  • Some more work on the Losi Baja Rey 4wd brushless electric truck project build. In stock form the Baja Rey is one of our favorite trucks to drive, but we’re building it up as a project so it’s an ultimate bash machine and show you some cool parts offered for the chassis along the way. In this video we’ll go over the parts that we are swapping out that make up the steering of the truck. We have put together a wide variety of parts that we think will boost the truck’s performance and durability to another level. This project build will span over a few videos and in each video we’ll provide links below to the products we used.

      @@rcdriver i sure will. It was your initial review of it that was the deciding factor...this or the UDR. So i went with the losi.

    @5:24 on my Hammer Rey, that plastic connecting rod was responsible for a lot of the steering play I was having. Replaced it with some random GPM part and it was night and day. The ball screws were having a lot of play in the plastic rod and that was from new, not wear and tear induced.

    Last night I installed a set of Exotek aluminum steering bell cranks in my Baja Rey V2, and unlike the Losi aluminum bell cranks, the bearings fit snugly with just a slight amount of finger pressure to push them in.

    I do love my Raptor Baja Rey but it's a real pain to work on. Luckily it's built well so I haven't had to do many repairs. You definitely need a power screwdriver to work on them! Another great video Greg 👍

    • @rcdriver
      @rcdriver  4 года назад +1

      Agreed, a power driver is a must for this beast!! 😀

    • @SebastianLong
      @SebastianLong 4 года назад +1

      Yep, the Baja and Rock Rey are probably some of the most durable RCs you can buy. Also they ARE a bear to work on. Moreso the Rock Rey than the Baja Rey, but both can be a pain in the butt.

  • @robbryan3044
    @robbryan3044 4 года назад

    Starting to look good. I still think you should have gone with the Exotek front bulkhead, as opposed to the HR unit...HR only goes work a larger bearing on one side, while the Exotek unit has larger bearings on both sides. As for the steering upgrades, I'm 100% with you. I also had a few minor "problems" building & installing the Losi machined steering bellcrank, but I got it together.
    Speaking of your BR upgrades...one you haven't mentioned, but might want to consider, is the Exotek Carbon Fiber Top Plate. At 2.5mm think, it's super strong, but also has just the right amount of "flex"...while being lighter than the stock aluminum plate. An added 'benefit' is that it will also help to lower the center of gravity. Considering my finished truck weighs approx 2lbs more than it did out-of-the-box, getting the CoG as low as possible is, obviously, important.
    Lastly...I can't remember whether, or not, you said you'd be relaxing the motor, but, in deciding what to go with, I had my choices narrowed down to a HH PP XL, and a Tekin ROC412 HD. As the Baja Rey isn't a 'crawler', and is designed to "go fast", the Tekin ROC412 HD was the winner. No pun intended, but it truly ROCks.

    Changed the servo saver and bell crank to the Losi alu that you're using too. One hit on the the left wheel and the arm on the servo saver was bent. It should've been solid aluminum instead of a hollow space in the arm. But sure, the Savöx servo is still intact....

    • @SebastianLong
      @SebastianLong 4 года назад

      It's better to have a "fuseable" link than destroying something more expensive. The servo arm is a little tough to get to though versus, say, a Traxxas Stampede. Lol.

      Greasing the wedge side of the steering rack will absorb shock to the servo . It reduces some steering precision but the servo will thank you. I use the exotek rack and it has performed well..

    One thing I found interesting about the BR is that AVC will actually burn up the analog servo that comes in it. I dont quite understand why they didnt just put a digital servo in for the AVC to work properly, especially for the price. I also noticed, even when turned off, the AVC is still very slightly on.

    • @johnruss9660
      @johnruss9660 2 года назад

      Some transmitters will inhibit AVC, meanwhile that doesn’t completely deactivate it from the vehicle/receiver.

    HI I am thinking about getting a baja rey is it a good investment?

    • @SebastianLong
      @SebastianLong 4 года назад

      It is a great platform. They do, like any other RC, has it's issues. They aren't major problems though. I bought for my brother the Rock Rey which is a lot of the same parts as the Baja Rey and it's rare he breaks it. I also have the Super Rock and Super Baja Rey versions which, if you ever decide to purchase, are just as durable. They are very well made for the price and if you are on the fence over getting one, I can promise you that it would be a bad decision not buying it.

  • @grumpyyerr
