I just want to say, the amount of hard work you do by yourself is inspiring. Seriously, you work like a Trojan! Good on you girl. The skills you've learned and put into practice is fantastic. We're a bit older than you two and we've never been scared of hard work, but it's so great to see the hard work end enthusiasm you're putting into this and I'm pretty sure it's because you love it, and it's been your dream. Hello Harriet l watch you and hubby and your darling dog but don’t comment very often! Full of admiration for the hard work you do and not afraid to try anything! We grow our own vegetables and it’s s fight against weather birds and pests but nothing tastes as good as your own! We are in Spain at the moment at our holiday home which is quite near Gibraltar! Your place reminds me of my grandma's farm in Europe when I was small. I did this some, resigned from work and now enjoying my life. Is wonderful life in the garden. Your video is beautiful and so easy to watch. Yes I need to go and cut my grass too =)
Hi Harriet! The newly-hatched chick is heartbreakingly beautiful, and watching its transformation is inspiring! The helplessness of the kittens makes my stomach go wobbly, and your care for them is so tender. The goats are magnificent creatures -- I hope they work out for you.
With chicks you should put marbles or stones into the water dish so they don't drown, but to introduce them to water dip their beaks in, same with feed xxx
I once tried keeping a goat in with a three-wire electric fence. She figured out that she could jump through between the top and second wires -- because she was not touching the ground as she jumped through, she didn't get shocked. So, the fence ended up being an indication of where I wanted her to be, and when she felt congenial she'd stay behind, when she was feisty she'd jump through then go climb around on the car or the root cellar roof or eat something precious to get a rise out of me. She was a lot of fun despite these issues. 🙂

I love watching the strimming "peeling back", I think of how much matter you are adding to the land so its fertility will increase. Congratulations on all your fur and feather family members. My little chihuahua jumped out of bed to check out the kits, fun watching his reactions. i love your goats ❤
At least the goats are relatively docile, which makes life easier. They're so pretty with that colouring. I once again learned more about dealing with cats, goats, fencing and how much work is involved. I agree with you on keeping things much simpler, breeding the goats can wait.

Aw thank you!! Yeah the incubator is supposed to turn the eggs. I'm not sure what we did wrong here. Maybe just bad luck or maybe we didn't keep close enough eye on the humidity. Hoping to catch a broody hen next time!
I love the new chick Harriet, we just seem to have lots of ducklings this spring. We've joined you with the kittens, we have had 7 born. First lot are now 3 weeks old and then the next lot, 2 tabbies, one grey and one black arrived two nights ago. Same as your situation, Mum is young and we were only saying we needed to book her in. Too late! Ah well, they can all go together to the vet and get sorted. You work so hard, but its all looking great. Love watching your vlogs. The goats are gorgeous.

NO DEJES la alberca seca es un problema se rajara te lo aseguro no se pueden dejar sin agua yo lo aprendi a las malas y luego tuve que repararla y cuando pregunte a los mayores de la zona me di cuenta que es algo que la gente de campo sabe jejeje suerte con las cabras yo tuve pero ahora forman parte de mi es lo que tiene ser carnivoro un abrazo

Stick the grounding rods farther apart, like 3m between them. When you have a permanent fence use mesh for the bottom part and use that for ground. The extra contact means pouring water on them is no longer needed for conductivity. I do the same here on dry sandy soil.

I hope those small trees within the goat enclosure aren't anything you want to keep. I'm sure they will destroy them. Goats are good for many reasons , and eating anything is one of those reasons. There meat is normally very lean, there milk makes great cheese and there milk is nice, As well and there pelts can be made into things as well. An all round animal. I wish I had some.. Been summer now will that water catchment tank refill.?? Your doing great Harriet.
Thank you! Hahah those trees are wild pears, they spread like crazy and the goats are very welcome to destroy them! RE the water tank. I've shut it off because I'm not growing in that terrace but it could refill if I wanted it to. Water here is from a spring which flows all year round.

Pensé que con una taza, cualquier persona podría venir a cuidar la cabras y usar la taza y no importaría si yo no estuviera allí pero tienes razón que es muy molesto tener que llevar la taza en la mano.

I used to like strimming, but in our new (old home) three scythes have been left by the previous owner and I am tempted to try them out as I am not too keen on the noise that petrol strimmers make anymore. The ground is overgrown and uneven and It could be a trip hazard, but wish me luck. I hope I don't cut my toes off!!!! Do you have experience with them?
That's so cool, I'd really love to try and use a scythe. I haven't had any experience with one, no. I hear the key is to keep them very sharp. Like, sharpening every few swipes!

What do you mean? Most breeds of chickens these days have been bred to not "sit", which means they will not incubate their own eggs. It is very common to use an incubator to mimic the warmth and humidity of the sitting mother. Maybe don't watch homesteading channels if you don't like seeing humans interact with the life cycle of animals 🤷♀️

Prefer when the animals are treated with some other kind of love. But it is true that i see that rarely. It is only a critic considering human dealing with animals. Female hens have been known to eat their chicks, abandon them etc. I really don't think an incubator is in any way cruel or abhorrent. But we all have to make that personal decision, how do we choose to live and work with animals in a way that we believe gives us both a fair deal.

Usually there is no need to trim the wire for the mower to size. It cuts itself to length when using it. It smashes against the cover.
When it gets too long, it strains the motor and it won't hit rocks etc with enough force to cut it, as was the case here.
