No matter how funny it was, but when defending Belgorod, the shells intercepted several packages of missiles from himars, 12 out of 12 shot down one S-1, this is of course just a lucky circumstance, but even so the Pantsir is one of the best air defense systems to cover a column of equipment, etc. In general, the USSR put a lot of money into the development of such systems, S-300, 2S6, OSA, BUK, etc.

One hit and you've killed the entire crew, destroyed the vehicle, obliterated the search radar and the tracking radar and damaged the the guns. All the eggs are in one basket. There is probably a way to pair two units to spare one crew but its a dam hard way to hide something. The Pantsir Missile itself is Automatic CLOS with the track radar tracking both the outgoing missile and target and sending radio commands. While an accurate system it seems to lack the accuracy to hit the HIMARS/GMLRS missile. It's cheap but its telling that the Israeli Iron Dome that is focused on cost effective intercepts doesn't use this system. There is no western system like it. We don't think its a good idea. It also uses a two stage missile so the civilians in the area will have a Mach 2 booster raining down on their house.

The Panzir works as mobile air defense for infantry, It trundles along protecting the troops, the tanks and itself. And it can of course work as point defense. But it will normally work within a air defense umbrella with S300, S400 and S550 systems which all share information. This is not a stand alone system. None of the Russian systems are. And the totality of the Russian air defence is unparallelled.

It isn't accurate. It is a typical Russian design with an overkill of canons and missiles to achieve an elacceptable kill rate against inferior enemies. Same as the Tunguska is/was. It isn't harmless, but is not the threat Ruzzia wants it to be, especially against well prepared sorties of modern Western aircraft.
