Great review. I've loved my SE-1 since I got it in the late 90's. I use it on at least 70% of my music (mainly for bass). I was using it yesterday and it still sounds as good as ever. It's never missed a beat..rock solid, not even a crackle on a pot. 👍🏻😎

The irony is Studio Electronics has been making synths longer now than the original Moog company.

So great to see some Studio Electronics love!! Note that SE has a newer version of the machine out, the SE-3X. It's paraphonic and has switchable resonant filter types: 24 dB MINI; 24 dB ARP; JUNO/JUPITER with 24dB, 6dB, and “Mix Mode”; built-in SEM filter. All front panel switchable. It's AWESOME.

Yeah, I'm getting hold of one to demo which is cool. I've also put the 3x upgrade in this which adds polyphony and the better UI - just not the filters unfortunately :)

The studio electronics 8 voice poly is probably one of the best and wildest sounding synths I’ve ever heard, you get your choice of filter also I think

I have been drooling over SE1s since reading about it in Music Technology 1994. Boy has 30 years of salivating made a mess.

haha... I remember seeing one on the cover of the first sound on sound I ever purchased.

People always mentioned slow envelopes with the SE1, is that really a thing?

on the original SE-1 its not as snappy. the 1X has an improved envelope. I must say though its not a 'bad' envelope just not as snappy as a Moog or analog envelopes of the day. there was an upgrade kit for the originals that many used.
