Despite FF7 Rebirth being a wonderful video game, it had plenty of things going against it… 1. A sequel to a remake trilogy, confusing for casuals.. 2. PS5 only release and missing out on that big PC market.. 3. $70 cost and everything in general has only gotten more expensive since the pandemic.

Personally I think the marketing was the worst thing. They should kinda do what FFXV did, the marketing was everywhere and having shows or other media/ways in showing the game always helps out. XV had an anime, other game shows like fallout also helped in those respective series.
Rebirth literally wasn't advertised enough. And personally don't think making it multiplatform would help much since Xbox known to do bad for jrpg games and for PC pirating is an issue. Spiderman 2 was ps5 exclusive but still sold amazingly well.

And don’t forget 4. Fundamentally retcons the original masterpiece into Kingdom Hearts levels of convoluted nonsense.

Really appreciate that you list your sources, @CuriousCorduroy.
I was looking for one of your previous vids where you posted S.E.'s slides from their recent press release (or maybe it was for a business meeting?) I guessed this video (not the one I was looking for haha) and noticed that you also posted your sources in the description here too.
Truly above and beyond in addition to always being a joy to listen to your thoughts on each topic.
Speaking of those business slides, I'm really surprised I haven't heard more people talk about the uplifting and promising aspects of what S.E. lined out as their goals / purpose in that.
I'll comment on that in your other recent video once I find it haha. As always, you're content is excellent.

The one thing I'm worried about with Square Enix trying to hit multiple platforms in one release is that they tend to still have performance issues and bugs even just focusing on the PlayStation Console alone. Having them hit multiple platforms I hope gets them to dial back their scale or at least refine their releases to show up more refined on release.

I think that this push doesn't apply to part 3 it will go multiple but not until after it launches on PS5 first. Contract obligations are probably the reason and I find it hard to think that they would put the beginning of their multiplat push on the shoulders of part 3. Especially when it's budget has probably already been allocated.
    FF 17, kh4 are a different story

It’s more or less because even though the PS5 is a decent console, it was limited to an audience. The PS4 had a bigger audience, it was affordable and did not run into issues that the PS5 had run into with Covid, scalpers, and limited supply. By those means, it was obvious they weren’t going to hit those sales expectations through exclusivity. If they would release their games on pc along with the PS5. The games would have easily hit those numbers. Epic game store is also a death sentence to a lot of games.

They have always had too high sales expectations it was always unrealistic

The ps5 alone wont cut it. And the fact that people struggled to get one should have been an eye opener for them

No shot 7 R part 3 launches multiplatform. Sony locked up all 3 parts without a doubt. This will affect maybe kingdom hearts 4 and anything going forward after Part 3

If you look at the actual documents, FF16 did excellent for a FF game.
Not only did it sell well (and will sell more on PC soon), but it also very importantly attracted lots of different demographics, including tons of people new to Final Fantasy. Rebirth on the other hand is an unmitigated disaster. It's a good game, but it really only attracted people loyal to the remake franchise, which is a very tiny demographics for a game that cost this much to make. I'm expecting part 3 to be vastly reduced in scope.

Well that’s what happens when you release a video game in only one platform , like wtf what they did expect?

IMO making a trilogy out of game was unrealistic. Then dragging it out for over a decade before completion.

The first thing that would've been talked about during negotiations with sony in regards to the remake project, is its budget [across each game]. Part 3's already being worked on, its coming.

alot of ppl need to realize during COVID-18 there were many deaths and millions of FF gamers have died around the world approxamately 455 million gamers have died during COVID18 so its gotta have some impact on the sales , ps4 is still the superior market and majority of ppl will just simply wait it out for rebirth to hit ps4 and not bother with ps5 version

While covid is something that more people should have taken seriously, we did not lose nearly half a billion people to it.

    • @JayRhea
      @JayRhea Месяц назад

Furthermore, COVID is a scapegoat for poor choices in development and distribution. For years console exclusivity has been slowly killing game companies in a bid thinking that these console companies have some magical crystal ball that, in the time of a global pandemic and consumerism worldwide not matching the reality of high prices and low pay, think that people will fork over $500-$600 for a new system then another $70-$100 for a single game. Real world pockets don't work like that with the rising prices for rent/mortgage, food, clothes, and necessary utilities taking precedence over the "pleasure" of gaming. SE took a heroic swig of the kool-aid that Sony gave them thinking FF7R and Rebirth would be this massive system seller and all would be good. Flash forward to today where out of 118 million registered PS network users are still on PS4 and haven't upgraded to the PS5 because having a roof over their head or food on the table is worth more than the reimagined adventures of the FFVII crew, the numerous gacha bs games, or rushed products that end up trash lije Foresaken. FF7R should have either come out as a trilogy from the jump for PS4 (with the option to upgrade if/when a PS5 was bought in the household) while developing a PS5 upgrade and PC port to come out a year after, or release the three in successive years to the consoles with PC ports coming 6 months after. That's also not taking into account FFXVI being PS5 exclusive instead of having been released parallel on PC. Putting that game on shelves and *hoping* it sells well for a PC port was stupid since, with the popularity of mainline FF games, it was going to sell well and could have only doubled the revenue instead of stonewalling on a console not everyone can afford just for one game.

Square enix sucks. Nojima, Nomura, Toriyama, and Kitase are the ones who were behind Rebirth and Remake and both sucked. And innocent people in the west get fired? Yea never buying from sqex again. Now that's biased. Those 4 know Square won't fire em cuz it's extremely difficult to fire someone in Japan. Stupid company.
