All The Roadrunning" by Mark Knopfler & Emmylou Harris. :)
Anyone know if the new Denon D-T1 is a replacement over this or just a lower priced model in the Denon line up?
I'm thinking to purchse a new system but not sure if I should buy D-M41 or D-T1.
It is certainly derived from the D-M41and features a lot of what the DM41 does www.denon.co.uk/uk/product/compactsystem/bluetoothsystem/dt1
However, both mini systems would be fantastic.
Did it sound good on radio and cds?
I personally haven't had a chance to try radio, but CD's sounded great. If you drop our sales team a call on 02476 631 707 they can offer further a insight on the Dm41! :)
stupid question, i can plug my iPod into this somehow right?
Hi Azaz z, Yes the front USB port will allow you to connect your I-Pod, i'm not sure if there's any limits on the generation of I-pod but most should work :)
many thanks
surely i can connect an rca cable with a mini jack no?
hold on usb? i can't see a connection
Hi Azaz z, My mistake i think thinking of a previous model sorry about that - you can connect your iPod/iPhone and play music through Bluetooth,
Press Bluetooth on your controller to switch the input source to “Bluetooth”, when using for the first time, the unit will go into the pairing mode automatically and “Pairing” will appear on the display of the unit.
Sorry for the initial confusion.
a real nice good looking little system....but please make this rack mount
Hi Dharama! We have a range of Hi fi Racks available to purchase on our websuite - www.hifix.co.uk/manufacturer/hi-fi-racks
Audio Andy Denon has rack mounts out there? Like the DN-3500/Z or the Denon DN-500BDMKII..you should check it out;and let me know how good they are?
I used to have the dm39. Sounded good but somewhat limited functionality (no wireless).
Please make video with Ceol N10 or 11 thanks😜😁✌️
Can you use it with Bluetooth speakers?
The Dm41 does have wireless connectivity, so they should work with the device. Call Us On: 02476 631 707 and our sales team can confirm this. :)
Does this company sell a specific Bass subwoofer for this system?
Hi reddaB, i don't believe Denon do have a sub specifically for the DM41. We have selected some speakers that perform well with the DM41 which can be found here on our website - www.hifix.co.uk/catalogsearch/result/?cat=0&q=dm41
Hope it helps :)
Frank Harvey Hi Fi Excellence Thanks for your reply! Researching a new system for mum. Her Technics has died of old age :(

@@reddaB it's hard to beat those old systems I got a Philips HiFi unit given to me and I love the sound it's way better than any new cheap HiFi
I am planning to pair it with mission lx-2 speakers? Do you think it's a good match?
Hi! Yes Denon DM41 DAB will be a perfect match for lx-2 speakers :)
It sounds fine, but one thing that puzzles and, frankly, worries me, is that my music sounds significantly better when streamed via Bluetooth than an actual CD. CDs sound flat and lifeless in comparison. How is that possible?
Good review. Put your notes by the camera then it doesn't look so obvious 😉
Thank you Jesus Is Lord! We appreciate the feedback and will work on it in future videos!
Jes
What a shame it lacks an USB port.
It cost more here now I just bought a refurbished one for $399 guaranteed sound and perform as new and
I have a denon 40 paid with KEF Q350 sounds amazing.
Good choice Marc!
Hi,will this work when connected to a soundbar via the analog in ?
2 years late, but analog in means that some other source is feeding in to the receiver. Analog In does not output data, only receives. So either an external CD player, TV output, external DAC, or phono preamp will transmit data to the reciever, which in turn will output on the speaker posts. There is a mono output designed for subwoofers, and you can get a y-splitter to plug into a soundbar, but the sound coming out of the soundbar will be mono, not stereo.
Does it come with 2 speakers?
I just bought a refurbished one for just $399 I haven’t heard or watched this video yet
No USB Socket 😣 Bad move 🤐
Strange it didn't have one, maybe on their next model it'll return.
dm-41 o df-109 ??
The DM-41 is a fantastic system, but it comes down to personal preferance at the end of the day.
Just me or do those power outlets look a little sketchy ? lol
Ughh Bluetooth for an audio quality demo ? Does it play SACD's ?
It will only play 2-channel SACD which isn't the best for complete set-ups, the Bluetooth is great though. I think Denon made the system with this day and age in mind where mobile phones and tablets dominate the industy.
I understand that Blueooth isn't the best for an audio quality demo though, but it does still sound great :)
No USB connector
Cd player has not worked for 3 years and DAB keeps dropping out so unimpressed.
No USB so it’s a no go for me
Nice hifi until the laser packs up out of warranty.....
what kind of accent is this?

I would steer everyone away from buying anything from Denon, everything I've owned by Denon has a short shelf life, gone wrong, broken, etc an amp, 2 cd players and have just switched on my tuner to find there is no light on the digital display rendering it utterly useless, if I was a cynic I'd call it built in obsolescence . Loads of other manufacturer's out there to choose from so go elsewhere. Sick and tired of shoddy goods out of China that go to land fill within nano seconds of human reality.
I have a denon tuner..
.ma y years ex service
@@JonBennett-l7j Is always an exception to the rule, if your happy, fine.

This is awful, what's the point if you can't plug in your MP3 player??
Ilike Denon dm39 , with USB.
Hardly "wireless" when there is no wifi or bluetooth transmitter! It must cost pennies to put in bluetooth that transmits as well as receives. Wtf were they thinking!
You sound like Rodney Trotter from Only Fools and Horses.
