Night Angel Exactly. When I got over my obsession with long hair and focused on getting it healthy (I lived and died by heat for a long time) it started growing. I stopped counting every centimeter and just focused on getting it healthy and have been for about a year now. Healthy hair grows
Maybe this will help someone: I check for breakage by making sure all the hairs that come out in the shower are long, not short. Longer hairs indicate shedding and short hairs indicate breakage. You can look to see if the root of the hair is there. If it is, it's shedding not breakage.
Idk about the shiny part. Not all natural hair is shiny. I know my hair is healthy, but my hair has never really had a sheen. Idk if it is because of the color or what but it's not realistic for me to have a natural shine. that's just not my hair lol
I agree, you don't have to have shine. I've seen so much variation when it come to shine. I have cottony hair and it has shine/sheen (even after washing) especially now that I condition and moisturize it regularly, it's one of the first things I ( and my family) noticed when I started taking care of it, but I know people with healthy "cottony" hair (more healthy and stronger than mine) that don't have much shine or have little to none, and others with more shine than mine. idk probably just depends on the individual?
Shantia Allen when I say shine I don't necessarily mean super shiny hair that needs no oil to not look dry..what I mean is when you hair is damaged it has no life it's extremely DULL only people who transitioned really know what this looks like, once your hair gains health this dullness goes away..from my experience damaged hair usually never can hold shine or sheen to it..probably should've inserted pics so you all could've seen but even if you have a less shiny type of hair it's still able to achieve shine at one point and should not look dull like unhealthy damaged hair if that makes sense
Easy breakage isn't always a sign of unhealthy hair. High porosity hair can break easily. But again plenty of moisture and a good oil like Jamaican Black Castor oil and a good conditioning routine helps plenty.☺
I don't agree with the shine and elasticity because all hair types are kinda different..Some hair can't take too much manipulation..all hair is different
Naturally Kie elasticity should be something in all hair types if not then it means your hair has a protein issue however I do agree with you on the shine not all hair has too shiny but elasticity is a major factor
I totally agree. Yeah I have shrinkage but when I pull it down, it'll bounce back but not to it's original place. I'll have to scrunch it up to get it back to where it is. But my hair is very healthy and this is just the way my hair is.
I think is a bit misleading because if you have super curly, thick hair that even when wet is an afro, your hair is not going to look super shiny because the strands are harder to see. If your strands clump together more, then you'll see more shine.
tigana try to twist some haur around your vinger. it wil force the strands to clump together for that moment, and if my theory is correct then you should see the shine
this was so helpful, especially the shrinkage part. initially i just wanted my hair to grow and get thicker and longer, but now i just want my curls to be healthy, shiny, and strong. so thanks girl, very helpful ❤️
I know damn well my natural hair is dry and unhealthy as fuck but I clicked on this vid anyway like *gasp* this is it!! This how imma be able to tell!! 😂
Another thing to pay attention to is your curls if it's straight at the ends it's obviously unhealthy and damaged from heat so those got to go snip snip. I recently cut my ends off because they were so dry and haven't been cut in months and I instantly seen a difference in my hairs health :)
I cut off all my split ends a few months ago and even though it wasn't too much my hair shrunk A LOT. It's as though the split ends were weighing my hair down. Now my hair is back to it's original length while straight, but when it's curly it looks like it hasn't grown much at all.
All natural hair doesnt shine. That only applies to certain hair types. I have 3c/4a and my hair has a little shine to it but it's nothing crazy. I agree with a lot of her points but all dont apply to everyone 😊
Nic Nics Curls. Thank you, I was about to day that. Black hair is basically coily and flat under the microscope; so light tends to reflect (shine) on some of our hair types. It reflects better on round strands, e.g. white, asian hair.
Cool video! Technically hair cannot be "healthy," as the cells are dead once the hair grows out of the scalp. I know it sounds like I'm nitpicking, but once we understand that hair can only be well-maintained, that there is no such thing as "repairing damage" to the hair, we can avoid being fooled by miracle remedies and expensive products and hair tools. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for writing them because I fast forwarded and was able to read them. Very cool that shrinkage means healthy hair. We need to stop complaining about it.
Someone many have mentioned this, but not every hair type shines. For many coarse hair types, there's a sheen instead, a pearlescent glow. This is all I will add to the video.
Ion get it like my hair is unhealthy but i never dyed them and I don’t straighten them often ( about 2/3 times /year). I even bought a bunch of organic oils, moisturizers and conditioners to keep em healthy but they are notttt
Yesss! Lol so hair goals are complete then! Haha last wash day my hair had major shrinkage I had no idea my hair could do that! I actually loved it ..being summer time, it's nice having it off my shoulders for once haha
I don't even know my hair type ☹️️ I live in Germany and here is very difficult to find an experienced hair stylist that knows how black hair works. Last time I went to a salon was 4-5 years ago 😳 had bad experiences because they messed up my hair ☹️️
Shine does not necessarily mean healthy. Shine occurs when all you strands are going in the same direction and allow light to reflect off in a uniform manner. Or if your hair is coated with something that reflects light well (like silicones). So for those who commonly have shiny hair if it stops being shiny then yea something is up. But for people that find it is difficult to get shinny hair in general even after moisturizing it, even when you hair feels and looks amazing but it's just not shining like everyone else, that does not necessarily mean your hair is not healthy. It could just be the architecture of you hair that prevents light from reflecting in a uniform manner.
Hi I'm going crazy on whts the best product to buy for my daughter hair to get it to curl. So far I've brought the Shea butter leave in the as I am cold wash and some others stuff but her hair won't curl once it dry it turn into a big puff. Can u suggest all the product I can buy I'm so done watching everyone and buying and it won't work. Wht work on my hair won't work in her's she as thick hair course hair. Not nappy can u help plz😁😁😥😩😡
I don't put anything in my hair, but conditioner. Everyone looks at it and says it's healthy. It's longer than this picture. And it's big on it's own, even though I wish it would just lay down. And yep, tons of shrinkage and elasticity. My 4a curls are so small, that it's taking forever to grow out, or to show that it's grown. But, when pulled, it's long. So, I'm happy.
love your video 😀 i have a question i have kinky curly fine hair if my hair is dry af ter washed hair my hair is always stiff not bouncy what product can i use ? please help me 😣
you may have to start styling your hair on really wet hair..this is what I do with my daughter..applying the products on wet hair helps to seal in that moisture..once you have the products on your hair be sure to seal everything in with an oil or butter
I love love love Argan Rain Shampoo. It is working fantastically. After the second time I noticed a difference. I even recommended it to a friend of mine who purchased it the same day I spoke of it. Thank you.
My hair has the shrinkage and the shine, but it breaks easy and has zero elasticity, I don't know what to do. I'm about to try and do a protein treatment for the first time, and I have low porosity hair... any suggestions for breakage and elasticity.
So for the shrinkage, is this pre-product or post-product? My hair shrinks the most after I've put product in it, but if I wash it and go without product, my curls aren't as defined and don't shrink as much.
Can someone explain to me why the back of my hair has like ringlets (I guess that's what they are called) and the front of my hair is just kind of straight (like waves). I don't really understand if maybe I have two textures or that's just my hair.... I'd appreciate it if someone could explain
I been natural for a year now but my curls don't really clump together like yours, but If I cut my hair all the way off again and start over will my texture change to like muchhhh better and start to clump ?
How do you get your hair flat like that and how do you get your hair fluffy and afro like? Can you do a video on the different things you do to get different looks?
When I pull my hair it doesnt break off or anything like that, I just doesn't bounce back into shape. It'll become more straight or loose, does it mean I need more keratin?
UNIQUE CURLZ Hey, giving advice just b/c I've been there but if your hair is heat damaged I'd suggest big chopping or transitioning (what I personally did). If you go the transitioning route, stop putting heat on your hair, maybe try some protective styles like braids or sew ins, and clip your ends/unhealthy hair!! It took me a yr into my journey to clip my hair which I regret. But yea, hope this helped!
i shaved all my hair off and now im about 4 months in. my hair has straight frizzy pieces on one side of my hair and idk if that is just a texture that naturally grows in my hair or if its damage. my hair is low porosity
I have 3 different textures of hair, and after I deep condition it it turns out very shiny. And I was wondering why when I wash it it sheds a little and yes the shrinkage is real.
my hair breaks easily when I pull on it. it's full and thick, I use no heat, I deep condition but I have one side that's not elastic and I do use color. I don't trim regularly..smh but besides that it's cool. oh and it's dry af but wet and with product it's luscious
Well I know my hair is heat damaged but it's always had a natural shine, and it still does. My cousins hair never has a shine but it's healthier than mine.
my hair use to be straight and bum length now they are short extra curly and hard to manage i have to prep my hair four days in adavane the length now is chin lenght is it still healthy am thinking age causes changes in hair am not sure my hair was much healthier when long now am living three years of misery i wish i could share photos privately.
please help! I'm past bra strap length but when i wash n go it looks like a twa(no joke) I have fine natural hair and I use to have super thick nappy beautiful hair....how do I get that back :-(
pious pistle Jamaican black castor oil love! It promotes thick hair and really works. Massage it into your scalp every night routinely. And you will see major results. You can also massage it in your hair before shampoo with coconut oil to add softeness, wrap in a plastic bag for 30-45 mins then shampoo and condition with sulfate free products!
Hey Shawnta, I have a question i have very curly it about 3B/4C hair I love the way my curly look when they are wet and want to were heir out like that as if it was a style but because my hair is so thick with a lot shrinkage it just goes back into a puff!!! (this also happens when i use gel i can never find a gel that works for me so i just have stopped using them) is there any ''vegan'' products you can suggest to achieve the style that that im looking for.. also any help with the gel as well?
Sheniya L. Some people leave rinse out conditioners in their hair all the time. I don't because I like the Cantu leave in conditioners, but leaving a little in shouldn't hurt it.
Sheniya L. Cantu has three different leave in products. I prefer the Cantu Shea Butter Leave In Repair Cream. There is an Argan oil version, but what I do is mix actual argan oil into the leave in conditioner. Therfore creating a shea butter and argan oil leave in. When I learned shrinkage equalled hydrated healthy curls I completely stopped tripping.
Tieasha S. Same!!
Tieasha S. it could also mean too much protein tho
I feel you
I hate the way it looks on my hair tho!😩🤦🏽♀️
It was really hard for me and still is to embrace this change.
I'm glad you're talking about obtaining and keeping healthy hair. We may like long hair, but we should all strive for healthy hair.
Night Angel Exactly. When I got over my obsession with long hair and focused on getting it healthy (I lived and died by heat for a long time) it started growing. I stopped counting every centimeter and just focused on getting it healthy and have been for about a year now. Healthy hair grows
Kinky Koily Kayla yes, ma'am. Healthy hair flourishes. We should all know and understand that fact.

Khaleesi Delmar thank you!
Kalese Webber I do the same thing.
Old comment, but THANK YOU for telling me this!
I've never met someone with so much intelligence. (ㆁωㆁ)
I always do it and always get nervous when the strand is short. It triggers me sooo much!
You have a pretty face & you rarely wear makeup and I think that's so beautiful that you show your natural beauty
thanks love
Shawntas Way My bad lol I assumed you wear it sometimes
Shawntas Way same

one word... henna! it is the absolute truth! 100% pure henna will bring strength to ur hair. I relax so I need all the strength I can get. I love it

MissBarbieDeluxe 👏👏👏
Mine too but I also don’t use any gels or jellies..so maybe that’s why my 3rd day hair starts to look crazy.

this was so helpful, especially the shrinkage part. initially i just wanted my hair to grow and get thicker and longer, but now i just want my curls to be healthy, shiny, and strong. so thanks girl, very helpful ❤️

Long hair doesn't equal healthy hair but if you're hair isn't grown that's a sign of unhealthy hair or body.

Awud xx I know! it's so unfair!
Ok thanks.
All natural hair doesnt shine. That only applies to certain hair types. I have 3c/4a and my hair has a little shine to it but it's nothing crazy. I agree with a lot of her points but all dont apply to everyone 😊
My hair only shines when it's twisted ._.

Yes I can truly say my hair is healthy. Thanks for sharing!!!

This video helped.I relaxed my hair for 22 years and last year it came out and thinned out.So I went natural and its growing back fuller and thicker.
Your hair is so beautiful! Thanks for the tips
my hair does bounce back when i pull on it but my ends break so easily!! what would you recommend to help with my breakage?

Well my hair is supper healthy becacause when my hair shrink looks like it just got cut and my hair is thick
What do i do when my split ends are throughout my hair? I can't just trim them away without getting rid of healthy hair
@Shawnta in your opinion, how can you tell if your ends need to be cut?
So Life Gets Real if it looks like the ends of a grass straw

Breakage is occasional! Shedding is when the bulb of the hair is shown and it comes out in clumps and may show thinness or bald spots!
This was nice and informative. NEW SUBBIE !!!
I love her accent
Thanks for the tips, and you look like a natural curly hair.
Great video, super helpful! Thank you! xoxo
Thank you for the tips!!
My hairs really bushy and thick and it really hurts when my Mom combs it but its curly a times
I have experience shrinkage with my hair after i shampoo & deep condition it!. I have been natural for 2 and half years now!
NOTED!!!
Love this vid 👌🏿
Can someone explain to me why the back of my hair has like ringlets (I guess that's what they are called) and the front of my hair is just kind of straight (like waves). I don't really understand if maybe I have two textures or that's just my hair....
I'd appreciate it if someone could explain
Sotto Monroe OMG same
Your tops are nice, do you make them?
I been natural for a year now but my curls don't really clump together like yours, but If I cut my hair all the way off again and start over will my texture change to like muchhhh better and start to clump ?
I like how yours is like a wet curly look make me wanna try. What u use???
How do you get your hair flat like that and how do you get your hair fluffy and afro like? Can you do a video on the different things you do to get different looks?
Cherish White darn I really like I flat and wanted to know how I can get that look ;-;
Cat That One I don't think that's how our hair type works
I LOVE U SO MUCH
Your hair are so pretty
I do not get the shine to my natural hair; i have been using design essentials for washing& conditioning!.
When I pull my hair it doesnt break off or anything like that, I just doesn't bounce back into shape. It'll become more straight or loose, does it mean I need more keratin?
I am a boy and my hair is nice and straight!
Everyone boy in my class have curly hair! Do it mean my hair is healthy?
Hi my hair seems healthy but at the crown of my hair is really coarse and I moisturize smh what can I do😢😢
I have been natural for about 2 and half years now. I wear hair in a bun a lot !
I not always sure if it's growing healthy or not!
Love ur hair I am natural but I straight straighten my hair now I have heat damage wat should I do
UNIQUE CURLZ Hey, giving advice just b/c I've been there but if your hair is heat damaged I'd suggest big chopping or transitioning (what I personally did).
I loveeee your hair
my hair shrinks up when its dry too, does that mean anything?
+Shawntas way my hair looks dull when its curly but not when its stretched. Is that fine?
I have 3 different textures of hair, and after I deep condition it it turns out very shiny. And I was wondering why when I wash it it sheds a little and yes the shrinkage is real.
What camera do you use?
i normally plat it and moisterizing
but then i plat my hair is really small sections and then i had to tug and pull to untie my hair💔
my hair breaks easily when I pull on it. it's full and thick, I use no heat, I deep condition but I have one side that's not elastic and I do use color. I don't trim regularly..smh but besides that it's cool. oh and it's dry af but wet and with product it's luscious
Well I know my hair is heat damaged but it's always had a natural shine, and it still does. My cousins hair never has a shine but it's healthier than mine.
Ok so what to do about breakage? Mine is so bad that when I wash my hair, a lot goes into the bathtub. My hair is very thick and bra scrap length btw
My hair has been shrinking more than usual its the same length does that mean my hair is healthier?
You favor Ella mai
bruh this whole time i thought my hair was unhealthy but after seeing this i thought wrong lmaoo😂💛💕
my hair use to be straight and bum length now they are short extra curly and hard to manage i have to prep my hair four days in adavane the length now is chin lenght is it still healthy am thinking age causes changes in hair am not sure my hair was much healthier when long now am living three years of misery i wish i could share photos privately.
please help!
Jaye B thx so much!!
pious pistle eat fruits and veggies and mostrize your hair and drink water$!☺😘
when you say “nappy” are you talking about 4c hair??
When your hair is wet and you have some breakage does that mean it’s unhealthy?
Hey Shawnta, I have a question i have very curly it about 3B/4C hair I love the way my curly look when they are wet and want to were heir out like that as if it was a style but because my hair is so thick with a lot shrinkage it just goes back into a puff!!! (this also happens when i use gel i can never find a gel that works for me so i just have stopped using them) is there any ''vegan'' products you can suggest to achieve the style that that im looking for.. also any help with the gel as well?
Shea moisture is vegan and they work pretty well they have cruelty free on the bottle
Giovanni i a full vegan line.
Akira On for some reason when it comes to their some of their products my hair doesn't seem to compromise with him very well
Elizabeth Harris yeah their products are alright
and I think devacurl is vegan as well now
can I leave in Aussie moist conditoner or do I have to wash majority of it out
Sheniya L. Some people leave rinse out conditioners in their hair all the time. I don't because I like the Cantu leave in conditioners, but leaving a little in shouldn't hurt it.
