Glad you visited, this is my favorite park! Some notes: Phoenix is best in rows 1, 3, and 12. Which of those 3 is best is down to personal preference. You can sometimes get a bit more air on Phoenix if you push down on the ground with your feet on some of the drops and hills, which can help overcome some friction. Near the wristband selling area is Fascination, a super addictive 50¢ game that you can easily sink the better part of an hour into. Some of those houses in the park are the residences of the Knoebels family, while some of them can be rented out to guests. Possibly the best food item I the park is the butter & onion pierogis next to the oasis. They cost $5.75 for 5 pierogis and they are awesome! Must try imo! The potato cakes near the front of the park are great too! The pioneer train ride is a 1.5 mi long trip under the slides, through Twister, and out into the woods where you may see squirrels, deer, and possibly more! Gotta try it at least once! Most of the medium to large flat ride (except the scrambler for some reason) either has something unique, like the teacups which run a cool figure 8 pattern or the Himilaya which is an indoor disco rave, or runs a fast/intense cycle, like their surprisingly intense roto-jets and the flyers. Knoebels, especially when everything is open like during a normal year, requires at least 1.5 days for a first timer imo. Anyway, glad you enjoyed!

It sucks that they're assigning seating based on groups this year, but I guess they have to do something to keep social distancing. I was there last week and got 4 rides. First three were in rows 8, 9 and 11. They were pretty good. But then I got a row 3 ride at the end of the day. That last ride that night was amazing. Row 3 really sends you flying what feels like even past the restraint. Crazy experience and definitely a great coaster.
Imagine the amount of precise work goes into redoing the wood on flying turns. The pieces look so narrow and smooth, even a millimeter could throw it off. It reminds of a giant bowling alley lane with smaller boards. I’d love to ride this and learn more about its history!
Been to Knobles..Love this park..Really enjoy the older family type parks. Rode the Flying Turns a few years back. Fantastic, thrilling ride. To me Mr. TWISTER was the best coaster. My daughter an I rode it like 5 times. Going to go back sometime in the future.
Knoebels used to have many cottages that people stayed at during the summer months. A lot of the cottages had themes in their design that made them unique structures. Over the years, park expansion as well as flooding reduced the number of cottages. If you walk the roads behind the haunted house and the Phoenix, there are a lot to see back there.
The first big coaster I ever rode in my life was Mr. Twister, the coaster that Twister is attempting to recreate. That was an insane ride and I would like to get over there and ride Knoebels' Twister someday.
So glad you did the bumper car this time. Also FYI Knoebels does Halloween weekends during the fall season. While the water rides are closed, most of the coasters are open and the park goes all out (not just cutesy deco either, even makes the trains, put-put cars, Scenic Skyway and many other slower rides wroth it) and the fall foliage makes it so surreal. So if you get the chance highly recommend. My favorite time the visit the park.
Nooooo wayyyyy!!!! I used to LOVE the toboggans at Magic Mountain, and would love to go on that one some day. I am AMAZED you get to tour it! Oh I wish they would let me bring my skateboard on that for a top-to-bottom half pipe run.
Not sure if anyone commented on this, but yes, the Knoebel's sign is the original front entrance to the park. Best carousel and best wooden roller coaster by far. Looking forward to getting back there with my golden retriever!
That old sign and brick gate did used to be the original entrance to the park. That was years ago before they added basically the whole area you walk through to get to there. As far as Phoenix goes, I think the reason that coaster is rated so high is because everyone can ride it since it isn't overly intense or crazy as far as stats go. But it still provides such a straightforwardly thrilling ride. The front car, specifically rows 1 and 3 provide excellent airtime but IMO, the back seat is the best experience on that ride. It's the most intense and you get pulled down all of the drops and around the turns as well as airtime that I think rivals the front. The Phoenix was my first ever roller coaster and I love it, but I also don't think it tops rides like The Voyage. I also think Twister is severely underrated, especially with how well Knoebels has it running.
If you're out by Silverwood again, you should check out the carousel in Missoula, MT. It's one of the coolest carousels I've ever ridden; it is really fast for a carousel, and has a game where you try to grab rings out of a dragon's mouth (and you win a free ride if you grab the golden ring). Just thought I'd mention that because it reminds me of the grand carousel at Knoebels.

Its a bit rough on the turns, but the floater airtime is crazy. I think you guys just didn't get a good ride, unfortunately. I have been on it at least 45 times. I've been going once a year for 20 years.
funny story so once when I was little I was at bucees. I reached up for the hand sanitizer and I went right into my eyes and face. Also the houses in Knoebels are rentals you can rent online.
I’ll trash on Twister, mostly because I always forget that the front row has a screw sticking out in the front of the car, and I’m tall enough that the ride digs the screw into my knee, and I end up with a decent gash every time I ride front row. It’s definitely more intense than Phoenix tho.
you'd think they'd come up with some sort of pinecone mitigation strategy, like throwing a net over the top of the thing or, I don't know, maybe cutting down the offending pine trees
i love being there, hell im there at least once a year because its so local for me, being free admission helps because sometimes my mom and i will stop by just for a twist cone and baill
They used to use that road alot back in the 90s. I hope to get back there next year. Flying Turns is the only coaster I don't like at the park. Edit- when there's no pandemic- going during the weekdays is a better bet and you can get the pay one price for the entire day. Worth it if you're riding flat rides/coasters multiple times. Edit 2- Knoebels and Dollywood both got the Golden Ticket awards for great food. Hope to do Lightning Rod next year.
I definitely don’t think that Phoenix is the *best* wooden coaster, but I 100% think that - in the front car at least - it is easily the most fun/addicting wooden coaster out there

Some history, yes that sign was the old entrance of the park, in fact where the ferris wheel is located now that was the old parking lot for the park and that bridge by the pool was the road going into Knoebels.
My early prediction. When Knoebels closes their water rides in the fall, i bet they will move that staff to impulse and open dry rides to replace the loss of water rides in the fall. Just my rough guess/ hopes lol
On the world best wooden coaster list my hometown coaster Ravine Flyer II at Waldameer park in Erie, PA in on the list which I think it's pretty. cool. Ravine Flyer II good ride.
I can't believe Phoenix beat out El Toro for top woodie! Just proves a coaster doesn't need to be modern, tall or fast to be good! It's really mostly in the buzz bars but they allow for so much airtime.
It is a highly perfected example of a classic medium-small woodie. But it is no shame on it to say a ride twice the size and totally extreme is a lot better.
I think Phoenix is overrated too. I think both Ghostrider and Legend are much better rides. That was way cool that you got to walk the Flying Turns track, and the montage with the music was really awesome. Well done!
Did you guys ride Haunted Mansion and Black Diamond? The latter technically is a coaster, and out of what’s open, those seem to be the two big “must do” attractions that you didn’t cover.

Impulse is closed because Zierer can’t come over from Germany to inspect the ride. At least that’s what I heard.

Yea, the maintenance staff were using zoom to connect with Zierer so the manufacturer does not have to be at the location.
