Gotta love how you can get barely any War Participation by building a massive navy from scratch that sinks the biggest and best enemy navy single-handedly.
E
Building a Navy is probably the hardest compared to an Army or an Airforce yet the game doesn't reward that effort at all, still pretty fun tho.
Pretty fun yes. But I'd be cool if PD assigned SOME wp gain to it.
I'm pretty sure this is to prevent nations that start with massive navies, like the UK, from eating ALL of the war participation.
@@tomatoheadfd Yeah, there's a lot of things I wish paradox would do, like add the ability do turn off the tank/plane/ship designers as a toggleable game option. Or just add in a player led peace conferences by default to the game options. Or release DLC that isn't a greedy cash grab. Or fix old focus trees that are straight up broken, like the canadian democratic focus where you ask for newfoundland which you straight up cannot do because you cant physically get relations with britain high enough to do it. Pretty sure there are also some hungarian focuses that give 100% doctrine researches from the old system so they straight up do nothing with the new doctrine xp based system.
16:55 imagine a world where most families in italy had a relation that died in the great battle of birmingham. The great grudge between Italy and Birmingham
The only thing worse than dying in Birmingham is living in Birmingham....
@@bdleo300i can confirm it’s horrible here
Isn't even mentioned at 18:13 that the Canadians have sunk the Bismarck, without torpedo planes this time.
Torpedoes were still involved though
Man i sure do love the map game that definitely doesnt fucking drive me insane
E
Literally, I cut my hand open because of it yesterday. Okay maybe I’m not mentally well but it’s the games fault

Bf4 I ever played hoi I thought these comments were always a bit hyperbolic but oh my god it does kinda drive me insane despite being a great game
I've never rage quit harder than the time I got naval invaded as Finland after forgetting to pause while I went for a piss, I turned into Kyle for a sec lol.
@@Gaybullfrog385you good bro??
8:52 Fun fact, the Canadian navy did end up with aircraft carriers after the war. Historical accuracy!
Not to mention, they ended up being the fourth (yes, FOURTH) largest navy in the world by the end of WW2
@@IgneousKaiser Did they become fourth or did everyone else become last?
@@IgneousKaiserand scrapped all of it 70 years later..
@@brendanrisney2449 Everyone else became last. So much so that PepsiCo somewhat famously became the world's 6th largest navy by buying 17 submarines and 3 screens from the soviets to turn into soda cans.
@@Kandall05161 PepsiCo never own a navy, that entire story is a myth. It never happened. And if would have happened, 17 submarines, a frigate, a destroyer and a cruiser wouldn't be the world's 6th largest navy, but the 35th.
It's a funny story your dad will tell you, based on an idea floated in 1989 to pay Pepsi since the rubble was worthless. Instead, the Soviets built freight ships which Pepsi sold instead.
also worth noting that the "maritime railways" focus gave you factories literally as far away from an ocean as geographically possible.
If you don’t have Man the Guns DLC, heavy cruisers are still their own research item which is probably why they haven’t updated the focus tree

To be fair. Canada did have the world’s 3rd most powerful navy at the end of WW2.
Granted every other navy that wasn’t an Allied Navy was sunk but it’s something
Considering number 1 and 2 were the navies of the world's new premier superpower and the world's previous premier superpower, that's impressive indeed.
@@randomlyentertaining8287 And it was bigger than the up-and-coming second superpower's fleet
No one believes that
It was the fourth, the Soviets had a bigger navy.
3rd most numerous, i believe. not the most powerful. a lot of those were corvettes, our main interest was convoy escorts and ASW
Road to 56 is designed to extend the playable time by several years, you played beyond even their end date.
I love 56 since it’s basically vanilla++ but I don’t like where they went with some of the focus trees. For example I remember a game where I wanted to play as Poland and side with one of the big two. In vanilla you can side with both but for some reason in 56 there’s like 4 different Facist paths and none of them let you fully ally with Germany without betraying them
I love how democratic Germany at the end demanded Slovakia and partitioned Yugoslavia

ISP has truly lost his sanity at this point
I've played till 1991 before in the USA state mod with the whole world active as a newer player. I played as Minnesota and slowly took over all the America's North and South. After I finally consolidated the America's and having ignored the rest of the world I had discovered the Axis lost and after that the allies lost to the Comintern. Japan had taken all of China and was now fighting the Soviets there. I naval invaded from Brazil into Africa and began to push with infantry only not having the industry to support anything else. I did this game back in like 2019 so it was a much much older patch. There was no zone in North Africa preventing movement. It was just a zero supply nightmare tile for me to try to push through. I slowly burned through my small limited manpower taking all of south and central Africa and got to the doorstep of southern Egypt before I ran completely out of manpower. As Minnesota a single state of the US with no other owned territory as core. Everything else was occupied. Manpower was a problem. This is where I finally stalled out. It had reached 1991 and my old HP laptop who played the game really slow as soon as it reached 1938 got to the point where min of real time was a day of game time and I just couldn't take the slog any more. I had to retire from the campaign. My Navy stacks of only aircraft carriers with overstacked airplane wings on them of a couple thousand on each not understanding anything now Navy works using them as death stacks wasn't helping me much for Naval control and my industry couldn't support an airforce or tank industry. I was human wave offense on scrapping the barrel running out of manpower. I was even using the old default focus tree giving nationalism and the military youth thing getting the extra 7% manpower. In the 80's of the campaign I switched to mobile warfare and did the choices for extra manpower in a desperate last ditch to get extra manpower as I had been running desperately low. The vassal storm of the Soviet Union finally just wore me down to the point I couldn't finish. Resources exhausted. Manpower gone. Sanity finished. This was my greatest game. I still wish I could have found a way to finish it
I leave the game in 1943 due too lag 😭😭😭
@@JacobFrapsI leave in 1944 because of the ai deathstacks
5:33 Habakkuk is referring to a WW2 plan to make naval carriers out of pykrete (basically a special blend of pulped wood and ice) that was based in Canada. It was kind of successful, but not enough to be actually used in the war. Pykrete is still used to make roads in the far north because it's as strong as concrete without the risk of cracking from the cold.
ISP, think you should call this series Focus Tree A-Z. It tells people what the series is, and it rhymes!
I think there is a new algorithm thing where titles that are part of a series don't perform as well
Unfortuantely it only rhymes when you pronounce it with an American accent.
I once ran a campaign until 1970 with communist China... I had the historical focus deactivated... I will not deactivate it again
Artillery only when?
Artillery only till 1960?
Artillery only 1 division world conquest
If you use light cruisers and carriers, i reccomend to make cheap heavy cruisers as meatshields to absorb heavy attack, otherwise your carriers will absorb all the heavy attack.
They really do need to have a look at war participation. Air and naval contribution is grossly undervalued, and occupation is massively inflated.
Its better than what it was when they first released the "reworked" peace conference, where you could get like 60% participation by doing nothing but lend leasing and strat bombing.
Occupation should be inflated even more so. That was and is the biggest contributor who gets to decide what happens after war in real life. But that’s not the problem, it’s inflated casualty contribution what’s causing the issue. And I don’t believe Paradox is going to do anything about because some worker there seems to hate the idea of player dominated peace deal.
@@santerilaakeristo7305 They should just add player led peace conferences into the base game... It's not like they cant just make you disable it to enable achievements. But yeah you're probably right that one of the devs just has a lot of contempt for the customers so it isn't a thing.
Don’t blame something on malice that can be explained with incipience. Stop conspiracy posting.
People who play naval into the 1960s should be locked in a padded room

17:10 Mao and Chang did a historical swap lmao
I had a Kaiserreich game as Japan go until the mid 1970's last week. It was actually kind of fun since I was Japan and had to conquer basically the entire planet (China & USA for their core wars, then cleaning up Asia, followed by Africa and a few wardecs on minors for resource stealing) to be able to outproduce the gigantic German-Italian-Austrian monobloc that had taken out the UK, France and Russia, in order to get rid of their resources so I could counter their 100,000+ plane count. I ended up dropping a lot of nukes then invading with a huge force of amphibious tanks & amtracs.
yeah i think the german ai is putting too many troops on the eastern front
that explain both why the allies are so successful early while the soviets are struggling until 1944
I mean historically like 85% of the Wehrmacht was on the Eastern Front right up to the Race to Berlin iirc so it's not necessarily inaccurate numbers-wise. I think the problem there is the Allies putting way more men in Europe than was historical to do so.
@@zacky1010 and how do you explain the soviets?
@@NotKnafo They should indeed be pushing back by 1943, I guess it's either their spirits being *too* punishing for AI or them just not being able to get that 5:2 deployed manpower ratio with Germany for some reason. By the time they reached Berlin the Red Army was 11M strong
@@zacky1010 i ran a test until april 1943 (cause i got tiered be back tomorrow to finish it)
and its seems like i was wrong about the troops ratio of the germans (they actually put most of their troops guarding against allied invasions)
the allies in the test operated unusually poorly so my understanding of why they are usually strong is mostly based on the usa joining a year too early to the allies and japan being overall weak compare to the europeans and usa
but on the soviet side its very clear that there are many problems
the soviets run equipment shortage in the thousands and have chronic supply issues
could be because of multiple reasons:
lack of mils they have less than italy after the germans take moscow (about 70 mils)
soviet ai doing focuses in the wrong order (im not sure if middle east intervention is a 1941 focus)
soviet ai producing too much of different equipment
soviet ai switching equipment production line to newer equipment instead of keeping on producing old equipment until they start stocking them
spirits too nerfing
@@NotKnafo nono, Soviet invasion of Iran was indeed in 1941, alongside a British one too
Can’t wait for historical Tana Tuva
That will be a very short video 💀
I want Democratic neutral Tanu Tuva or Manchuria personally
He has been contained in the lab safely and will continue to make hoi4 videos forever
You deserve 800k subscribers after that focus tree
Naval HOI4 ISP videos are always my favourite ones
I'm baffled at how expensive a navy is to build, but sinking every boat from every opposing navy contributes almost no score, but by golly you can shoot down 1000 planes and get 20 percent.
I think I once sunk the Bismark with two canadian Battleships, an escort carrier, and 20 screens
Sir, you could play Pacman and I'd watch. You're comedic timing is perfect.
This is Insane even for isorrowproductions
The hero I didn't know I needed.
It's so interesting to see ships that my grandfather served on in this game! HMCS Magnificent and such
The fact that Canada still has the light cruiser and heavy cruiser focuses is probably because the navy rework only applies to Man the Guns owners. But they could still make a dynamic focus tree that changes based on whether you have the dlc enabled, I know they did that with Poland with the polish cipher bureau branch that only appears with La Resistance enabled
this really sounds fun. i might try this aswell
One tine i had to play as Persia until 1961 until I could build a navy and invade US. It was one of the most fun campains I've ever done.
13:30 Oh. THAT's why War Participation from naval activities got boosted x5 in last update. Well... better late than never!

ISP, I have an extraordinary video idea! Play as Jan Mayen. All you have to do is go down the Anastasia path as Poland, get Wojtek as leader and own Jan Mayen. After that, you can release Jan Mayen and play as them. You also get a pretty overpowered leader. Hope you see my comment :)

Ive been having a lot of fun playing naval minors these days. Sweden, Portugal, Spain, etc. Even Argentina without dlc. Its kinda relaxing. Like, no expectations for impact until like 42' or 44' 😂.

I tried to do something similar, but my fleets spends weeks on fighting submarines, shooting down 1, leaving 30 and repeat :( I had radar and depth charges, yet submarines usually get away
Poseidon eatin good today bb
You should have played with Extended Tech Tree 1960 lol, it's a favorite of mine that takes the vanilla tree and just extends it a bit. It's a lot of fun if you hate yourself like I do
Remember guys, You paid for the commonwealth DLC once. But now its part of the base game so you clearly never have had a commonwealth dlc.
3:57... it's like this for air research bonuses too... all "fighter" and "cas" research boosts are now just "light airframe" research boosts, even though they still say "fighter" and "cas" in the focus trees. So yeah, getting 1944 light airframe now is doable by most nations around 1941/42 at the latest
If you don't have the DLC for customizing airplanes, they're still separate, thats probably why.
@@Eradikateu It's odd when a DLC makes certain things worse somehow

This is why I really don't like naval combat in HOI4, it just boils down to bring a big deathstack and watch the other deathstack get obliterated. I wish the number of ships lost in each naval battle was massively reduced so that the naval war actually went on for a while, kinda ridiculous that you can wipe a countries entire capital ship lineup in a single engagement
