The title track off Trivium’s eighth album was realised as a single on the 1st of August, 2017. It marks the return of harsh vocals (which were absent during Silence in the Snow) to the band’s music.
Lyrically, it is a first-person narrative in which the subject is condemned to death for his actions. The narrator accepts his death while accusing the ones who condemned him of being intolerant to different mentalities. Until the 19th century, those who opposed the doctrines imposed by the Catholic Church or other religious institution would be considered a herectic and would be sentenced to death.

The meaning of this song is in relation to Game of Thrones. The artists are big GoT fans, and in the show King Joeffrey was murdered (he was an ass so he deserved it) and his uncle Tyrion Lannister was blamed. Well Tyrions wife at the time betrayed him during his hearing and said that he was the one who killed the King when that is not the case and he was sentenced to death (which never happened). This is basically the meaning behind the sin and the sentenced. That's also what he means by "beware those who speak in tongues for they may call your name".
Trivium - Thrown into the fire. the heaviest song off of the same album as this one. my personal favorite.
The song is based off the witch hunts, and burning witches way back when. Condemning people cause they were different. Trivium is amazing, so is your reaction, keep it up

Epic masterpiece.
I've been a fan of Trivium since I was a junior, I'm 21 now. I do enjoy pretty much every album they have made, only one that is lesser is Silence in the Snow, and I can firmly say that this song and album is thier best work period.
I listened to Trivium in this order, Vengeance Falls, Ascendancy, Shogun, The Crusade, In Waves, Ember to Inferno, Silence in the Snow and Sin and the Sentence. Vengeance Falls got me into them and I felt every other album was better. I went through a period of only listening to first 4 albums. Hating that they were changing. The Sin and The Sentence got me back into them and it's because I think they have fully matured. I started to enjoy some of silence, in waves and Vengeance Falls and realized how immature that was of me. Now I plan to get a Trivium tattoo and will fuck with them to the grave. Three concerts and 4 t shirts so far and I'd do more like get the tattoo if I had more money, in time.
Gibby, I recommend the songs Vengeance Falls, Built To Fall, Throes of Perdition, Gunshot to the Head of Trepidation, Entrance to the Conflagration, Silence in the Snow, Other Worlds, and Ember to Inferno. Those are some of the best of Trivium songs and if you venture on your own throughout thier discography you will enjoy probably all of it. They changed alot in thier time and I hope they keep perfecting thier craft.

The song is from the perspective of someone who spoke out against the church in like the 1600s or 1700s I forget, and it was considered a crime to do so. The sin "speaking out against the church" and the sentence "death."
