    Best snare drum comparison out there. Very constant tuning, playing and very natural sounding. Great job. Sound is subjective and sound changes when playing with a band. The damped heads like HD dry etc maybe hard to hear in loud volume situations and great in regular playing solo at home etc. This is why change the heads to the situation from drum studio to live playing. I like to have option on using undamaged heads and place either an Evans e Ring, Evans mini mad or moon gel if needed in sound situations. If I can suggest, it would have been nice to do another comparison with the heads at say 90 - 92 on the drum dial to hear how each head changes in projection, response and natural sound duration. Great stuff. Happy Drumming.

    What a great video!!!!! - I came here to decide between genera dry and hydraulic, now I don't even know where to start haha! Thank you for an excellent comparison video.

    Best comparison ive ever seen! When the audio it side by side and no talk or other rhythms between, its SO easy to hear the difference!

    Perfect method for comparison, but that snare has a ton of ring to it! It's odd, because in other videos the reverse power dot and G2 sound really good, and here they're 'meh'. Genera HD is my new favorite.

    This helped me so much to save a lot of money :)
    I use the Genera HDD for years now. Maybe it's not the perfect head for every snare and situation, but it was never wrong or sounded bad. Workes great on my 14" Sensitone Brass
    I don't like the sound of the snare in the video, most of the heads sound bad with this one.
    But it's great to understand the differences.

    This was a great comparison of all the Evans heads, and the video and audio with the pop-up of each drum head was superb! Was every head tensioned the same, using what tuning device?

    Thank you tons for doing these three drumhead videos. They go way more in depth than the promos Evans puts out. About to go into the recording studio and I started wondering if I should make changes from my normal setup. Decided to flip over from an Eq3 to GMAD 2 clear on bass and From HDD Dry to Genera Dry on 13" brass shell snare, but I'm sticking with the tried and true G1 coated on the Ludwig Supra and G2 clear on the toms.

    ST takes the cake for me.
    the sustain of a G1 with a heavier rimshot and much more durable. if I want to dry it out, I'll slap a moon-gel on it

  • @Rockin_Ross
    @Rockin_Ross 4 года назад

    I use the hydraulic black coated on my mahogany Gretsch snare and people say I’m crazy. Yet it needs 0 muffling and is real easy to tune.
    Maybe I’m not so crazy after all.

    • @MadWinter889
      @MadWinter889 4 года назад

      Not everyone thinks drums need muffling. Also "hard to tune" means it needs a bit of work and knowledge to make the snare sound good. It's easy to tune a drum that will produce zero tone and harmonics because of the extremely muffled head. A high quality snare with a well tuned head will produce pleasant tone and harmonics.

    • @Rockin_Ross
      @Rockin_Ross 4 года назад

      @@MadWinter889: That head isn’t as muffled as you’d think. I assume you’ve used them, which is how you know? I’ve used them since the 80’s & have had great success live.
      I don’t use them in the studio because I need a wider range of sustain & tonality. But playing live...guitars, bass & vocals cover what sustain those (and any other) heads would give to the audience anyway.
      I use what I use & don’t care what others think. But I’ll defend what I like just like anyone else would.

      Greg Myers I like the snare but its my only one. I will be purchasing the pdp bubinga/maple 20 ply 8x14 soon. I just love sound of a deep thick snare man. I threw some wood hoops on my ludwig too

      Greg Myers I considered some metal snares but prefer wood. I do like the sound of the pork pie patina snare a lot. I also enjoy brass snare tones. That dw is a beast though. You will need a forklift to get it on the stand lol
