I totally understand why you spent the money, really like the fact you are keeping it standard and giving it a new lease of life.
It's not strictly standard as it has the Challenge Stradale exhaust, Challenge Stradale rear valance and Challenge Stradale ECU.
The challenge rear grill is standard as it was a factory fit option, well it was on my 2004 car, but yes the exhaust is not a standard or factory fit option. Ferrari do now offer a new ICE head unit with a motorised screen.
Totally worth it. People overlook the importance of the feel of the interior of the car. It really impacts the driving experience. The price is crazy but it's a Ferrari. Porsche prices aren't much better, and I've spent a lot of money on my 911 over the last ten years chasing the same 'perfection'.
Porsche prices are certainly not much better but I don't think they have ever used the sh*ty soft touch coating that Ferrari or Maserati used, or have they?
🙄@UCssbYQv4EXkz%F0%9F%99%84uBzKE4ZWKaQ Porsche never suffered with Chinese chocolate buttons , i am surprised he has no gremlins in the electricals
@@MrJef06 Think everything plastic from that period had the same perishable coatings.
My recently sold 2001 Alfa was very similar with all the buttons and door trims getting that sticky feeling.
The 911’s from the same era (997 and 996) got sticky buttons especially on the climate control rocker switches. Fortunately not as far spreading as the 360!
@@quickmick6131 I’ve never had the sticky buttons in any of my Porsche cars from that era.
Loving the 360 restoration series this channel should have a million plus subscribers
It’s so nice to see a RUclipsr sharing their love and passion for an older classic car and their ownership journey with it.
It’s some of my favourite content on your channel Sam.
Be interesting to hear how much the paintwork is going to cost when you do it!! 💰 💰
Only someone who really loves their car would go this far. It's going to look immaculate for it's 20th birthday! 👌
only someone without a wife***
I really advise against a full respray. I recommend finding a good paint restoration guy that can paint and blend the damaged areas. Especially being in those wheel arches. Even if you have chips, a good restoration detail with touch up paint will be a huge improvement and still retain the factory paint. My .02
VW can scan your car and colour match to the faded paint. So there must be other independent people who can do the same
I agree
I get it Sam. It’s a key touch point. It would drive me mental every time I drove if it was my car..
It would ruin my experience. I'm impressed he let it go as long as he did.
@@benkrapf explain to your wife why you spent 4K euro on your Ferrari's BUTTONS; that'll go over great!
@@troystcyr3771 My wife would not care... She would spend more on a freaking handbag.....
As someone who has a very nice condition sports car from the '90s, I can tell you it's very important to do these types of things on a regular basis. When things wear out or get tired looking you need to replace or refurbish them. if you don't, within a few years the whole car starts to look tired and a bit neglected and it does affect your ownership of it. Things like chipped and scraped mag wheels are in your face every time you wash the car so you tend to do less cleaning and take less care because they are already a bit rough looking and cleaning won't really help. This of course means they slowly get even worse. It's a vicious cycle that just leads to needing a full or major restoration whereas a few bucks spent every month or two on the little things can keep it looking fresh and cool. This prompts you to be more careful when cleaning and driving it and so the car looks and drives better for longer.
That 993 GT really is a corker. I was fortunate enough to briefly drive a Midnight Blue example quite some years ago now. Money well spent on those sticky buttons. Collectively the work done has enhanced the car enormously. Please do keep the current wheels. Wishing STG many miles of happy motoring in his refreshed 360. Thank you.
I love the 360 content! It feels like an actual person experiencing owning their dream car and sharing that experience with the viewers. So many of these youtube channels feel like some billionaire flexing on us with the cars they have. This feels like what I think any of us "normal people" would experience owning our dream car. Keep it coming!!
From looking at the comments and my personal opinion, this is so worth the money. Interacting with DK engineering also gives an exclusive look into all sorts, such a cool place!
It's hard to understand doing anything but the bare minimum until you have something you genuinely care about and are proud of. Looks amazing!
Great insight into what it takes to keep a classic in top condition. As explained, the most expensive part of the work is the labour. Having worked on my own restoration I can appreciate the amount of time it takes to strip down and replace any part. Really useful video Sam.
Its great to see Sam is still owning and enjoying his car and restoring it! Rather than other youtubers constantly changing their “dream” cars with the same mod list to milk in youtube. Keep it up sam!
You could see the guy's passion as he was describing the work they'd done. I don't own a Ferrari but if I did DK Engineering is where I'd take it. Awesome job.
I worked at a Ferrari dealership in high school. It was quite common for clients to bring in their older cars to have the buttons replaced. Now, yes, it's a lot of money for buttons. It kind of feels gross reaching for A/C controls in 110ºF Texas weather and the buttons feel like they had Coca Cola poured all over them. As the direct point of contact with your vehicle, it truly makes a difference. Glad to see you're enjoying the 360 Sam, look forward to the completed restoration.
Sam, love the contact and passion for the 360. Bit of advise from someone who fully restored a few passion projects, IF you plan on using the car don't paint it unless its absolutely necessary. Because once its "perfect" you will never drive it in fear of a ding or paint chip or a million other thangs that happen when you use it. My advise is, drive it and enjoy the daylight out of this beautiful car!
In my 996, I added a Bluetooth module wired into the back of the head unit, this allows me to use my phone, play music without changing the oem look.
Same here.
Me too! (On my Ferrari 360). Works great and definitely the way to go to maintain factory stock interface…
@@gregmccandless3872 Mind you, I only really listen to podcasts so not sure about music sound quality?
What unit did you buy?
Everyone dreams of a mechanic like that! What a bloke, great customer service!
Think you’re destroying myths about maintaining these wonderful cars Sam, well done indeed
Having worked for a ferrari dealer and seen so many cars that suffered with the sticky buttons, its worth every single penny Sam. They do transform the interior especially on a warm day when you touch any button and they leave your hands black. Until you've owned a ferrari or worked on one you wont realise! Nice job
Love the restoration work, interior looks amazing. Such a great car.
The buttons are totally understandable. Looks great, Sam! People really don't understand the costs and time required to work on vehicles.
Car looks brand new! Congrats!
I had sticky buttons in my car as well, before I restored them myself. I TOTALLY understand why you fixed it, and fixed it properly. The car deserves it!
Please share your knowledge on how to restore them, I’m sure it would be vastly appreciated. 🏴🇬🇧
@@stressballer excellent job, they look great, well done. 🏴🇬🇧
I think the information that you need to buy an engraving laser for tens of thousands of dollars will suffice. If you want really restore it and not only make it bit better, than it is. Its impossible to restore them both cheap and good. You must make choice.
Those buttons etc do look rather good. Worth mentioning that as well as new OEM parts costing more that they would in time go sticky. A friend bought a hvac panel got an F355 he had. It came from the factory sealed and sticky inside. It had probably been on the shelves for some time.
Car looks fantastic.
Yup, others in the comments confirm, and I confirm, having the same project with my rare version of a 987.2S Cayman coming up. This is the reason we buy these cars, they are more of a dream item, they are supposed to scratch a completely different itch than economy cars or race cars.
It IS ridiculous having to spend that amount of money on some buttons, but the issue is with the carmakers that used this material, and created the issue. You wanting to fix the problem is 100% understandable, and man... It looks amazing! Congratulations on a very tasty update for your Ferrari. I can see how these changes would amount to a lift in owner happiness :)
Those buttons look great. I’d have done exactly the same thing
I totally understand, Sam. The buttons are the things you touch and see the most in your car, so you notice every time.
I love this restoration series. Love this as well as Paul Wallace’s one on his Murci. And I don’t at all think its a crazy thing to spend that amount of money on just buttons. It’s your interaction with the car, it needs to look and feel good. As a car audiohead myself, can’t wait to see u tackle the audio system next.
the knowledge of owning a near-mint example of a car like this is totally worth it. especially if its a keeper.
re paint will be the cherry on top.
I love that you are willing to put all that money in the car - and that you can afford it. Most of the cars are being ridden to death. Hopefully you can keep it as long as you want and enjoy every mile in it 🤞
Keep the patina around the wheels, it shows you DRIVE (LOVE) your Ferrari unlike most - DRIVE it proudly! The sticky switches are shyte, that had to be done! Well played!
I've got a 430 which i manually removed the sticky coating on and it was easily 2 weeks to pull out the interior and scrub everything clean. It isnt perfection.. like you said the door handles lose the markings, but its significantly better than it was before. I considered going the full restoration route but (as you are finding) thats a slippery slope as you begin to find more and more things that arent pristine lol
For head unit take a look at the DEH-80PRS. I had the exact same sentiments and i found this one to be the perfect blend of all the modern features (high quality audio output, blue tooth enabled), and a very clean simple look (once you turn off all the animation gimmicks in the display settings). The LED's on the buttons and display can also be programed to match the other green interior lighting on the controls/displays of the car as well. In my opinion it looks more at home in the ferrari than the stock unit. If you do the head unit you definitely need to swap the speakers as well, and possibly consider an amp if you want subs.
I love your approach to preserving and improving the 360. It shows true passion for it.
Its quite easy to get a Bluetooth 12v receiver and connect it to a small amp (if your 360 does not have one). This will all hide away out of site and connect to your phone for music. Also look at adding a USB port for charging. Done this on a few classic cars and works well, with nothing to see but can even get your sat-nav voice over the speakers.
For something I love and am passionate about, I would spend the same kind of money for the premium service, great video Sam!
Exactly, I love riding waves and spend unexplainable sums of money to travel. Other people will never understand a pasaion they don't also have.
the mechanic is a really nice guy. Really come out of his shell since the first video!
It looks like it was in safe hands at DK because it looks absolutely amazing. Kudos to you for doing it right and I’m sure it only adds value to the car in the long term anyway. The plastics look amazing and must be great to see and touch when you drive but for me the wheels and rear diffuser just make it look brand new. Well done and congratulations.
Hey Sam perhaps a solution for the radio the might be worth looking into is a FM radio transmitter they're fairly inexpensive and plug into the 12v power outlet and pretty straight forward to use!
Happy to hear that you refurbished the buttons not replaced them. When you said you were spending that amount of money on replacements that would only deteriorate in the same way, I was left questioning your sanity lol. But his makes sense.
You have only done the right things!! Continue to refresh it like you are doing!!
Looking good. Agree on keeping it standard and as how Ferrari built it. Only a couple of my switches have gone sticky, I'm planning on sorting them over the winter, so will be interesting to see how that goes.
Lost your channel for a while I’m glad to be back!
So right - you drive a car sitting on the inside. Getting the interior and the haptic right is so important.
Thanks for your detailed coverage of your 360 Sam. One of my favorite cars.
I'm looking forward to you taking your Ferrari on future road trips. Love those travel videos where you're "living" with the car.
Gotta love a resto. Always money well spent. Love the love you showing for your F360 mate
Absolutely loving this series. My dad and I are starting our journey to 360 ownership, the only other dream car is an FF so its between those two, and watching how much you love your 360 is just further proof to me that I will love my hero haha
SO worth it! to make that feeling like it was new again ! so awesome Sam !
@Seen Through Glass is the left tailpipe out farther out then the right one ? Seen at 13:41
I used to own a Coupé Fiat (still regretting letting that go). The entire center console and part of the dashboard were coated in the sticky stuff. It took me a week of evenings and an entire weekend to strip that down and re-paint it matte black (including (dis)assembly). I completely understand why you had these buttons fixed and it looks amazing!
Awesome video Sam. Don't forget PPF or XPEL or whatever after the repaint!
I doubt that Sam has another £4000 for full PPF at the moment
No place for sticky buttons in a Ferrari. Well done Sam. Looks new. Everything you interact with is your actual Ferrari that matters to you. Ferrari is not cheap so just enjoy and touch away!!
I did this on my f430 expensive, but it totally changed the feel of the interior, better than new
Worth every penny ! Interaction with the car is done through these switches.
Absolutely love this series. So so good!
That looks really smart, 100% keep it looking like a Modena rather than a CS rep, love it!
I would 100% have done the same as you. The joy of seeing it as perfect as this after that work far outweighs the money if you can afford it. Congrats pal!
Totally understand well done. I have got sticky surface material in my Alfa, you absolutely notice it EVERY time you use the car !
Paul is pure gold. He definitely doesn't charge what he's worth. Once the word is out, he'll be at 160/hour. Also, anyone who whines about what it cost to make the soft touch plastics nice again they can heck off. It's a freaking Ferrari, not a Corolla. It's all about the driving experience. Money well spent as far as I'm concerned. Well done sir.
It looks stunning Sam, I can’t blame you, a car that’s so close to your heart deserves love and attention. Like you said, like a New Car day. Congrats 👏 👏
Having owned a 2006 Alfa Romeo GT totally get the sticky button fix. Can’t wait to see the paint work done and for the big birthday trip
Another great clip. So you mention upgrading the head unit at the end. You are after a Becker Grand Prix 7993. Plug and play with existing connectors on your F360. Blue tooth for the phone, Ipod connectivity and looks as near as damn it the same as Ferrari 'Becker' head unit. It was one of the first things I did as well fitting the optional Sub Woofer unit between the seats. Buy decent quality speakers and all is good. However the sound from that CS exhaust blows any speaker system away. Continue the good work sir.
Glad you got all the bugs sorted out on the 360! Good episode.
Now PLEASE do a segment on that beautiful 993 GT!!!
I think getting a bluetooth module and connect it to the OEM headunit would be a great option Sam! Since it would still look original with modern functionality.
Cool series on your 360, please stick with the red. Totally understand that switch rebuild, recently replaced some sticky knobs in my 997 911 as well.
Brilliant video Sam, always enjoy seeing work being done to older cars, to help bring them back to factory fresh. Re. the head unit, I'd look into having the 'PORSCHE' inscription removed from a single DIN PCCM head unit so you have CarPlay. If you weren't fussed about CarPlay and were fine with just Bluetooth and DAB functionality, the Blaupunkt Bremen SQR 46 and Continental Automotive/VDO radios are good options. The only downside is that the lighting colour of the units may not match with the 360's (isn't the 360's green?) and I'm not sure how difficult it'd be to have the bulb colour changed in the head units. Keep up the great work!
DK really are in a league of their own! Awesome video!
Nice job. The 360 is looking terrific. Did my own work on the sticky buttons on mine. Makes a big difference. Nice one
Your 360 is looking really great. Looking forward to seeing the further work you have planned to make further improvements.
New switches is a no brainer 👍
Splendid job, who’d have thought such little jobs can make such large collective difference. Cars looking good :-)
Love the video and restoration Sam! Honestly 4k for a 20yr old Ferrari is pretty damn good if you ask me. Definitely more sensible than buying the overpriced parts from the dealer. For those viewers who said why not replace it instead, ok go pay for it lol. Question, how many miles/km does it have now?
I've had sticky buttons on my old 1998 Volvo V70R, and I totally get where you're coming from. They make the car look and feel older than it is. I too would have gotten them refurbished if it was me. Your 360's interior is looking fantastic. 👍
You are the best steward your 360 could ever ver have Sam. Good on ya.
Great taste and sensible decisions. After the re-spray your 360 will basically be like new.
Mate what a transformation especially the switches, you now own an immaculate interior 360 congrats and the undertray 👍
so clean and shiny, they did a lovely job. it does look like a new car. well done. grats.
Well done Sam she looks lovely, cost does not really matter. What matters is the smile its put on your face.
Lovely! I dont think many youtubers love their car quite like this
The CDR-220 radio can have a bluetooth module plugged into the back. Completely OEM look and adds bluetooth capability.
9:40 : exactly what I was telling about in Ep 2! PRICELESS SMILE(RETURNS) on the face after INVESTING that amount of money!
So glad you keeping them silver and not gun metal or god forbid, golden
It's clean Sam...well done chap...totally worth it...it's a keeper...enjoy...!
It was not only on the Ferraris, Fiat and Alfa Romeo projects had the same issue. I used to have a Fiat Stilo from the same era with the exactly same problem. It is possible to rub them with isopropyl alcohol and the sticky rubber finish yuo kinda come out. But for sure you loose that classy rubber feel that is very satisfying. 4k is not cheap, but It is a Ferrari! I would pay for it to be factory spec as well...
that uber rare 993 GT2 is my dream car. and its a 1 of 1 with that amazing color! Gorgeous
I totally get it Sam I had my steering wheel refurbed and replaced gear knob and arm rest pleather parts.
Oh how I miss my 2004 360 ..Great Cars ..Money well spent sir 👍
It's looking stunning and very original! Awesome job!
Totally get it Sam,when I was making my Suzuki Alto SZ4 (bright red) concours,it needed new wheel trims and yes I could have bought cheap aftermarket trims, but no I had to get genuine Suzuki ones.I managed to find a set on eBay,they were £10 more than aftermarket ones, but totally worth it and a bargain to boot.😉🙏🏼
Looks so much better! I think it is money well spent :) Looking forward to the video on getting the car resprayed!
“All depends as some are not as bad as each other. If everything I would say £1500-2000”
Ronald at Sticky Plastics quote on a full 360 interior sticky button fix. Think they you’ve had your pants down Sam.
Absolutely. Pointless spending so much on new when the problem will come back a bit down the line.
I like Sam. Lovely guy. But im baffled at spending £4K when other reputable companies are chafing 50% less. The only downside is having the get the parts removed but for £2k, it’s worth doing. Glad Sam is happy though.
Can’t wait to hear Tony’s reaction to this lol
That is practically brand new :O Great work! Awesome video :D
Amazing content, DK look to have done an incredible job with your car and it truly does look sooo much better for the work you’ve had done. I could totally justify it so I’m 100% with you. Looking forward to seeing it painted!! So much so I’ve hit the bell icon 😄
Money well spent. Impressive that it can be done so well. Enjoy your car, man..
It is nice to see you get the 360 in a good shape.
Personally I would spend that money on it as well.
Keep up the good work.
Anything that'll improve the tactility of enjoying a car is worth spending the money in my opinion, whether it's getting the steering wheel re-trimmed, replacing the gear knob...or spending £4K on buttons! If the touch points aren't right, it ruins the whole experience. Doesn't matter how good it sounds or how well it drives
Very good comment so true.
For head units have a look at Blaupunkt Bremen SQR 46, old school looks and great features.
I have a Ferrari 360 & cleaned the sticky buttons myself...hours of fun!!! The only problem the decals are now faded here & there. May need to send away to have the decals lasered back on??!!
