Well as with all other classes there are two types of CVs as well. Those that play for the maximum effect and win and those that are potatoes. This Furious is the second type.
For the record, Jingles, aircraft carriers in WoWs are surprisingly consistent about their historical aircraft numbers. If you were to do the math of adding the initial complement and then sum all the replacements with the assumption the CV is constantly replacing planes until the match clock runs out, then most carriers will end up with a total number of initial + replacement planes that's slightly below their historical hangar capacity and nominal aircraft complement. The 50 calibre guns were the newer design yes, but they didn't carry all of the highest mark numbers. The original 45 calibre guns were Marks 1, 2, 3, & 5 while the original 50 calibre guns were Marks 4 & 6. When the 14" guns were reconstructed in the 1930s the 45 calibre guns became Marks 8, 9, 10, & 12 and the 50 calibre guns became Marks 7 & 11. And just to make things that much more complicated the guns were interchangeable, so it was common to see a mix of 45 calibre mark numbers in the same turret and a mix of 50 calibre mark numbers in the same turret. Obviously you would never see a mix of 45 and 50 calibre guns in the same turret. Even if the mountings were the same, it still wouldn't work.
Jingles: the AA guns on the USS Arizona in this case is what she had at the time of the attack on Pearl Harbor December 7, 1941. It not like the other ships that were salvaged who were pumped up to the teeth with AA and participated in battles at the Surigao Straits and other areas around the country during the Philippines campaign.
As a WOWS player "VanSpeyk77" and historie nerd I and my nephew (also WOWS a player "Lucthemodmaster") went in February to visit Oahu, Hawaii to see Pearl Harbor. Seeing the wreck of the Arizona is one thing. But she still leaks so much oil that I will never forget the smell of oil while at the Arizona memorial.
To be fair there are magical mystery torpedo building gnomes on every torpedo armed ship and whole bunch of shell filling peasants fabricating new shells from thin air on every ship... Is it really that bad to have magical mystery aircraft factories at that point?
As a CV main...tier 4 and tier 6 aircraft regeneration is completely broken. You really are not EVER going to be short planes on a tier 4 carrier....and tier 6 carriers only should be short when facing tier 8 match making. WG continues to ignore any critical feedback, because they drove away all the skilled RTS CV players...and then they ignore all the skilled rework CV players because we point out how bad it is.
I mean, to be fair, realistically ships had so many shells that running out isn't a problem in what is on average only a 10minute engagement. Maybe the die hard spammers like the Smolensk or the Minotaur if they held down the mouse from start to finish, but most every other ship would be fine.
Yes, cause they don't just have mysterious aircraft factories. They also have unlimited torpedos, rockets, and bombs. And if that aircraft lands at 1% hp? FULL HEAL. But ships don't have guns or torpedo launchers that magically get repaired if they get destroyed. The damage control can repair one that gets disabled, but it still has lost hp. Comparing shells to airplanes means you aren't understanding how the game works.
To be fair to the Furious, sometimes you just can't waste the time doing a proper line up if the ship you are attacking is paying attention to your planes. Was this guy lazy?...Probably but it doesn't change that if the ship you are attacking is turning you wont get a perfect or proper drop on them. And yes the auto pilot is absolute garbage.
I don't have the Arizona, but having played a rental of her, she's by far my favorite "US Hefership". Every nation has "heferships". They're the BB's that take 3 decades to get up to speed, 2 decades to stop, 2 to move the rudder, 5 for the thing to actually start turning, and it moves at a blistering top speed of 4 battles per knot (meaning you'll engage 4 times before you've even moved 1 nautical mile). The USN seems to have some of the worst lower level "heferships" of the entire game though. So. Carolina, Texas, New Mexico. All of them demanding the battles come to them. But the Arizona is a really tempting buy for me due to her accurate hard hitting guns. Yes, she's a hefer with no fly swatter, but she'll punt you good the moment you ignore her. I'm sure part of that has to do with her being a premium, but she's still, a really good USN BB.
Did you end up buying ari? I bought her and she has been insanely fun when dad's rush and don't expect 12 14 inch high explosive shells that are weirdly accurate
Jingles - you are critical of the "magical aircraft factory" aboard carriers, but I've never heard you complain about a "magical torpedo factory" aboard destroyer's or other torpedo-firing ships, or unlimited ammo on all ships. Heck, if some of these battles were real, I bet some ships would need new barrels for the main guns before the battle ended, due to how many shots they fired. No matter, Jingles - love ya anyway!
The keel of the Arizona was laid in Milwaukee WI a long time ago. Both of my grandfathers served as Commanding Officer of the Arizona. My paternal grandfather died December 7, 1941. The specifications quoted for the Arizona are a lot different than the way my maternal grandfather remembered them.
Shittons of peacetime cruises, and then a 410mm AP bomb to the forward magazines. Her captain's Annapolis academy ring was found welded to the back of the bridge by the heat and force of the explosion.
The Arizona was the second of the Pennsylvania class battleships. She along with California, West Virginia, Oklahoma, and Utah were all officially sunk. She's the most infamous due to the losses on her being the greatest and her still being in active service. California, West Virginia, and Oklahoma all lost around 100~150 each. The Utah was an "ex-battleship" and was being used as a target ship, however 64 were lost to her. The California and West Virginia were recovered, remodeled, and returned to service. The Oklahoma was set for scrap salvage, but ultimately ended breaking apart during salvage attempts. Currently only the Arizona and Utah remain in Pearl Harbor, separated only by the island memorializing the event that took both of them. Sorry to drone on about the Utah, but represent home state ships. On that note, poor Montana. Set to have the next best BB that got cancelled and never had a BB named after them ever.
@@steeljawX wasn't the Maryland sunk too? I know it was between Ford Island and the Oklahoma but I'm pretty sure that 6/9 battleships were sunk. The Tennessee was in the middle of battleship row shielded by Ford Island and the West Virginia so it never took any torpedo hits, the Nevada was beached on the way out of the harbor and the Pennsylvania was in dry dock so it was in no danger of sinking even if it was completely trashed (those being the other 3) but I thought the Maryland sunk too no?
@@steeljawX Wrong on a few points. The only real losses were two of the oldest standard class BBs. Arizona was a complete write-off and Oklahoma was salvaged, but so extensively damaged that she was sidelined (she later sank being towed back to the mainland--she was very badly damaged below the waterline). The two survivors saw AA modernizations. The two most damaged of the Big Five were totally rebuilt as was Rebel T. The last two served with only regular refits, as did the New Mexico class.
The AZ is one of my favorite ships to play. I've had some of my best games sailing her. When her guns land they hit hard. I detonated a Nelson once in her. It was a completely random I was sailing close to an island and. And it popped up out of the blue broadside. And I happened to have my guns trained in the right direction. And took the shot and just dropped her...🤣
Ive only recently gotten into carrier gameplay, and I agree that you really dont need more then 2 brain cells to do "something" with it. But if you do good, oh boy is it rewarding. Taking the time to line up the perfect drop and end up disabling both rear turrets on a BB. ^^ One time I legit carried a game and got insulted by a guy on the opposite team for basically "playing a point and click adventure", his words. So in the NM’s defense that was the right move with the wrong teammate. That said neither of them should have showed broadside while his guns were loaded but that’s obvious.
Lol, one time I was in my Arizona and spotted aircraft far away. I ignored them as I was sailing with a friend of mine who was in an Atlanta. However, later on we got a little separated during a firefight and he had to take behind an island further away. I was using a sound mod that enhances the sounds of the guns with more realistic sound effects. It works for AA and AAA as well. Anyways, I was shooting a Fuso when all of a sudden I hear the slow and steady “doosh, doosh, doosh, doosh” of my 1.1” AA guns. I was like WTF as I had the sound turned up and it startled me. Lol, a flight of Martin T4Ms from the enemy Langley were dropping torpedoes on me. I evaded, but those Chicago Pianos gave me a fright. 😂

There were a few different types of rifling grooves iirc. My grandfather explained it to me decades ago, but I do remember something about a hook and slope rather than a traditional groovy barrel. Given a 50 calibers being less accurate than a 45 at same caliber, maybe it's the hooker vs plain? Or maybe just the game? Don't know.
It must just be about wasting your time , now youtube wants me to watch a white box with a little timer until it feels I have wasted enough time , then I can watch the video . Still no adverts , just time .
(aka Morbo) The three DDs had planes overhead, so that didn't help with preserving their health, methinks. Also one yolo'ed in at the (his) end, so classic poitatoe.
To be fair to the Fubuki, he did take the air attack heat off the friendly Graf Spee in the cap circle, once he was detected by the carrier. At that point the GS was in a fight with a Nicholas and a Kirov and really needed to go un-reset to lure them out. Whether that was the outcome of deliberate, intelligent play by the Fubuki is debatable.
I can hear that Furious apologizing profusely "Sorry about that chap, didn't want to scratch up your paint, these planes can be quite a handful, well, if you happen to drop by, I'll have tea and biscuits ready, cheerio"
1 minute in... "actually Jingles, Arizona preceded New Mexico, so Arizona's guns are in fact older; they are the mk9 iteration of the 45 caliber 356mm gun whereas NM's guns are the mk7 iteration of the 50 caliber design."
The Arizona's guns could not be elevated independently, which is why they have a different designation, which the US Navy adopted in the 1930s. The New Mexico's guns could be elevated independently, which meant a gun could be reloaded while the other guns are firing, thus (in theory) increasing their rate of fire. In WOWS Arizona is depicted as she was in 1930, with 4-5in AA guns and multiple .50 cal machine guns. Ironically, new four barreled 25mm AA guns were on a ship docked at the 1010 dock and would have been added while at Pearl Harbor.
@@R9R6R9 The biggest issue in such a camo is that the Arizona is in shallow water vs the Bismarck in deep water. The depth and cold water the Bismarck sits in does a remarkable job of preventing deterioration of the wreck, and the plant and coral life is relatively minimal. The Arizona, on the other hand, is in shallow warm water, and corroding rather rapidly and completely infested with marine growth. Plus, a good portion of the superstructure had to be cut off to build the memorial over the top of the wreck. So, yeah, they'd look very different.
Why do I not get teams like this? Honestly, the carrier gameplay makes my eyes bleed as well, considering a decent CV could have turned this battle either way for either team, but holy crap. No one ever shows me broad side multiple times
Does anyone know if Jingles is able to quote all those Torp stats etc.. off the top of his head or does he have like a spreadsheet? Seems to me it would be an amazing achievement to be able to quote all the torp/main battery/armour stats from memory.

@@snape1464 Happy to say this is why we love the West Coast :)
Don't know.
I know it's only a game...but nice to see Arizona slugging it out the way she was intended.
It must just be about wasting your time , now youtube wants me to watch a white box with a little timer until it feels I have wasted enough time , then I can watch the video . Still no adverts , just time .
Holy shit that's my all time damage record...
(aka Morbo) The three DDs had planes overhead, so that didn't help with preserving their health, methinks. Also one yolo'ed in at the (his) end, so classic poitatoe.
6:59 lol sounds like the discovery channel and the 3 lions close in the gazelle has not a chance
ah Jingles never change
Jingles acknowledging carriers? If I didn't believe 2020 was gonna end in the Apocalypse before, I sure do now... XD
Yo, can anyone tell me what measurement a 'caliber' is? Is it like a 45-caliber barrel being 45 times its bore-diameter in length?
“Dripping like a septic asshole” thanks for putting that in my mind
Bloody nice !!
Fucken hell Jingles that ending... You enjoyed that didn't you...
3:25 Concentric means 'with the same center'. AA bubbles are NOT concentric unless the ships are standing on top of each other ;)
He means "overlapping fields of fire"
Best outro Ive heard in a hot minutes 😂😂😂
Does anyone know if California will be available this update
That New Mexico battleship, who needs friends when the enemy is so nice and kind to you? 🙂
I can hear that Furious apologizing profusely
"Sorry about that chap, didn't want to scratch up your paint, these planes can be quite a handful, well, if you happen to drop by, I'll have tea and biscuits ready, cheerio"
1 minute in... "actually Jingles, Arizona preceded New Mexico, so Arizona's guns are in fact older; they are the mk9 iteration of the 45 caliber 356mm gun whereas NM's guns are the mk7 iteration of the 50 caliber design."
And video demonetized for sexual innuendo.... :D
Did you mean in your endo? ;)
@@Carvoeirobynite ;-)
Brought to you by the word "meanwhile".
When our main character 100 to 0 that Russian cruiser, I almost spit my coffee out. Well done sir
I love playing arizona. She's such a beautiful ship. And it gives extra credits
Edit and he's just got bch slapped for half of his health
Woo!
Well tha is gonna be a surprise and a half.
HMS Furious player: lets mess this up.
USS Arizona: sure thing.
I was expecting more rust and seaweed, and also a giant hole on the side of the Arizona. Maybe they will sell that as a premium camo.
Actually she had a giant hole everywhere in the front.
Arizona has a giant hole in the top. Dive bomber strike.
@@BatteryH1862
The superstructure (as well as the guns that were still usable) was taken off long before the memorial was built
Since the Arizona is in the game, I'd love to see the BB of my state...Pennsylvania. I mean the Arizona is a Pennsylvania class battleship after all.
He was moving the right way. Down :D
I'm the only that though of Kancolle when Jingles said "Fubuki tries her best"?
Hi! My name's War-gaming and this is the USS Arizona. Bang and the cruiser is gone!
Why do I not get teams like this? Honestly, the carrier gameplay makes my eyes bleed as well, considering a decent CV could have turned this battle either way for either team, but holy crap. No one ever shows me broad side multiple times
IT FEELS LIKE LYON.
Grattis hugge bra spelat
Does anyone know if Jingles is able to quote all those Torp stats etc.. off the top of his head or does he have like a spreadsheet? Seems to me it would be an amazing achievement to be able to quote all the torp/main battery/armour stats from memory.
He is often notoriously wrong on things that he quotes...most likely it is off the top of his head...
Caveat Emptor with Jingles. ;)
Akizuki is best cat and should narrate all jingles videos
Yeah I started watching this video thinking, “maybe I could try this game again” and then the aircraft carrier just laughed at all that AA and I’m pretty convinced now that I’m better off with my sanity elsewhere.
I have jingles set as my Ark Royal captain
In all fairness the Fubuki at the end did take that Ryujo out of that fight for about half of the match.
Calm down, Mrs. Slocombe
