The entire time I was on the Cold War server last weekend it was teamkill after team kill in the chat. Thankfully as an AJS-37 and Huey pilot I was able to avoid most A-A fights.
I always die because I can't ID someone before they kill me. I feel like they kill me 1st and ask questions later. Then I quit and don't come back for 3 weeks, rinse, repeat
Do you know how to stop friendly fire? Ricochet damage. I don't know if it's even possible in DCS, but it would end friendly fire if the event killed you instead of your teammates.
I was squinting at pixels trying not to get a headache until I found the VR spyglass zoom, although it is a challenge to use it without smashing into the deck at a low altitude 😂
But on a serious note, if you are close enough to see the tiny wing tanks, you are already committed to a fight. It would be helpful to see a comparison between similar looking silhouettes (F-86, Mig-15, Mig-19 for example) at further distances. Wing shape for example isn't enough to tell the F-86 and Mig-15 apart at a standoff distance.
@@flyguy1237 The tails are completely different on the MiG 15 compared to the Saber. Also they have fairly different paint schemes so getting close is important.
Learned a few things. I usually struggle telling the Sabre and Farmer apart on long distances but if there is a GCI online it never hurts asking for a declare if you are unsure before taking the shot
I'm not playing MP anymore (not a very social guy, I did MP for a couple of years but finally realized that I enjoy DCS more when flying by myself), but even so I found your video an enjoyable and useful one .. the statistics were certainly kind of a shock .. best regards.
@@mvaldman2001 I realise that many people enjoy MP, but it had a lot of quirks that turned me off, like: waiting for the last guy of the squadron to connect, while enduring the chit chat of the other waiting pilots; then listening the endlessly repeat of the instructions for the benefit of all the dudes that arrive without reading the mission briefing first, once in the air having the immersion killed by the cries for help of those squad members that have not yet mastered their aircraft, etc, you get the idea 🙄
@@rudelchw Yep...as a fairly new DCS pilot, and still learning the various aircraft, i'm too imtimidated to even get onto MP servers...still struggle to get thru most of the training/tutorials without getting all FUBAR when trying to locate the target or get the target designated as SPI so that i can kill it. lol. Currently flying the A10-C II, F-16C, and just now trying to learn the F/A-18C. Using a joystick and keyboard though, so thinking of seriously buying a WinWing Orion 2 HOTAS in the next month or so...Using a keyboard for most of the HOTAS commands just makes life too difficult when seconds matter.
Thanks for the video! Good reference. However I think a side by side (mig21 vs f5, mig15/19 vs sabre, etc) would help a lot more though. I am still having a hard time IFFing (mostly end up not launching and dying). People have also mentioned difference in afterburner appearance and smoke coming in or going out of burner - would be interesting to explore in a side by side video. In the heat of battle I can never remember which is which. Cheers!
Perfect timing...I'm new to DCS and with the sale am going to purchase a few more items and the Sabre and Cold War and or 1950s era appeal to me for some reason...Appreciate the posting....really helps...Thanks
One of the hardest combinations for me to distinguish is whether I'm facing an F-16 or a MiG-21. Those wings are actually pretty similar from a high rear aspect!
Enigma, I appreciate the work you guys put in. Really enjoyed the results stream. I wonder how much front quarter missiles factor. Face shots before the merge and proper vid.
I just started playing and admittedly have team fired. Hopefully watching this a few times will help. It's hard to tell sometimes in vr so thanks for the vid it's appreciated
IFF has been and will always be very TRICKY for dumb-shit people like me flying around with a hard-on wanting to engage anything that moves. Thanks for making it easier to understand and NOT SO TRICKY.
I feel like red is less because the aircraft red team flys are more difficult / typically flown by experienced players that want that specific situation. That said it’s surprising the MIG21 is the highest on the list since the IFF is so easy to use/not as popular as the F5.
I blame P5's and people firing into furballs and not knowing how to do it properly to not kill your buddy. Also knowing when you need to go for guns and not do the missile. P.S. The Turkey is the most fun plane to shoot down. Espessialy in the MiG-21BIS Also smokey engine on the F-86 compared to the MiG-15
I feel like alot of people have been shooting first and asking questions second recently. Is there anyway to implement like a 20min ban for TK? Push people to properly VID and choose their shots better?
can you make also a quick short guide about the rules on the server? I fly the viggen now over 10 days and i am ready for cold war servers, but the rules?!?! It would be very nice
I honestly thought you were going to explain the IFF module/options inside the planes. What you explain is something i call "aircraft recognition". It was a good movie, but a bit misleading to me.
It would have been nice to show the aircraft at a distance. Everyone can identify them when they are in your face. What is hard is when they are two pixels on your 24" screen at 4K LOL. I feel a lot of friendly fires happens from people trying to steal kills. Line an enemy up for gun a gun kill, get a friendly missile up your tailpipe, because a greedy ass hole trying to steal your kill and hitting you instead. Also I can't tell you how many times I've witnessed someone spawn on top of another plane and that counts as FF.
1:15 this happens in open server, where dogs and pigs are free to enter. They don't interest respect of two sides...just enter down one (even if friend), register a movie and escape...or leave if in danger/damaged. This my ten years of WWII multiplayer experience. The best way to ruin a server is the "free entry" or the "lonely wolf". Limitate the enter to teams (at least a couple of pilots) could be a solution.
