I used to hear Don's records sprinkled in with all the different types of music I heard on AM radio as a kid in the 1970s. What a wonderful musical education that was because we heard all styles of music and artists on one station! Don passed away in 2017, but I finally had the privilege of seeing him in concert when he came to a local venue in 2015. I sat near Don in the second row near the end of the stage where he was seated, and he smiled at me in approval when he apparently liked the sound of my voice during the audience sing-along verse of "You're My Best Friend". I'll always cherish that moment fondly.

Growing up here in Kansas there was always a radio playing in the kitchen, or in the car if we were out and about, always tuned to 61 Country on the AM dial.
