Cheeseball murder driver jailed for 18 years

- A Sydney woman who murdered a pedestrian for throwing cheeseballs at her car, has been jailed until at least 2027.
In giving Sarah May Ward a minimum sentence of 18 years and nine months and a maximum of 25 years, a judge said she used her car as a weapon when she ran Eli Westlake down in June 2008.
The 21-year-old was with his brother Joel and friends, walking home from a night out in Sydney's north.
The Crown said Mr Westlake threw cheeseballs at Ward as a joke after he saw her in a car with a man.
A jury was told that Ward had drunk two bottles of wine and had taken cannabis, ecstasy and valium before getting behind the wheel.
The defence argued the 39-year-old did not intend to kill Mr Westlake, but she was found guilty of murder in March.
Today, Justice Roderick Howie said she intended to injure Eli Westlake to teach him a lesson, but later regretted her actions.
He described the murder as 'a senseless act of anger.'
Outside court Eli Westlake's father, Nigel Westlake, welcomed the sentence.
RIP Eli.

Sarah is my old baby sitter. she is an amazing person and cared about those who loved her so much, ELI WESTLAKE and his party at the time had provoked sarah, and her friend, using violence and did do things to her to. sarah had NO INTENTION what so ever to kill eli.
if only people who committed these actions came forward and werent cowards she would be free sooner. sarah was my best friend and only friend who i could talk to about anything and everything. she loved me so much.
I know it's been nine months and you've probably changed a bit by now, but...
When you wish such things on anyone, even a guilty party, you do no better than that woman. Allowing yourself to be susceptible to the kind of rage that would cause you to wish such horrid things on anyone can make you more likely to do the kind of thing she did. If we wish such things when in a fairly rational state of mind, we may seek to enact them when in a very irrational state of mind.
I work near where Eli was murdered and pass his plaque daily. One person can cry over Sarah... no one else will. We all have brain snaps but not all leave a 21-year-old trapped and murdered in cold blood. Those that do deserve all the punishment they get. RIP Eli.
im not saying that she hasnt done anything wrong but i strongly beleive elis wealthy family had alot to do with why she got charged with such a high sentence, they had donated large amounts of money to the police force, only after all this happened to make her sentence more harsh. none of you knew what sarah was like as a person and none of you know her personality yet you act like she was an evil woman.
she was on several drugs at the time and she shouldnt have been behind the wheel anyway.
sarah was my closest friend and i miss her everyday, when she went to jail, it ruined my life and i was extremely upset as it hurts for someone so close to you to be taken away. i am now 14 years old and i still miss and love sarah with all my heart. just like she had taken away elis life, you took away hers, and i lost a big part of mine. she isnt a dangerous person and i do love her still so much.
i cried every day for 2 years after this happened nd it still brings tears to my eyes.

this broke my heart seeing only sarahs bad side publisized and none of her good. she taught me how to be strong and she helped raise me. i mis her living with me and i miss her talking to me and i miss her. i am not saying i dont have any feelings of sadness for eli but im just saying seeing her locked up broke me in two and hurt me deeply.

Why? Because she is a female she should be allowed to murder people? The CCTV footage shows she attempted to run Eli over more than once. Then she finally did. And killed him thus she committed murder. You do the crime you do the time.
