- I decided to dabble into my own antenna making this time and get an antenna possibly functional on the 6m band. I have never been on this band and so I didn't previously have any set up for this. I will be using my Yaesu FT-857D and the LDG Z100 Plus tuner and the LDG FT-Meter for SWR/Power readings.
The 6m J-Pole Calculator was found on the following website:
m0ukd.com/calc...
My calculator original numbers were:
A Section) 389.4cm (153.30709")
C Section) 129.8cm (51.102362")
D Section) 13cm (5.11811")
What I ended up with after testing were:
A Section) 387.65cm (152.5")
C Section) 137.63625cm (54 3/16")
D Section) 11.43cm (4 1/2")
The difference I think was were my attachment point ended up being and using the ladder line to feed the binding post.

Almost ready to get a new radio with 6m capability. In SW Michigan, almost flat, and I have a tree where I could get it up about 30 ft. It looks so easy to make, even I could do it ;)
I would say go for it. It’s been awhile since I had that antenna out but the solar cycle is only getting better. I think it’s time to revisit 6m and get it going strong. Ham-Solo K0FYR
In Europe we mosltly use horizontal polarisation yang yagis at least 5el. Sometimes less, sometimes stack from few of yagis. Sometimes 5 minutes dipole under the window 😆 and qso are happenning even in ssb 😆
Well, I name it like 5 minutes. In reality it takes about half a hour to get to fully wrapped up on 6 or 10m. Just some so239 board socket, 2 wires, on 10m band about 2,5mtrs each, o 6m band about 1,5m lenght wire. 4,9+ft, almost 5ft (6mtr band), 8+ (8,2ft) on 10 meters, each wire
Thanks for the demonstration, seemed to work very well.
Well done Michael. I was curious what the swr was with out the tuner and you answered that question. thanks for taking the time to share your test and results. 73 de Ellis WA1RKS
Yeah no problem. Using the J-Pole calculator and then assembling and testing just the right exact connection point was crucial in having a lower SWR of course. Ham-Solo K0FYR
Thank you for this inspirational video. Getting ready to make my own. Would you clarify what sections A, C, and D are for me? 73 KJ7MMX
Yes the A section is the longest section from tip to bottom. The c section is the opposite side short section and the d section is from feedpoint to bottom. Go to this website and see the diagram I went off of here. m0ukd.com/calculators/slim-jim-and-j-pole-calculator/ Be sure that you use the J-Pole and not the Slim Jim. Good Luck. Ham-Solo K0FYR
