Hot Take: TOs should post VODs to a separate channel and stop posting anything below top 24. The RUclips algorithm cares a lot about the percentage of uploads subscribers watch. So by uploading videos that, objectively, not a lot of people care about, they are tanking melee's overall viewcount. Not to mention that the gigantic playlists that they *do* post aren't sorted and make the viewing experience for people who missed the streams abysmal. Stop overworking yourselves making thumbnails and cutting up the entire tournament, TOs. Just post the VOD and then top 24.
Less stages is definitely worse. I could never get into that one street fighter game or marvel vs capcom cause they always play on that nothing training stage or whatever. Same with Smash 4 and Ultimate.
I don't know about the one saying that a lot of players don't have fun with melee, I recently have been unable to play melee for the past month and sure I'm having lots of fun playing terraria, but I just want to get back to playing friendlies all day. It's unlike anything else.
"stock gamecube controller should be the best" I disagree so fundamentally, We should be striving to make Melee more comfortable. we're all so used to the upsides of gamecube controllers that we seem to forget that the gamecube controller sucks MAD dick, it is uncomfortable garbage, the stick degrades so easily and the gates aren't calibrated well, the triggers are horrible, the stock z button feels atrocious, and even basic things like the ergonomics of the controller are just dogshit. we play on cut springs with perforated contacts and hall effect sticks, even without notches we've done so much to improve the function of the Garbage controller we're all stuck to that it's insane so many people are against a modern, comfortable, and functional option.
My take is that its not so bad that tourneys live around 10 iterations cuz it cements eras. Kind of like the kings of cali and mlg :3 mango nation back
fountain is waaaayyy worse than yoshis story if anything ban or have frozen fountain. Yoshis isnt as bad, Randall giveth and taketh away. But fountain platforms move so much and constantly fuck over combos and create tons of reversals.
i don’t think the 2 year box player is actually close to close to having your tech skill i think they are better than you think they should be and that frustrates you, they do have access to jump constantly like z jump and 1.0 cardinals but i don’t think 2 year players have consistency in extended sequences realistically
Also BIG W on Brawl casual Smash 64 is fun due to incidental comboing but the items aren't great Melee is too heavy for a lot of stages and the items are arguably the worst Smash 4 is Smash 4, Next. Ultimate is a good blend, but the Pokemon and Assist trophies lack the insane jank of Brawl
I disagree on Mango not being able to catch back up for one reason alone Hungrybox is currently 2-0 in sets with Cody for this year. If that statistic exists, then ANYTHING can happen
Did viewership go down after hbox descent from nr. 1? At least I watched way less after Summit 11. And I watched way less ultimate after mkleos descent. Idk it could be that I unconsciously watch less, because there was no clear nr. 1 who also had legendary status because of the previous era/eras? Btw armadas reign was my favorite era.

Ask any michigan player about the bodied series and the wild after parties, I doubt thats the minority. at a regional level people are still totally communal. its different forsure, but like, acting like it doesnt happen is just wrong fr. nearly every out of state regional ive been to has been a hell of a good time. Even hotel parties at super majors are so freaking fun.

Double fox is not so much better than fox + other good character that it warrants a ban. I think the problem with fox in doubles is more so the fact that having a fox on your team is just an indispensable advantage, more so than that two foxes are so overwhelming
What about just removing chain grabs? Put a cooldown on grabbing or make it go stale where maybe the animation becomes slower the more spam it. This would also fix some part of FD

Melee was never designed to have all characters be balanced with one another (however they did a freakishly good job at this at the higher tiers somehow) I wouldn't be against giving really bad characters a few buffs to make up for removing the chain grab, I personally just hate being stuck in a cinematic while my opponent presses one button

Sheik is a slower fox. Everything comboes, everything has counterplays, you get hit hard, most players are not creative with the character.
