- The Audi RS5 was nearly overshadowed by the sportier E92 M3 and rowdier C63 AMG. However, the Audi may very well be the jack of all trades that you need in your collection. Everyday, all weather functionality and a V8 revving to 8,250 RPM. Let's go for a drive.
These are definitely going to start increasing in price within a few years. Such a special engine paired with a beautiful, timeless car.
They are not...gas prices are going way up and everyone switches to electric...so petrol cars are going to die and everyone is selling them as fast as possible to gain more money, so in few years you will be able to get one way cheaper
Nah, people keep these only until they realize they can't afford the maintenance or repairs. $10k on a timing belt job. I nearly pulled the trigger on one one and found that it was in the shop.
I soon realized that this wasn't a one off.
@@mightymulatto3000timing belt? That’s not a non issue for this engine. You must be talking cars that are abused and at least 150k + miles
@@unlaboredflawlessness3 Meant to say timing chain. One pays to play with these cars. That's for sure.
@@mightymulatto3000 well duh if you’re buying this car better have money or make sure the car has been fully up to date on maintenance. Brakes on these cars are like 3,500 and trans fluid flush about 2k.
I had a C63 W204 and a RS5 B8.
And if someone would ask me what to get : C63 W204, RS5 B8 , M3 E92 .... i'd say get all three. They are so completely different ... as different as it gets. If you get a normal 3 Series/A5/C-Class ... they all drive pretty much the same, you have a 3L TDI/Petrol engine, you can get the BMW and Audi as manual ... well, they just drive.
But then theres the differences between the performance cars, 2 high revving V8s, one super torqie classic v8, a manual option, a "smoother" automatic option and a batshit insane gear banging lightning fast devil gearbox that does not upshift and bang the rev limiter all day if put in manual mode. Two screamers and a absolutely brutal asphalt tearing machine that scares people at start up.
The C63 looks mind boggling agressive as a facelifted coupe
The RS5 looks very very luxurious and elegant while still sporty and that retractable spoiler is just the cherry on the top
The M3 looks plain like a sportscar with really nice tailpipes and looks even better slammed.
The C63 interior is "decent" but boring, the tachometer is the problem which makes it look very dated and the cheap ass c-class interior of the W204 is not something that you would expect in the C63.
The RS5 is just ... can't do it better. From the seats, onto the carbon, the valve exhaust, the middle console, the general quality and how well everything looks and feels. The thick steering wheel, everywhere rs badges, the mmi system, even the carbon engine cover. I had a normal A5 coupe before and hell this is not comparable, like the interior is not even remotely close to a normal A5. This is the only car where you don't feel like its a pimped regular car but you are driving a completely different car. Its the only car where i ever felt sitting like in a figher jet cockpit.
The M3 on the other hand ... the seats are a joke, the interior is together with the E60 series the worst i have ever sat in a premium car. It looks just 1:1 like a normal 3-Series
The C63 performance is out of this world for what it is. This thing is so quick ... its unbelievable. The Sound is just not to beat. Theres nothing that sounds like this. Many people say the best sounding car is the Lexus LFA / E60 M5 / some exotics.... but dude if you are into deep rumbling agressive sound instead of those high pitched racecar sounds ... theres literally nothing that makes your belly drum like this. The difference between a american v8 like in the mustang and the c63 v8 is, you can hear the mustang and its rumble, but when you ever heard a c63 step on the gas it hammers in your stomach so hard that you can almost feel the engine combustion going on. It fires so uneven but also even at the same time that its a symphony.
The RS5 is a snail, but with a JHM tune and pretty much any exhaust mod for 900$ it sounds like either a racecar (saying it sounds "like" a racecar is a understatement because it sounds even more racy than a racecar due to 9200 rpm) or like a exotic ... (maserati, 488 etc).
The E92 M3 ... sounds always really good, is even more snail than the RS5 but it simply drives so dynamic that the other two wont come close.
The E92 M3 is the best car until you meet a E60 M5 at the lights, the RS5 is the best car until you hear a C63 stomp the gas in front of you, the C63 is the best car until you drive a RS5 in not perfect weather conditions.
Quality comment my guy just pure quality
I own a 2015 rs5 love it to bits. I will probably own a second one if i can find a mint blue over white (mine is misano pearl metallic) and i probably will own a c63 at one point
Great comment, thank you for taking the time to type that :D
Just purchased a 2013 RS5 and I am not disappointed. It makes me smile every time I drive it. I want to do a resonator delete, but I like the way it sounds as is.
Congrats! The car in the video has a capristo resonated system on it, sounds fantastic. A much cheaper solution that also sounds insane is an x pipe from ecs. Luckily I bought the car and the capristo was a nice little suprise.
Yea the caprisco sounds awesome but sadly over £ 4k. 😢
Just got my 2014 RS5 last month (58k miles) Already got a $2000 bill for the thermostat/water-pump 🥲🤣. But I love her regardless ❤.
I’m starting a gofundme for Rohana wheels/summer tires, a capristo exhaust, & satin black wrap/chrome delete. HMU for the link 🙏🏼🤣
For someone who only drove this once you seemed to get it spot on with the review. I owned the manual 2008 S5 4.2 for 5 years and loved it. Slowly started to crave the ultimate version of it over the years and ended up finding a 30k mile one out of state which I happily pulled the trigger on. The way I’d summarize this car is that it’s the ultimate apex predator for the everyday road. Not meant to be a race car but the dual clutch makes it such a special experience. The sound. The looks. The presence. The class. It has it all. Mine has ceramic brakes so I’d say so far that’s the most expensive maintenance item(nearly $6k for OEM rotors). These direct injection V8’s also need carbon cleaning once in a while which is about a $600 job so nothing too bad.
The engine is so good because it’s 4/5ths the V10 Audi shares with Lamborghini, it’s a special engine and a special car, it’s my dream car!
I have a 2015 in misano its an amazing car no other audi of this gen can compare aside from the r8 v10
I just got a 2015 RS5 with 40,000km on the clock in sepang blue. It's the most amazing car I've ever driven.
I just bought one with 33k miles also sepang blue!! Its a 13’ though.
@@avasquez8799 congratulations mate. What a car!
This is my first time coming across your channel. Not going to lie, as a fellow american I've been feeling a little let down by U.S. Car Reviewers lately, but you've given me hope. Keep it up, brother!
That’s very kind James, thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed it.
Thanks for the review that made me totally happy. I totally agree with your vehicle review. I've been driving the RS4 B8 for over 3 years, with the identical color as this RS5, but as a Plus variant with true 280 mph and ceramic front brakes and an HMS sport exhaust system. What is forget to mention is the most beautiful engine ever built by Audi.
I got one while i could. Never letting her go.
I literally just purchased thus exact spec. 13’ RS5 Sepang Blue Pearl effect. 33k miles on it 🤯
Congrats, enjoy it. Throw a capristo resonated exhaust on it, which is the one in the video and the car will sound incredible.
I just saw one of these at a stop light and that engine sounded heavy ! Now i want one.
I miss my 2014 RS5…I still remember the day picked her up at the dealership brand new!
Nice video, definitely encouraged me to hold on to mine, The B8.5 RS5 is the best car 8 have ever owned 😊
Thanks for the video. I owned one 2 years ago same colour and i fell in love with it. I still would like to get another but even in the UK 🇬🇧 the parts and running costs are very high. It is a truly outstanding piece of engineering this car
Just picked up a MINT 2015 RS5. I had a 2010 S5 prestige back in the day, and I’m so pumped to get the B8.5 NA V8 baby!
I want the cabriolet version of this. I had an RS4 and regret selling it every day…. That engine is such a piece of automotive engineering art and that gearbox is a gem
L
That Audi grille too. Fking delicious. The newer models lack style.
Great review! Looking at things from a different angle to other journalists. Previous to owning my rs5 id only experienced manuals, and i have alot of fun in the dual clutch, it always puts a smile on my face.. those down shifts 😍
Can’t believe I own one. Was looking for the C63 but came across this and went for it. So glad I did. It’s a pleasure to drive!
Wow. Such a great review! My man is professional.
Thanks Chris! 🤙🏼
Great review man! Love seeing fresh B8.5 RS5 content. One thing I did to mine which is a MUST is the JHM tune and resonator delete
Thanks! How much of a difference does the JHM tune make?
@@BuzzytheBlue I wouldn’t drive it without! Launches at 6000 RPM and raises the limiter to 9200 RPM. Also makes up for low end torque
9200 is absolutely insane. They can actually do that without eventual consequences?
@@BuzzytheBlue so far so good! Lots of people have been running the tune for years with no issues
This is my car in the video, I'm thinking about it. Part of me wants to keep it original though, only mod is a capristo catback that came with the car.
Been looking for a RS5 for awhile now. Bit more kilometers goes about 44 thousand euros atm (46 roughly on Dollars). But there is a one 2014 with 75tkm and it costs 48 thousand. Looks so good.
Imagine driving this thing on german Autobahn without Speedlimits! i drive just an 204hp A4 quattro, but its like build for Autobahn, so great fun to drive
68K on mine now. Big $$$ for service and some repairs over the years. And the COST of BRAKES!! OMG.
But every time I think of selling it, I change my mind as soon as I drive it. The sound inside and outside is just heaven.
10 years ago, all it took was a curved on-ramp and a quick trip to triple digits, and I left my TT at the dealer that day and drove off in a Sepang blue one.
I own the car in the video, I am at 56k miles now. Do you mind if I ask what went wrong with yours?
@@joesisti4841 Mostly just some expensive wear and tear and services... 7yr service (at 59K for me) was $1400, new battery at 62K, front rotors (not ceramic!) and pads are $4K for OEM. Went with Girodiscs for $2K. Rear brakes were $1600 in 2020 at 56K. That one also had service, Michelin tires, Bilstein shocks, Control Arm & Bushings for a total of $7K incl. the rear brakes. At 52K the engine thermostat and crank case vents set me back $1400 after check engine light came on. 2019 with 51K service was $1400. before that I had AudiCare and no major issue. Except when I tracked it in Fontana around 2016, the OEM pads are too soft to handle the heat and glazed over my rotors. Audi Dealer wouldn't replace on warranty so I haven't been to that place since. Also been on EBC red (or yellow?) stuff or Brembo pads since.
My boss just bought one and I’m absolutely obsessed, such a ridiculous sounding car.
Great review, I'm fortunate enough to own both this car and the E92 M3. Everything you said is spot on with both. They really are both extremely special, don't think I can sell either one lol.
Thank you! And wow, what a setup. I’m jealous haha! Great to hear from someone with both.
Can you do a video with just the sounds please? Your recording quality and mic placement is excellent!
I’ll have to find another one to record but I’d love to if the opportunity arises! Thanks!
Man these reviews are something else they are great u neeed more subs man your vids are killer and the quality is insane
Thanks for saying that man, I really appreciate it.
These price of these RS5’s have a bit to fall yet in the UK I think but as we head faster and faster towards complete electrification I could see the RS increase in price. Not to be used as a daily but a special occasion weekend drive. Great review!
Thank you! I think they’ve hit the bottom here in the States for a well looked after one with decent miles. Value has been pretty consistent here for quite a few years I’d say. Good sign for those looking to hold on and keep enjoying them.
The scenery in your review looked amazing! I’d love to drive an RS on your roads…maybe one day 🤔
Great appreciation review. Unfortunately these reviews continue to drive up the price of these beasts lol. In Canada the RS5 is already on par/more price wise than the M3 from a quick search. Good luck everyone lol.
It seems almost any interesting cars are on the way up honestly. Beyond the RS5 even, it seems like a good time to decide on what you want to own and try to get it before it all goes stratospheric. It happened to me with E60 M5 manuals, almost bought one twice and now they’re huge $$.
And thanks!
@@BuzzytheBlue Spot on! The N/A V8s are a dream. I only have the Lexus GS460, and that was my first introduction to a V8. You’re a good man for passing up a manual M5!!
YES FINALLY a great NAV8 RS5 Video...... So Needed. The B9 is the worst. Not sure you comment this is a DSG car. Please clarify? just not the new version?
Thanks! And yes this is a DCT car, I simply meant that it’s not quite as responsive as the newest dual clutches found in brand new vehicles. Still extremely impressive and fun to use though.
This video has made me think the RS5 V8 is for me.
Audi Rs5
Bentley continental gt
Ford mustang 5.0
Jaguar 5.0
well done review of a special car
Thanks Randy 👍
Great review!
Thank you!
i was thinking about getting one of these
Awesome review! Always thought these seemed a bit overpriced compared to the S5 for what you get but you may have changed my mind
Thanks man! The 4.2 S5 is probably the right car for 95% of people that just want a quick, good looking, V8 Audi. However, I think I’d get used to an S5 very quickly, where the RS will always be more of an event to drive.
With the 4-wheel drive, it's a lot less likely to end up in the weeds
Is the v8 better than the new bi turbo v6? Mechanically and sound wise and how about the drive?
Mechanically the engine of the V8 car is a marvel, built from the R8s V10 and not in any other audi model of that time period (other than the RS4 which is the wagon variant of this car). The B9s V6 turbo doesn't sound anywhere near as good, the early ones have rocker arm failures, and they don't even get great fuel economy. The worst part is that that motor is in so many different cars like the s6 s7 porsche panamera and macan that it loses its special-Ness. Instead of developing a bespoke engine specifically for a 2 door sports coupe it's as if they just said "this will fit" and that was the end of it.
How did you like it compared to the s4 tuned you reviewed? I've seen a few guys switch from rs5 to s5/s4 same years because of power potential. Although that v8 sounds great!
Put simply, S4 for performance per dollar and RS5 for the experience/cool factor. That S4 with some very simple mods was substantially faster than an RS5. I’d be hard pressed to pick one but it’d probably be the RS5 for me personally just for the sensation of winding out that 4.2
@@BuzzytheBlue your reviews are as detailed as your responses. Thanks man. If I could follow you twice I would haha.
@@Ryndel Really appreciate that man, glad you enjoy them!
Owner of the RS5 here, if you want all out power get the s4/s5. They are also a bit more reliable, and parts are much cheaper since that motor was used in like 10 different platforms. If you want something really rare and really special, RS5 all day. I've had that car since October and I've only seen 1 other one on the road which was a convertible, where I see at least 1 s4/5 a day. I've also seen maybe 10 new rs5s since I got it. Additionally if you want a stick, s4/5 is your only option. Keep in mind the 3.0t cars hold their value really well despite their numbers because of the power they can make, and most on the used market are either modded, high mileage, or both. Keep in mind that a lower mileage (50k) s4 isn't that much cheaper than an RS5, and with full stage 2 mods you would probably be at the same price point. If its your only car, go v6 as consumables on the rs models are ridiculous. Think 3k for front brakes and 2k for rears ridiculous (if you go through the stealership). Plus carbon cleanings, sport diff and trans services, and its definitely am expensive car to own. (Although some of these services apply to the 3.0 cars too)
@joesisti4841 appreciate your first hand experience thanks for taking the time to reply man!
I seen one of these on the freeway the way it farted on the upshift made me fall in love😅
Very nice video and an amazing car.
Thank you!
Thanks!
If you want almost the same car, but with a manual, get the B7 RS4. 30 less HP, about the same TQ, and a very strong transaxle. Arguably, the BNS engine in the RS4 may actually sound better than the CFSA in the RS5. I've owned both and honestly, I can't choose a favorite. They're both awesome in their own ways. If they were languages, the RS4 is more guttural, like German or Cyrillic, whereas the RS5 sounds more like French or Spanish. Rottweiller vs Belgian Malinois. you get the idea.
If I had to choose one to own forever, I think I'd have to go with the RS5. Mainly because I'm getting older, and my knee doesn't like the clutch in the RS4. =/
Also, the RS5 is, admittedly, prettier.
COULD NOT AGREE MORE WITH YOU. I currently own both 1) RS5 b8.5 is abeautiful refined sporty gem, 2) rs4 b7 is a refined rally car.
3) RS4 is way more fun and engaging (hydraulic steering for RS4 VS electric of the RS5 ) 4) RS5 does not communicate much and is a bot more distant from the road.
I tracked both once and drive them often in mountains.
What mic r u using ?
DJI mic
@@BuzzytheBlue thanks 😌
Best Audi ‘
man im trusting you im going to get this car i hope the test drive goes well and i actually like it or if i even fit in this shi. im trading in my 2016 535 xi
Definitely gonna be smaller inside than your F10 but it’s not small by any means. Hope you like it!
Question for you owners. The thing that scares me is maintenance. From a RUclips I watched the 4.2 needs the engine out for: timing chains, water pump, cat replacement. That's nonsense. Things that will have to be done need the engine removed. The cost will be very high unless you can DIY. I understand the engine bay is so tight but come on Audi.
I love my 14' RS5 21,000 miles Mercedes seem to go a bit out of style this car will only get better with time, just saying.
Love the car, wish the torque was higher.
WOW
paid 5k euros to get completely new brake pads and discs, not ceramic, for my 2013 rs4 avant
Gallardo/R8 engine cast less 2 pistons!!😊🇨🇦
how much is the maintenance though 😂
On par or better than most of its competitors at the time I’d say. Definitely less big dollar items than an M3.
Before you buy it make sure you check how much the brakes cost 😂
How bad is it was debating buying one
@@MotoMissionaries £2500 for all four corners. That’s $3000. As I did more research other bits and pieces seemed to cost pretty much similar to a R8 v8/v10. If you can afford it I would recommend upgrading to the R8. When I done a comparison the e92 M3 was much cheaper to service and maintain. The RS5 is a really nice car, but if you can’t afford to maintain it and you don’t have a warranty it could be a very expensive endeavour which also explains why they have depreciated a lot.
That’s why people get rid of them when it’s time to do servicing any rs car the brakes are like 2k 3k🤣🤦🏻♂️
These 2016 audi rs5 are very cheap used I'm looking at one with 69,000 miles for $18,000 why is that even a low miles 2013-2020 toyota Corolla goes for more money
That seems almost “red-flag” level low price. Gotta be something up with it.
I'm very sure I seen a 6 speed manual 2013 rs5 for sale
They never made stick RS5s from the factory, it would've have to have been swapped, or more likely an S5 that was upbadged
@@joesisti4841 yea your correct. Lol I just started looking at the rs5
