    I hauled the 870e Lowboy trailer with that very configuration in Afghanistan back in 09'. I'm still amazed by what those things can do! The one I operated overseas was manufactured in 1986.
    The container transport is known as an mk18. You should check out the armor packages for those old mk48 power unit.

      well I did mention that it is turbocharged plus I'm staring right at it when I lift the hatch lol. I do believe that this 8v92TA has the blower but I didn't look close enough.

      I haven't heard of the bigger detroits ever running without the supercharger as all of them were factory they needed them to run so yes its most definitely supercharged without them the didn't get enough air induction so usually a non turbo detroit is considered naturally aspirated due to the superchargers being a necessity

    • @BikerDash
      @BikerDash 5 лет назад

      @@manbowv8 Yes, the engine is supercharged. I've worked on a few of them trucks when I was in (91-95)

      Most of the 8V-92/DD-92 Detroits used in the older MK/MKR/HEMTT/HET Trucks were Twin Turbo in their Timeline,some Variants had both a Supercharger or Turbo,some even being just Supercharged,and very few came as Single Turbo.After 2003,they all normally come with Twin Turbo,unless it was modified in Service or Rebuilt.It happens more often than anyone thinks.Hell,they now use Caterpillar Engines,not Detroits anymore.

    • @veteransdieselgarage7607

      It’s not a supercharger when it’s on a 2 stroke diesel, it’s a scavenging air pump for intake air as this engine is not designed with any intake valves in the cylinder heads. This is 1930’s technology and it’s awesome as the first detroits we’re being built then. It only became a supercharger in later years when drag racing became more popular and people started mounting GM blowers to gas engines to make big forced induction horsepower, completely experimental. This engine can be thanked for the introduction of forced induction

      Also, the flatbed with material handling crane was the Mk17 (48/17) and the wrecker was the Mk15 (48/15).

    Gotta love these trucks...
    They corner like a rat wearing Reeboks, as long as the motion control valve is in good working order. Problem is, that item is often not working correctly. Still a better truck than the Hemmit. That articulation makes for a world of difference.

    • @Slim_Slid
      @Slim_Slid 5 лет назад

      The MK is literally a HEMTT...They call it a MK just because of some of the Options it's Equipped with in the Navy Seabees and Marine Corps.Just like how Deuce & A Halfs and 5 Ton Trucks have Lockers in the Marine Corps or Navy Seabees while the Army doesn't.Each Branch has different Features on their Vehicles.

      Lmao,the 8V-92 is a 2 Stroke,the Series 60 11.1L and 12.7L is a 4 Stroke,and the 6.2L and 6.5L V8 is a 4 Stroke as well as the 8.2L.

    do you need a cdl to drive it??

    • @Slim_Slid
      @Slim_Slid 5 лет назад

      @Chad Wheeler Lol,you actually don't,if you personally own one of these trucks without it being in commercial use,you can own them,registering them as a Antique or a Private Vehicle is a different scenario.If that was true what you said,then I'd be illegally driving both my Deuce & A Half and 5 Ton Trucks.

    • @Slim_Slid
      @Slim_Slid 5 лет назад

      @Chad Wheeler The 5 Ton Trucks from 1951-1969 were Air-Over Brakes,that's your M39 Series,which were available with a Gas Job,Mack Engine,and Multi-Fuel during their Production.The 5 Ton Trucks from 1969-1982 were Air Assisted Brakes,that's the M809 Series with the Fourteen Liter Cummins.Then the 5 Ton Trucks from 1982-1994 had Air Brakes,with Air Dryers and Self Bleeding Valves,no ABS,and were known for having locked up Brakes if you didn't drain the Air Tanks once every two weeks.That's the M939 Series,which had the 250 Cummins like the M809's or 6CTA Turbocharged.The Deuce & A Half as in the old M35A2 and M185/M109A3 have Drum/Hydraulic Brakes that you often have to Grease the Axles and the Boots because they heat up from contact and pressure.They are no different from other Medium Duty Trucks.Those Variants have a Air Brake Outlet for a Trailer,versa a M105A2,Water Buffalo,or even a 3 Ton Trailer.The Deuce like the M35A3 and M109A4 have Air Brakes.

      @Chad Wheeler Wasn't being a smartass with you,I just was listing the differences each Series of truck had even though being in the same Category.These trucks as you know are complicated and things have to be learned carefully.Thank you for your Service.

      @Chad Wheeler Just support...I never Served.I was disqualified on my way into the Military because of being diagnosed with Inflammatory Arthritis.I've been fighting very hard for awhile now to see recovery,which has failed a few times.I was injured during my time in High School in Football as a Quarterback which actually evolved into the problem,even though I had treatment and x-rays and everything was going ok until after Graduation.By all means,I'm just a Civlian,my Grandfather was a Navy Seabee during World War ll and my Uncle was a Marine in World War ll also,I have a Step-Dad who was in the Army during Desert Storm.I spent one of my jobs at a Lot where we had lots of older and retired Medium-Heavy Trucks and alot of them at the same time were Military Trucks,we sold most of them,sometimes repaired them,and even at times customized them,I bought and own a fleet of these trucks as well and I use them for certain kinds of work and even in extreme situations.I was in Houston for six days during Hurricane Harvey with my M925A2 5 Ton rescuing survivors and removing objects with my Winch that was blocking paths and roads.Just about as "Military" as I've gotten.The guy who ran the shop where we had those trucks in the lot ran it as a Family business,he had a Divorce with his Wife and the run got shut down,I ended taking all of the equipment and parts that was left behind as well as items and other objects I could use before the Property went up for sale.I then had a job operating a Forklift at a Truck Yard where they had semis and Military Trucks sitting around for parts,unless you had enough cash to take a remaining truck home.And in fact,we had alot of 15 Ton Trucks to like HET's,most of the time,still running and top notch.Other than that,I just run my own fleet here and there buying and selling while doing jobs if people call me.I've been struggling with getting employed again since jobs don't like treating Disability around here,and I've been denied a couple times already.

      @Chad Wheeler Alot of my trucks are former Marine Corps,which have Differential Lockers.The Navy and Marines always have their trucks come Equipped with them,the Army doesn't except for the 15 Ton Trucks.And the 5 Ton Trucks now are a Family instead of a Series along with the 2 1/2 Ton,the LMTV and MTV are both built by Stewart and Stevenson and have Caterpillar Engines.One of my trucks is a M1078 LMTV with the 3116,they used the 3116 just like the M35A3 did before using the 3126 and currently the C7.I haven't owned a MTV like a M1084 or M1088,I don't think they're exactly public for the Market just yet.I have been around the 84 and 88 a few times at Camp Mabry in Austin Texas.They are a 6×6 and the LMTV is a 4×4,that's the only difference.And the Navy and Marines no longer use 5 Ton Trucks,they use 7 Ton MTVR's from Oshkosh just like the 15 Ton Trucks,also being Caterpillar Powered.
      The 15 Ton Trucks both for Army,Navy,and Marine Corps now use Caterpillar Engines,they no longer use 2 Stroke Detroit Engines,and they pack alot of Power.The MKR/MK/HEMTT use the C15 6NZ with 575 HP and 2,700 Torque while the M1070 itself use the C18 with 800 HP and 4,000 Torque.
      Ever since Mercedes Benz bought Detroit Diesel,the Military has repowered most of their Trucks with Caterpillar.Cummins is a rare bird now since older trucks,more likely in Reservation,use them,and the HMMWV is being replaced with the Oshkosh JLTV having a Duramax.The HMMWV's all used Detroits in them.And the M113's are Detroit also.

      Way off.The 8V-92 in the MK/MKR/HEMTT Trucks is 500 HP and 1,470 Torque just like in the HET.And that's now for the older Variants or ones not being Rebuilt.The MKR/PLS/MK/HEMTT's now use a 575 HP C15 6NZ Caterpillar while the M1070 uses a C18 running 800 HP.
