  • "Meditation Disciplines Can Cause Trouble" - a lecture by Manly P. Hall from July 31, 1983. Hall is not criticizing meditation or any particular discipline. He only warns against wrongful claims by certain people, and unreasonable expectations on the part of the individual. In other lectures, Hall also warned about LSD and other psychedelics as a short-cut to actual spiritual practice and quietude of mind.
Throughout his career, Manly Hall consistently advocated for periods of contemplation and supported the "Quiet Way" of Zen and Taoism.

I got from this that meditation itself can't change you. You have change yourself as in going through life with integrity. If Meditation and contemplation is for you it is a plus. Good intentions will align energy, causing motion.

yes, BUT contemplation is absolutely vital, no matter what path is taken

@wrongfootmcgee Of course, I agree a hundred percent. Without contemplation, I would say there is no self-realization.

What is integrity to you brother? I want to live in integrity also, but I can't define it in myself.

If you don't sign up to the nonesense schools of Meditation and explore the methods yourself for yourself, It can lead you to the change. but if you depend on it for the change it will mislead you

An incredibly important talk. So many peoole teach meditation as a cure-all without understanding that your life should be an integral expression of Godliness, divine order, and common sense, etc. From that foundation, meditation becomes useful and productive.

I know someone who got into meditation and ended up psychotic. Some guidance probably would have helped him.

13:00 minutes in Manly has already explained what I've been experiencing all week. The transformation is a secret I will to keep. 30:00 in Manly explained again. I have desired to see Death as the greatest day of understanding I'll ever experience and I by will shall see it through the last second of my mortal recogning. I will by the cosmos Power under "God" will become one with.. at minute 103. Manly explains my presence. Manly was couching along speaking actually telling my actual existence

...heard death described as "moving into knowing"
im in no rush, still hold some trepidations, but i dont fear a natural demise
i fear being unable to achieve sufficient awareness before demise, and even that fear is increasingly diminished

there are many natural mystics who intuit themselves to the place of wisdom
still, it is nice to find a sign post that lets you know you are still on the path

I don’t have anything wise to say on these comment threads and probably never will. But I appreciate Manly Hall being prescient enough to record all his lectures. He’s helped my life more than any other human being alive.

I use the same jew harp in the bible like David. I can see how Abraham Lincoln got his looks to him I am a spitting image. It's effects are identical to meditation it has only one note but can be different by position of the tongue inside the mouth. Just like the Australian didgeridoo. Vibration , just like vowel chants make form from the formless.

This is identical to the teachings of the danish seer Martinus and also the Pathwork lectures by Eva Pierrakos. Possibly akin to Steiner also?
These days there are so many teachings about instant enlightenment, promising that we all can transcend the earth/3D plane immediately and have our last incarnation.
Mr Halls lecture is both sobering, humbling and also gives the whole quest a kind of silver lining, making it less disagreeable.

What does “abusing the mind” mean? Avoid reading, avoid thinking, thinking only just about oneself, use of alcohol and drugs, loud mind, no contribution to the world, not concentrating, multitasking, no discipline.
