It makes me really disgusted when people can't give credit to people who helped shape them as an artist. Marcus deserves recognition 10000% and absolutely deserves compensation!
I feel bad for the first guy who put so much time into the kid. To not even acknowledge the guy now is so shady. You can say Marcus didn't make him blowup, but he did give him an opportunity and invested his time and everything into that kid. It's sad to not even acknowledge that.
Very sad that he doesn't acknowledge a lot of things, I get the vibe that he didn't really know much of what was going behind the scenes (makes sense for a 13 year old) just because he seems so unaware and aloof on some topics that seem pretty dam big in your childhood. SO many artists remember their upbringing moments with such clarity because of how excited they are in their dreams or passion.
I thinks it's his mom thats been doing all this shit. Why let your kid think your poor, why not tell them certain things, she was using him to try and make it since she split from her money having husband. Imo
I agree here... it’s fucked yup that he leaves his name out... when, if it wasn’t for his producer Marcus’s hard work- nobody would of cared enough to listen. A well made beat makes the entire song
Have you ever talked to a 14/15/16 y/o? Unless specifically asked about certain things, they are not providing deep details on anything. If I ask my 16 y/o to tell me his life story, or even a small chunk of time in his life, there is NO WAY he is mentioning half of what went on, and possibly what I view as important life moments would be barely memorable to him. As a single mom with an ex-husband who makes quite a bit more money than I do, I tend to believe whatever agreement the adults had included taking care of anything the kids need for their education (tuition, uniforms, sports gear, etc...) - the details of their agreement not fully known to the kids. He isn't "lying" in my opinion, he just either isn't aware of all the details of what happened (so he won't remember it objectively), or he just doesn't consider some details important. He may not be legally able to mention Marcus, or something could have happened between an adult and a child that led to a falling out that he doesn't want to discuss publicly. Saying that he's lying is ridiculous. He just isnt saying what you want him to say, for any number of reasons. I happened across this video bc I'm trying to bond with my kid through music. The mom in me had to stand up for him, because he was still what most people consider a kid when most of this stuff happened.
He may have also gotten a scholarship, boarding/private schools love students that are musically talented and will dish out, esp performing arts ones. If he already had a couple of cosigns before the performing art school there's no doubt in my mind he got at least a partial scholarship

In Australia, a lot of schools actually help pay students fees if they are in a struggling situation, I know a few people who have done this, as well he probably went their off the back of how talented he was and got a music scholarship
Kid Laroi is indigenous Aboriginal Australian. He gets scholarships and free welfare due to what Aus government did during the mid to early 1900s. Quick google search will show all the benefits they receive including access to private schools. This video is not that well researched tbh. As it is researched and view from an American's perspective. Any local Aussie would be able to point blatant holes in his argument.
He would still be sent to a public school not a private school. They cant do it for one child and not another, so there is no way he was attending a private school for free. It just doesnt happen and if it does its extremely rare. This kid was methodically sent to the top by people in the industry behind the cloak of being the "poor kid who just wants to make it". Thats fake and fraudulent no matter what way you look at it. They knew that he would be liked more if people felt sorry for him. In my opinion thats just as bad as lying about having cancer to make money. Its the same thing really, its fraud.

Indigenous students are helped with the finances of schooling, and most catholic schools allow indigenous students to educate with minimal cost. I knew of Laroi growing up in Sydney, his best mate went to my school. However, he got a Scholarship to the performing arts school and didn't have to pay. He seemed very genuine and still keeps in touch with his mates down here. He grew a buzz in our area due to the fact that Australian rappers never make it out, and we knew he was going places, his performances were unmatched at such a young age and his energy was on another level. Source for Indigenous financial help through catholic and Marist schools: "We recognise that for some families, school costs can be difficult to cover. It is our promise that no student will be refused enrolment or disadvantaged due to financial difficulties. Byallawa means ‘yarn up’ or ‘speaking together’ and in this spirit of cooperation, Catholic schools in the Diocese of Parramatta work in partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families to help them afford a quality, Catholic education."

@@PatrickCc there’s a whole bunch of comments saying they like him less, that he left marcus for clout, and that he’s manipulative. but holy crap u replied bro
I think you are somewhat ignoring the fact that most private schools in Australia have scholarships for children of single mothers - often covering about 80% of the School fees. On top of that, he has indigenous blood, meaning he would be eligible for additional government support and scholarships. Many of the schools even have quotas where they must take in a certain amount of low socio-economic students. I work in the Australian Education System and can assure you that a large proportion of the children at Private Schools in Australia would easily be classified as "poor".
I was just about to comment the same thing! I’m American but my family moved to Sydney when I was 11yo going into year 7! First off broken hill is not middle class it’s ghetto lol second, EVERYONE goes to private schools lol I lived in a really bad western suburb of Sydney and there was probably 8 private schools in our area and 2 public schools. And even the public school wear uniforms like that. And yes nearly half of the kids I went to school with where on the Dole (welfare) and the State of New South Whales paid their tuition. Even I got a partial discount for being foreign. The only sketchy part of his story is the Marcus part but I think that’s as simple as his mom calling the shots because he was 12 lol. And lastly, yes triple j is huge but triple j unearthed is much much smaller. I follow both in IG and just look at the difference in their audience. Unearthed gets like couple hundred likes where triple j gets tens of thousands. So it’s not like he won the triple j hottest 100 or something, that would be Wayy bigger deal. His lackadaisical attitude towards it is just consistent with how he always acts lol

Coming from a home where my mother was the bread winner, I feel this 150%. No strings are pulled when it comes to trying to provide the best life for your kids. My mom is nowhere near LAROI status but has provided the best she could, even through the “seminary” school she had me attend where she thought I would go down a more righteous path but end up doing the opposite, at a school where they teach you to be a clergy-man.
hey patrick, I'm 17 from Adelaide and attend a competitor school to Sacred Heart. I never met laroi, but I have close mates who live in Glenelg who knew him personally I can definitely confirm he attended there, and I'm reasonably confident he was on a scholarship. He was bullied and had opportunities elsewhere, which would be the reason he left after just six or seven months. I also think this is the reason behind his private education when he lived in Waterloo, scholarships are quite common in Australia especially between grade 7-10. I think the strangest part of this is that Triple J is THE big dog in the Australia music industry. Despite being a producer myself, I can only name two radio stations and that's one. One of my friends has amassed 5,000+ monthly listeners on Spotify, and her biggest achievement has been placing in a Triple J contest. Moreover, in Australia, rappers don't just get a casual 100,000 views, as you claimed Laroi did with his nonstop remix. That's making it in our eyes. Loved the video, make sure to let me know if laroi shoots you a dm 😏😏

As someone who is a parent and poor, You would be surprised what you would go without to make sure you can give your kids a better future. For example, a private school.
Yeah, I was going to say I've always been poor but for 5 years of my brothers and I schooling we went to catholic schools that are quite expensive, however I was only able to go thanks to being in bad circumstances and my parents becoming friends with st. Vincent dePaul higher ups, who became long term family friends and paid for our education. Going to those schools was really rough though because it was really obvious majority of the other kids had a completely different life experience thanks to being well off. edit: he is a bit sussy though fr
Side note why do private school kids get a bad rep. I went to private school, for 13 years and I came from lower middle class my parents worked hard to put 5 of us through private schools. We also received financial aid. Also classrooms were not as good as public schools, everything looked second hand, just had much less students and it was way harder to get a higher GPA than public schools.

You pretty much summed it up with 'that's how the business works'. I've never understood the industry plant term. Would that not make every artist before the internet an industry plant? Executives find talented musicians and mold them into superstars. It isn't a big conspiracy and it's nothing new.
@@prexcher7742 I'm not saying they're not real artists. That's just how the industry works, a 'real artist' by your definition would be someone who has no major connections or support and is completely independent. Something that a lot of people have been able to do, but that doesn't mean that artists who didn't have a fan base before getting signed aren't talented or are industry plants. Like I said that's how the music industry worked for years before the internet provided a platform for indie artists to build a fan base before being signed.
My family was very blue collar growing up, more on the lower end. But my 2 siblings and I both went to Catholic school, well I only went until 5th grade until I wanted out, but my little brother and sister both stayed. My parents weren't religious but they thought the education and morals were worth it, and we went to church on holidays and stuff but that was it. They were able to afford this by volunteering and helping around the school at events. They gave a significant discount for it. But it def paid off. When I went to public school in 6th grade I was at least 2 or 3 grades ahead. It was sweet cause I already knew everything so I could just focus on making friends. As someone who got a small taste of this industry starting at age 12, it's easy to pass judgement on the moves he has made, but there are SHARKS in the industry at every turn waiting to bleed you for whatever money they can then move on. At that age, you should be 100% directing all these questions at his mother because she was making everyone of these decisions at the end of the day. And him not mentioning things in interviews is 100% normal in my opinion. I dont know many artists that do bring up questionable things from their past unprovoked in interviews. You'd have to assign some of that blame to the media always serving him the same softball questions over and over and over. I dont doubt he tried to embellish his upbringing a bit because he was a young kid going off the advice of people only interested in the money and not the culture of the music he was making. The truth, no matter how corny you might think it is, will always be at least respected more than whatever flashy lie you can come up with. i know this video is older and was out before his move to Scooter Braun's SB Projects, but you can see that they are about to really work on making his image, real story and music all match. What is not considered is Laroi’s mother wasn’t just funding “a 12 year olds rap career” It makes sense she would be making that drive because she was also supporting her SELF as well when it came to her management career. Makes the 6 hour drive much more warranted when it’s not dumbed down to just supporting her son
KOORI (meaning aboriginal) radio is an aboriginal music station in sydney highlighting local aboriginal talent. there is very limited material from koori artists so it would've been very easy for laroi to feature without any industry support
As far as private school tuition goes, many exclusive schools in Australia provide scholarships to kids from disadvantaged backgrounds. Laroi has aboriginal heritage and would likely have been able to get a scholarship on that basis. For anyone who doubts his heritage, his rap name derives from the Kamilaroi people. He wasn't travelling 6 hours each weekend from Broken Hill to Adelaide. He went to boarding school in Adelaide. His uncle that was murdered was involved in the drug trade. Maybe he isn;t fully transparent about his background because he doesn't want to expose his mother's history of drug abuse and dealing. In indigenous culture, older people are referred to 'uncle' and 'auntie' as a mark of respect. The man from Glenelg is probably not a blood relative. Finally, you say that he never talks about Adelaide. Maybe he does. He doesn;t control what the likes of Jumper etc decide to keep or discard from the final edit.

Source for Indigenous financial help through catholic and Marist schools:
"We recognise that for some families, school costs can be difficult to cover.

Thank you!! I was actually going to post about the scholarship part in Australia- kudos

I can definitely confirm he attended there, and I'm reasonably confident he was on a scholarship.
You pretty much summed it up with 'that's how the business works'. I've never understood the industry plant term. Would that not make every artist before the internet an industry plant? Executives find talented musicians and mold them into superstars. It isn't a big conspiracy and it's nothing new.
Yep,,,almost most of them were industry plants haha, kinda tells you something about hollywood as a whole
And if they weren’t then they became one ☝️
I’d like to believe there’s real ones
@@prexcher7742 I'm not saying they're not real artists. That's just how the industry works, a 'real artist' by your definition would be someone who has no major connections or support and is completely independent. Something that a lot of people have been able to do, but that doesn't mean that artists who didn't have a fan base before getting signed aren't talented or are industry plants. Like I said that's how the music industry worked for years before the internet provided a platform for indie artists to build a fan base before being signed.
@@prexcher7742 it's like saying Michael Jackson is an industry plant.
But the difference in education is unreal.

The truth, no matter how corny you might think it is, will always be at least respected more than whatever flashy lie you can come up with.
i know this video is older and was out before his move to Scooter Braun's SB Projects, but you can see that they are about to really work on making his image, real story and music all match.

just a note about the whole "howd he win this competition then immediately get hooked up!" part of the video - the triple j unearthed competition is literally made to do just that. triple j isnt just a radio station they are a HUGE part of the australian music industry and sponsor / run heaps of the music festivals and tours here - theyre part of the ABC, so get major funding. being set up and connected to people in the industry is literally one of the perks of winning the thing so its not strange at all imo.
My theory: They needed his father's support bottom line I believe he paid for the education for the better of his son. However kid laroi may have wanted the rap dream his whole life but didn't want to be under his father's wing... he may have been trying to avoid what people are calling him now. I believe he has true talent his music hits so haard!! There is true passion in the lyrics. He didn't want it to seem like his dad was responsible for his success.
That and his story is more relatable then if he were to tell the turth not as many people would probably listen to him and thats a given he has this depressed gothboy thing thats what gets him alot of attention but in reality he is a rich white kid.
Very true but people create the persona they feel most comfortable in.
Maybe he wants to be a depressed goth boy lol
It's 2021 he could identify as a helicopter
All I know is being born rich has a bit of shitty sides to it too.
My theory: He had a rich dad who only paid for necessities and education, and he had great management who saw potential in him and his talent
But he do be making bangers tho, and that pretty much is all that matters
Kid Laroi is indigenous Aboriginal Australian. He gets scholarships and free welfare due to what Aus government did during the mid to early 1900s.
Quick google search will show all the benefits they receive including access to private schools.

Ryan lu man I get that it's entertaining but this a sad mentality of everyone now. We glorify made artists who make up a persona that isn't real or lie about their lives. We support fake. I'm sorry, I think kid laroi is most likely a good dude that got caught in industry bs.
@@benson827 The government kidnapped children, trafficked them, raped everyone from toddlers to teens, released them giving the just enough welfare to drown their sorrows, formula to conquer people, they did it to Native Americans and Maori within a 50 year period, they call it the big steal, we call it stolen generations in Australia, that included forgotten Australians.

Seen 3-4 videos now. Great content😊
He doesn;t control what the likes of Jumper etc decide to keep or discard from the final edit.
so true
