I remember "Open All Hours" from our caravan holidays at Fallbarrow Park in Bowness, back in the '90s. It was one of the few grocery stores in the lake district where you could find decent stuff at the same prices that you did at home. Shopping there for something for tea was a regular occurence for us. The only real alternative back then in Bowness was the Co-op (very little choice,) or a trip up to Windermere station to go to Booths (where the food for a single meal for two parents and four kids, would set you back about the same as half a week's grocery budget back home!)
Excellent video. Like you Lee have spent many happy times in the Lake District as lived near Lancaster until my early twenties. We’re due a break in Newby Bridge later this year and will definitely go to Bowness, just hope we have the weather you did. Lucky devil .
Going to Bowness 15th September for our 26th anniversary for 3 days. Went last year on a rode trip, on a day/night stay. Fancied a mini break this time. Taking our time with a boatlake thrown in on day 2. Got two weeks Majorca 10th July. Hope your right about green light hopefuls. Great film love it.
Hi hun the place we stayed at was Lonsdale hotel in Bo'ness. It was a lovely little hotel to stay in and the staff were lovely. And there is car parking at the back of the hotel xx
Superb vlog Lee, I'm loving the series from the UK 🇬🇧, I'll have to get back to the lake district soon, loved the open all hours bit, you nutter 😂 just as funny back then, thanks again mate 👍 👍 👍
Hi Lee, what a great series of vlogs on the Lake District. Lots of blue skies so you’ve shown off the Lakes at their best. Tenerife wasn’t an option for me this year so I booked the Lakes instead, I’ll be there in a few weeks! Keep up the excellent work!
And when we got there it was a sunny week for me and the family in the Lakes as well. So missing Tenerife wasn’t so bad after all. We went e-biking at the place where you did your vlog near Keswick, that also was a great idea!
Lee I have watched the whole Lake District series tonight I think it has been one of the best I give it a 10 I’ve been not feeling so good so watching your videos has cheered me up 😊👍😀
Well done Lee, you’ve done the lakes proud, the local tourist board should pay you for your promotion. We have had some fantastic breaks exploring the lakes, you have brought back some fantastic memories. The weather never bothered us once we got kitted out in Rathbones in Keswick. It is extremely beautiful no matter what the weather is like or the season. Especially beautiful in the autumn.
There used to be a camera shop at the Crag Brow end of Ash Street, run by a very non-tourism-aware proprieter. Back in the '90s we popped in there to get a film for my daughter's APS camera, to be told he didn't stock anything of the sort: "I don't like APS," he said to us, "I just don't hold with it so I don't carry it!" A few years later I heard from a friend that they'd had a similar experience while attempting to buy a memory card. He apparently felt the same way about digital photography too. The shop isn't there anymore - perhaps the lesson to be learned is that he should have moved with the times, regardless of his own personal preferences.
Class vlog super MAC we were at bowness all weekend couldn’t move on Sunday it was that busy and Monday it reached 23 degrees nearly as good as los cris it was☀️😎. Back for a week staying at white cross bay then hopefully🙏🏻🤞🏼Tenerife end of August Keep up the good work brother 👍🏼👍🏼
Hiya Lee really enjoyed your UK videos. Love the old clips. Beautiful place. Napkin. Happy days. Lol. :D Beautiful views. Your ice cream looked nice. Enjoyable video as always. Thank you for sharing. Have a great Tuesday. Take care.
Don't walk straight across a roundabout Lee 🤣 Thanks for all the Lake District vlogs been great. I got sunburnt in Sidmouth yesterday oops. Have good time in London with Darren!! Xx
It's so beautiful Lee. Will so miss these lovely vlogs but looking forward to seeing all your new ventures. Sending lots of love and good wishes for the next chapter. 🥰🌞🥰Xxx
My mum and dad me and my partner are going here in November staying at Virginia cottage never been so will be a nice experience but before that have two Whitby trips booked the first one coming July.
Hi. Don't know this area, it looks beautiful & so interesting.. I could look at this view for hours...What a surprise seeing you when you was younger! Still the same Lee your sense of humour 🤗
The way that couple look at you talking to your fish and chips so funny 🤣🤣they probably thought you was let out for the day Lee 🤣 🤣🤣it beautiful there as that shop said on the sign love the lakes ❤🏞 love them little shops and restaurants there. and the view is stunning 😍 love the old video of you outside the shop a star in the making there 🤣📽🎞⭐Hope you enjoy that lce cream Lee 🍦🤣😊x
For me a good chip shop peels and chops its own spuds, you can always tell the ones that get frozen ones delivered. great vlog Lee, shame about them chips.
Mentioning making own chips takes me back to a holiday as a teenager where my room overlooked the back yard of a Greek or Italian cafe. Early every morning Grandma all in black would sit with a sack of potatoes and turn them into chips, much shouting and grandma would get a drink and food. We would then go to breakfast.
F me mate u look like a long haired Rodney trotter haha amazing video as always encouraging the uk and abroad to visit the amazing uk to holiday when the Suns out we truly can’t be beaten EVER
👌👌👌👍......Best of this little mantage for me...We like to go at least once per year for three or four nights. Always stay at Laurel cottage..Great digs👍
I agree with you about chain type cafes n restaurants in beautiful tourist places. They actually have macdonalds by the water front in Florence and Venice and in a main square in Rome. No no no. Ha. Can't beat local chippies and local wine So lucky with the weather lee but whole of summer looks good.
Hi hun we stayed there for are Anniversary one year. Love that place as you say lots of lovely shops and pubs there mind that the seagulls doesn't get them lol xx
@@lynnerowlands5052 We always used to take our kids for lunch in The Ship Inn, at least a couple of times while we were on holiday in Bowness. The attraction for us was that 'The Kids Menu' wasn't restricted to the usual burger, sausage, fish finger or pizza with chips and beans, that you found at most pubs. You could actually get kid size portions of all the regular menu items, even Sunday Lunch. It was always really good value for the kids too, because the 'child size portions' were just regular portions with fewer potatoes and smaller portions of veggies, (which my kids, like most kids, were always fine with,)
Hi Lee, your so close to my mate Nigel, sub postmaster Windermere Post Office. We been to Bowness many times, they're used to be a lovely carvery to eat at a pub next to the Lake. Shame it closed 😕
I’ve really enjoyed the Lake District vlogs Lee. Yes I love my hot, sunny foreign hols, but equally I love places like the Lakes and south Pembrokeshire just as much.... but in a different way 😁
Great video yet again! One of my favourite places in the lakes, haven’t been for a couple years. Hopefully I’ll be able go back soon. Are you going anywhere else in the uk?
Living in Lancaster Bowness is just a short ride by bus or train for those of us who don't drive. Always use Seafarers chippy, Vinegar Jones are more expensive being on the main drag, plus Seafarers cook their fish to order. Looks like it was evening when you visited, we usually head home around 7 or 8-ish though in 2016 we spent the whole evening there at a concert to raise money for the victims of the 2015 Cumbria floods, Status Quo were the headline act and it was a fantastic atmosphere.
What a lovely wee place! Edinburgh has a lot of side streets with unique shops and pubs! Thoroughly enjoyed this series, but I’m looking forward to your new Tenerife series soon! Have you booked your flights?
Very nice part of the country . Ive hauled a few loads of logs out of the lakes area . Very narrow roads in places off the main roads . Infact thers a local lad who i think has a narrower truck to help with the narrow roads . A lot of those cafes are very expensive deffo catering to the tourist trade . Not all the local trade . Still very nice places around this area . Just saw a shop called the neon sheep . Didnt realise that fallout from chernoble had reached that far haha . .
Looks wonderful especially when the sun is shining, where are you going next have you considered snowdonia? love that part of the world , Llanberis is fab and then a venture to Anglesey etc.
That place looks amazing. In your mind you are still that young man and then you look in the mirror! Know the feeling. Was that your mum laughing in the background? Incidentally just realised Rate my Takeaway is on the One Show on BBC.
