    You forgot the most important thing: The fuel economy is WAY better than any of the sub compact or compact cars.

    You dont compare this mirage to a rio or fiesta or a note, you compare it to a chevy spark or a kia picanto and hyundai i10 and honda brio and suzuki celerio and maybe a vw up, these cars are sold outside north america and all come standard with 3 cylinders and they all have the same size,these are cars made for city driving and easy to park in limited space, performance is not a priority but fuel economy is when you fuel it up

    Didn't mention the fuel economy which is probably a major selling point for some consumers.

    Well I have owned 3 Mirages now a 2015 Mirage ES CVT, 2017 Mirage G4 SE, and now a 2021 Mirage SE (all top trims for each model year). Well in 2019 I switched from my 2017 Mirage G4 SE to a loaded Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross SEL Touring with S-AWC (top trim) and I loved the Eclipse Cross and all its features but I always missed my Mirages. Well when I saw the new 2021 models with all new styling and new features I went for it. They have more now than ever and in my top trim SE I have forward collision warning and auto brake with pedestrian detection and auto brake, lane departure warning, auto high beam assist, new larger auto head unit on top trim, all new led head lights and tail lights, new wheels, super nice leatherette and plaid cloth seats (look super upscale), cloth & padding on front door arm rests now, cloth on front doors now, and more. They really done alot to the Mirage and all the standard features it has are unreal. If you step up to the top trim it feels alot more upscale for a Mirage. Sure its a slower car and its not quiet nor is it meant to be. But it rides very smooth for a small car, gets amazing mpg, loaded with features, has advanced driver safety aids and 7 air bags, amazing amount of room for how small it is is and the Mirage G4 has a huge back seat, 10 yr warranty, is proven to be super reliable and has amazing owner satisfaction, and that neato sound of its 3 cylinder! I have owned 3 and have owned so many new cars and have never owned the same kind twice but now I have owned 3 Mirages.
    Its not about saving money or buying a cheap car to me I just like then. My top trim Eclipse Cross SEL Tourings MSRP was $32,245.00 much more than a Mirage but I wanted a loaded SUV and love Mitsubishi. I thought about a loaded new Outlander the 2022 but I couldn’t get past missing my Mirages. I always buy top trim in whatever car I buy and now the Mirage SE really is loaded for a subcompact and its interior is so neat looking with the plaid seats! If you like the Mirage and are nervous weather to get one dont be. They are great cars and owners verify that who live day in and day out in them!

    I own a 2015 Mirage ES. Sure it is not the most refined car and is a little wallowing going through corners but the ride is super smooth in town over pot holes and such. The nice thing about the Mirage is you can get a basic one with a 5 speed manual for someone looking for the cheapest option possible or you can get one totally loaded up with Navigation and even Parking Sensors.
    When I went from my 2013 Hyundai Elantra I wanted a City car with excellent fuel economy but did not want to loose out on high end features so this was the perfect option for me. I got the ES with CVT, Navigation, Back-Up Camera, Front & Rear Park Assist Sensors, Exterior Sport Package, Chrome Package, Body-Side Moldings, & the Cargo Package. After rebate I paid just over $16,000.00 for mine and its a perfect fit for me.
    I understand this car is not for everyone but for some its the perfect vehicle. Drive one and see if its right for you! I can easily achieve 40 mpg in the city and 45-50 mpg hwy.

    I have read some of the comments and agree this presenter was completely off on this review. He compares it to cars not in its class, and steers the conversation away from the cars real strength: fuel economy. He slips into the stereo type macho car reviewers mantra: it's got no horsepower! He fails to asses the car in it's own context, no mention of Chevy Spark, or Fiat 500... I'm rather surprised he didn't mention a VW Golf. This review does not do him credit.

    0:54 Going to totally disagree with you there. I love both the front and rear lights. The body styling is pretty damn nice. Better than nearly all it's competitors in my opinion.

    I own a 2020 Mitsubishi mirage and do plenty of highway travel, it's roomy, comfortable, just a overall good and reliable vehicle.Not sporty by any means, but easily does 110-120 km/h & gets killer fuel economy. I have heard reviews say that some passing & merging need to be planned out, but isn't that what a driver should be doing anyway. Best vehicle I have owned by far, have owned a Nissan Micra & a Ford Fiesta as well.
    All are good vehicle's, but the Mirage just feels like the best choice out of the three for my own purposes.

    For what it is (an entry level car) it is more than adequate. Automatic climate control, 140 watt stereo with usb/mp3, pw,pl,pm and 7 airbags including drivers knee airbag which is not available on any Honda at any price. 44mpg, easy on the environment, seats 4, longest warranty in the business. all for

    Well, the sales of the Mirage have been double than expected in the USA. I think I am not the only one that does like this car. This is coming from a car guy that owns a 2013 Mustang GT, I want a second CHEAP car with navigation and that does 40mpg, $15,000 for one of these? I think I will buy one very soon.

  • @bernardkobner2056
    @bernardkobner2056 11 лет назад +7

    You are wrong. Styling is not their selling point! Fuel economy is their selling point by getting combined 40 miles to the gallon and has lots more standard features than the other competitors. No other car gets 40 miles to the gallon combined. Horse power doesn't even matter.The Chevy Spark doesn't even have over 100 horse power either. Torque is what matter and it gets over 120ft pounds of torque. THEY DON'T EVEN MAKE THE KIA RIO IN THE US ANYMORE because its supposed to be fuel efficient and it was not competitive at all!

    Horrible review, This car has the lowest drag ratio of any car (its called technology) yet he thinks this car is an 80's throwback? Its the best MPG straight gas car you can buy, by a lot. The gets at least 10 mpg better mileage than the Rio, 15 mpg better than the Versa. If you want to race, buy a Mustang. Quit trying to race a 3 cylinder car. The Rio cost 3K more, Versa 5K more. He asks why they made this car, has he checked the price of gas recently? People want a reliable car that makes great gas mileage. His review is based off passing power and race car handling?

      Professional auto reviewers don't really know what to make of the Mirage, because it is a type of car that has been absent from the American market for a long time. Cheap, reliable, miserly, simple, unpretentious.
      Every manufacturer now wants to sell the automotive equivalent of a "spork". A spork isn't a good spoon, and isn't a good fork. But it is mostly adequate when used as either. Same as most cars now. They handle adequately. Accelerate adequately. Get adequate mileage. Etc, etc. But none really do anything WELL.
      The Mirage does mpg VERY well. And that is all it's designed for.

    He really don't know what he's talking about, in the beginning he compared an A segment cars with B segment cars? He keeps comparing the car to fiesta, I owned Fiesta for a few weeks and NOT happy with the fuel consumption, 1:14 for fiesta and exchange my fiesta for a 1:20 Mirage! He does not even being realistic, not ever once mentioning the fuel consumption on an ECO car?

    • @Motormouth...

      I compare cars that are equal in price, so ys they are comparable. When people buy a car, they look at how much they have to spend and what they get for that price. This car falls short, very short. As mentioned the Kia Rio is a much more substantial car, with more features, power and it handles better. This car will not sell well because it isn't what the average person is looking for.

    • @m4v3r1ck1998
      @m4v3r1ck1998 11 лет назад

      If you want to compare space star with kia you should be comparing it with a Picanto, not Rio. I don't know about canada pricing but in the Netherlands Rio's price is 3500 euro more than space star. So it's not equal, same goes to Fiesta, you should be comparing it to Ka although Ka costs 1000 euro more than Space Star (Mirage). With the features given in the Mirage it's definitely worth more money than his comparable 3 CYL engined cars out there, such as Toyota Aygo, Peugeot 107, Citroen C1, Skoda Citigo, VW UP, Seat Mii. Those are comparable cars to the Mirage. Agree? If we're talking about handling, what's your opinion to the trio Aygo, 107 and C1? Those handles even worse and yet if I look around on the street all I see are those cars because they're cheap, very good mileage just like Mirage. Maybe Canada's just like the US where the gas price is very low and ppl are craving for power. Here in the Netherlands average ppl will prefer the good mileage over the less sporty handling (gas price of 1,85 euro per metric liter).
      I've driven the Mirage for around 3 months now and 10000 KM in the 3 mnths, even took it to German autobahn and I must say the ride's more than bearable, if not quite comfortable for car of this price and size. And it's definitely holds way bigger boot than an Aygo, I've driven that for a month and 4000KM as well. I've done my research and test drives before getting the Mirage.
      I'm not against you, I just think this little eco car deserves a fair review.
      Thank you.

      So u don't have Toyota Aygo, Peugeot 107, Skoda Citigo, Mii, Up, etc in Canada? Seriously?? Mirage is the only 3 Cyl car sold in Canada? Then I apologise, you cannot compare this unique car to any other cars since they're not available in Canada. So there's no comparable car there.

  • @discerningmind
    @discerningmind 11 лет назад +1

    This guy totally misses the point of the new Mirage. Yes, you can always spend more money and get more car no matter what you're shopping for. The brilliance here is that Mitsubishi built a car that delivers hybrid MPG's without the hybrid weight and complicated technology, and at a price $6000 less than the lowest cost hybrid. So too, Mitsubishi made it comfortable for all day use. As far as the power goes it's pretty good, go to 2:44 in the vid and watch how fast the trees go by from a stand still take off. Guys who make vids like this just erk me!!!

  • @JohnSnowNW
    @JohnSnowNW 10 лет назад +1

    Not sure how you can complain about the acceleration on a vehicle with CVT, that is designed to conserve fuel. Less efficient cars with bigger engines are going to be more fun to drive. However, I'd argue that none of the vehicles you've mentioned are particularly fun to drive, and the whole point of the segment is economy, which the Mirage does well. I've got no horse in this race, and I wouldn't buy a Mitsu because of their market slump...but I wouldn't fault the car for driving as designed, and I certainly wouldn't use comparisons to the other vehicles in the segment who's best MPG #'s are only equal to, or below, the combined fuel economy of the Mirage.

      OK, so it's only the 2nd or 3rd cheapest car to buy in the country instead of the first. :D And on fuel economy, a bit of research would show owners are generally meeting/beating the EPA ratings in the real world with this car. I also want to know what options the Rio has for 16k. you also didn't mention this car might have 78hp, but it's 500-600lbs lighter than the other cars with only 30-40hp more.

    Odd that you praise the Nissan's CVT compared to the Mirage's. Both cars actually share the *same* transmission! Mitsu gets theirs from JATCO, a Nissan spinoff company. (And, no, I'm not affiliated with Mitsu.)

    • @Motormouth...
      @Motormouth...  11 лет назад +1

      Yes, this is the same tranny, the Chrysler group also used it in their Jeep Compass and Patriot. The transmission is supplied by the same company to meet the requirements of each manufacturer, so each company tunes them separately. This tranny is jerky at low revs, the engine is noisy and produces harsh vibration. With the larger 1.6L in the Note it is a very good combination, with this car, not so much. I suggest you drive the car before you say I don't know what I'm talking about….

    • @MirageForum
      @MirageForum 11 лет назад

      I've tried both the Mirage CVT and 5MT, and found the CVT to be remarkably good at what it was designed to do: save fuel for the driver.
      And no, it's not the same unit used in the Jeeps! Among other things, the Jeep unit lacks the 2-speed sub-gearbox and idle-neutral features used in the Mirage (and Note), which are big reasons it's so efficient.

    • @PeterLainas

      +Motormouth Canada I've owned the 2014 Mirage for 18 months now. Manual SE with the comfort package which includes leather wrapped wheel and gearshift, cruise control and steering wheel mounted audio/bluetooth controls. I can honestly say that you don't know what you are talking about. I test drove the Fiesta, the Versa Note and the Rio. Other than a little more space, which is due to initial body design, the Mirage offers more features and bang for the buck. I have made quick passes at highway speeds, the road noise is not "deafening" as you make it out to be and with the "underpowered" motor you speak of, I can come flying out of an entrance ramp at 120+ km/h on an uphill grade. 0-100 km/h in 13-14 seconds (sorry, wasn't on a track so no exact time.) The drag coefficient is at 0.28 and even with my lead foot, I have never gotten worse than 7.5 L/100 km fuel economy in the city, even during winter with some more extensive warm up periods. The problem with the car is it drives very vague. I took a 5 speed for a test drive, comparing it to the Nissan micra. It is the single slowest car I've ever driven. The shifter is vague, the steering on centre the same. The gas mileage is a claimed 64mpg based on the 2014 testing process. The 2015 and up is a different test procedure. Real world it gets more like 38-40mpg. That's great, but it has so little power, it's kind of scary when you can't keep up with traffic. Here in Canada, you can get a base model of the mirage, or the micra for the same price. $9998. The micra gets almost the same real world milage, has adequate power(feels like a race car driving both back to back). It really feels like a cheap car. The micra is much better.

    This is a bad review.. #1 its not a standard compact its a micro or city car,competes with the chevy spark and smart4-2..#2 its an econo box so its an A to B car not chick magnet vehicle..so naturally its gonna be cheap transport on the cheap..#3 ya notice he never not once mentioned the gas milage??!! Yea thats because it has the highest milage of any gas compact/city car in the us,38 combined 44hwy thats awesome! one of teh best and worse cars i ever owned was a geo metro 1.0..yea it wasnt flashy,wasnt fast,wasnt great looking but got killer milage,was low on insurance,went everywhere and was cheap to maintain..thats teh key to the mirage..Cheap to run,maintain,high milage,decent features,city car smallness and low price..dont thank me for doing ya re-revew for ya

    I'm reading a lot of negative comments regarding this review by Mr. Spencer but the fact remains that he is right on the money!!!!!
    This is an appalling little car that has received terrible reviews around of the world, not just by Zack. Even though he didn't mention the fuel economy figures for the Mirage (B.F.D.) it still doesn't take away from that fact that this is likely the most miserable, bland, rudimentary sub-compact car available in the Canadian market. There are so many better options out there!
    The fact of the matter is that this is an awful car reviewed by IMHO the best automotive journalist in Canada. Day in, day out, Zack Spencer delivers the best Canadian base car reviews around. I can't count the number of times I have sent links of his youtube videos to family and friends looking for a new set of wheels.
    Keep up the great work Zack!

      The "reviewers" are comparing things like 0-60, handing, and road noise. That is not what this car is about. Its a reliable gas mileage car that has a simple design. I keep my cars for 10+ years so I look for things like how easy it to change a light, the oil, etc. This car uses the cheapest tires and the most expensive part (normally the transmission) is a CVT which repair/replacement is much cheaper.

  • @JuggleAddict
    @JuggleAddict 10 лет назад

    It's sad that he missed the point of the car. It's also sad that this is the mentality of many North Americans. If you're really that scared about driving a car with such little horsepower, you're on an ego trip, or you're terrible at driving. Yes, you have to carry your momentum. No, you can't brute force your way down the road. No, that's not a bad thing. It's got plenty of power. Take a look at some European cars, they've had these engines for years! It's about fuel economy. This car will be very cheap to own, and will get you there safely, and I'm surprised with some of the features they were able to add at the cost. It was never meant to be "inspiring" and you should stop judging it like a frackin' sports car. It has it's charm, and strengths, you're just blind to them. I would definitely opt for the manual tranny.

  • @palebeachbum

    I agree on some points and disagree on others. It's the cheapest subcompact around. So you get what you pay for. I totally agree the styling looks very bland and dated. It looks like the LAST generation Hyundai Accent's ugly cousin. And that was by no means a handsome little car. However, I disagree about the Kia Rio being the best one out there. People buying a subcompact are less concerned with power and more concerned with maximum fuel economy. The Rio is actually one of the thirstiest. Although not the best looking, the Versa Note offers a lot of space and a comfortable drive for the money. I love my sedan, but wish I had the hatchback.

  • @eltonjohn3236
    @eltonjohn3236 10 лет назад

    It's not really a cheap car. $1,000 more puts you into far superior product. People may buy something like this since Mitsu is generous with credit, but there's no other compelling reason.

    • @zackspencer1924
      @zackspencer1924 10 лет назад

      Diane Glover Let's check back in 6 months, this thing is dead on arrival. The reason they are selling it for $10,000 is that nobody wants to buy it. It will be purchased by people who need a used car but can afford this with a full warranty. In Europe and other markets if will sell, they are used to underpowered, small cars but in North America it will be a very tough, tough sell. As mentioned, a Kia Rio and Nissan Note offer a whole lot more for a bit more $$. Mileage isn't the only reason people buy, it still has to be a good car...

I suspect that 90 plus % of the people taking offence to my remarks have not driven this car. I have. Yes, it might be capable of getting good fuel economy but I can tell you that people buy cars based on the features they get, the value they offer, the ride, handling and price. On most of these fronts this car falls short. Drive one before you comment!!

      I have driven the car and i understand that it's just a city car. Engineers figured out how to make a vehicle move from point A to point B w/o drama, that is with the best fuel economy w/o paying a price of a hybrid and low maintenance cost. You are comparing this car to a Versa note, but you fail to realize they use the same CVT. If you want to compare this vehicle to another, i say Chevrolet Spark, which also by the way, I've test driven and i find much slower and guess what, it has four cylinder, and guess what, it didn't put out the same MPG that the mirage has. I ended up purchasing the Mirage.
      I didnt just test driven one, but i also did my research. It isn't as prestige as my audi Q5 but for a full tank, work to home, for almost a month, i only spent $25 in gas. And a habit of using 91 octane on all my vehicles, which i do with the mirage which it made the engine much less noisy.

      If you know more about the vehicle, the main purpose, the design purpose, the aerodynamic drag coefficient, and "like" cars to compare it with, then I might have taken your review far more professional.
      And for someone who needs an entry level short distance car that doesn't want to pay an arm and a leg for something on wheels, why not this vehicle, or mazda 3 or chevrolet spark, or toyota yaris, etc. The phrase " you get what you pay for" comes to mind doesn't it.
