thanks for the vid, apparently I have problem with the leaking at around that place on my 2004 chevrolet aveo. After some browsing and observing, looks like the model of the timing belt, water pump, and thermostat is similar with this car, thx again, cheers.
My tip for you Joe is to put a socket and breaker bar on the crank bolt and then rest the breaker bar on a piece of the chassis and turn the engine with the key...that should do it...good luck mate.
That sounds better nice job. My wife had a Chrysler LHS with a Mitsubishi v6. I replaced the timing belt and water pump. As soon as I loosened every thing up the duel over head cams under tension moved. What a pain. and the access was minimal. But it all worked out. Not a fan of timing belt driven water pumps.
@Gold2009Coast ..The timing belt is separate...You should be able to get a "serpentine" belt for a non A/C car...The compressors are a bugger to remove and replace.
Hi, I followed your instructions and they are great. On top of replacing the water pump, I also replaced timing belt & thermostat. However when put back in second gear it makes some sort of noise, especially when approaching roundabouts (slowing down). I feel there is a lot of pressure/tension in the engine and it seems as if it would explode if I didn't press the clutch. What do you think, where I went wrong? Please help.
love your videos on barinas as the manual is hopless for thes cars , i have a combo van ,trying to replace a SB BARINA HOLDEN COMBO RADIATOR THERMO FAN SWITCH , is there an easy way get them out to replace them as i have air con and the manual gave me a migraine Thanks in advance Macca
It seems I get slightly less out of the engine than before. I took it back home from the station tonight and honestly it does not sound right at all. Any ideas?
hi mate - thanks for the video. for the last 3 days off and on i have been trying to replace the missus water pump on her holden barrina 1993. for the life of me i cant get the crankshaft pulley bolt off. just to confirm the bolt does go anti clockwise to get off yeah? also having trouble stopping the pulley spinning. i have been putting a slotted screwdriver in the spot under the engine, but it keeps popping out? any ideas would be appreciated. thanks. joe
You did not show how to make the tensioner pulley stop pushing on the belt. I see stock ones on this for alt and like a commy but this one wont budge an inch best I can get is the nut to loosen and I don'r think I want that. PLEASE HELP, Zig
@@ziggassedup thanks a lot mate. Much appreciated. Question if you know, I’ve only just started loosing approx 100ml a day of coolant. No noises from the motor (yet). Any idea approximately how long it will hold out till I gotta replace the pump??
Does this have a separate thermo switch for the fan, separate from the guage? My gauge says it is running less than 90 degrees when warm, and will only increase enough to activate fan if you rev the engine without moving. Would this indicate a problem with sensors or thermostat to you? The heater is warm and engine feels hot.
ZIGgassedUP The radiator gets hot enough to vaporize water i spray on it. I was just wondering if the gauge ran off a different sensor to the standard on/off thermoswitch sensor i'm used to. The guage will rise from well below 90 to slightly above before the fan kicks in if parked. If driving it's always under 90. I think it's supposed to kick in around 100 degrees. The water pump is pretty worn and i got the water pump and timing belt kit today
Hi Mate, I have sb barina 97. it doest start. it cranks but not start. I have replaced the crank angle sensor and throttle body. I think it might be the fuel pump or fuel pump relay. the only problem I don't know where either are located. Are you able to give me a guide where to look cheers
a bugger to get off i guess so. I was quoted $600 and $800 by the mechanics so it must be a big job. i think i'll stick to changing it to a shorter belt lol.
hi mate, on a 1995 holden barina is the aircon pump a simple job to do? or can i by-pass it with a shorter belt and just not use the aircon? and also i the belt attached to the timing belt or are they both seprate belts? i just want to be sure what im looking at in the car and not get confused lol
hey mate i did the same thing on the same car, but wanted to do the serpentine belt aswell. I can't figure out how to get the belt around the engine mount. Any ideas? Cheers
Ocean Smith You'll need a set of metric sockets from 8-19mm...A set of of ring/open end spanners 8-19mm...a set of allen keys in metric..a screwdriver or two...and a pair of pliers..(I prefer multigrips)...and a hammer.."some times you may have to hit the pump out if it's place"..Be sure to set the cam and crank to TDC#1 before you remove the timing belt...I suggest you replace it at the same time.
+ZIGgassedUP how much should I expect to pay if the mechanic replaces the timing belt flush the radiator and thermostat, what do you think would be resonable Zig
Any chance you could take a look at this video of the noise my 2001 XC barina is making mate i have not mechanical knowledge at all but worried ill damage more if timing belt or something goes cheers in advance. Jeff goo.gl/photos/A9H4WbRyiU9J8t7n7
Ok..I hear a metallic squeal and a rumble after you back it off...I'recon the adjuster bearing is making the noise and the timing belt would be due for change..How many K's has it done.?
164,000 does have a service sticker with a date due for 9/2016 but 165,000 ks not sure if the timing belt was done back at the last service or not bud ill have to ring the place that serviced it last and ask and hope they kept a record, but if that bearing needs replacing im thinking water pump and timing belt at the same time from watching your videos its makes sense from a labour prospective well seems too. Thanks again.
Absolutely...Get a quote on a waterpump replacement and the labor should be free to fit another timing belt..Only add on would be the cost of the belt kit...Cheers mate and good luck..
Wish you were my local mechanic haha you're a genuine Aussie fella who obviously like to help people our where he can really respect you for your info and suggestions. Will let you know how I go with it when it happens. Cheers buddy 😊

Hey there how did you pull the drive belt tensioner off did you have to remove the powersteering pump
Sorry I can't remember...

@MrMattyg75 Yes....Grrr battery...hehehe
@satajet883 Yeah I know what ya mean....I'm a push rod engine fan...lol
I recon I'd be rechecking the cam timing first...
It seems I get slightly less out of the engine than before. I took it back home from the station tonight and honestly it does not sound right at all. Any ideas?
Will do that and see what happens. Thanks. Will let you know of the outcome. Where abouts are you (syd)?
And what your operating temperature cause my needle always in between 90 and 100
The black smoke is unburnt fuel so it must be running rich..Could be due to a faulty temp sender...
Hi, I already have the Gates Timing belt Kit with Water Pump, how much should it be to fit please?
About $300-$400.

As I recall the fan switch is in the radiator...Could be a flow related issue like a rusted out water pump impeller or blocked radiator...
