    The new metal fence looks fantastic; it's a huge improvement over the chain link fence on many levels. Have you gotten your ice cream bean trees to set and fully ripen pods?

    In places that don't get a lot of sun that metal fence would be very helpful with some things.

    amazed you can plant tree that close to block fence (?!). How can you keep an area moist without moisture wicking up into blocks ?

  • @HungQDang
    @HungQDang 4 месяца назад

    Starfruit has always been a very productive fruit tree even when neglected in their native range. So that amount of fruit on a small tree is pretty normal. Which mean you've done a lot of thing right to meet all the condition for it to produce like that in a place like Arizona.

    I planted a Florida Prince Peach tree that we purchased last spring and waited to plant in Oct when we got back. It had a lot of
    fruit this spring but there were too many on it. Lesson learned for next spring. Now all the leaves are turning yellow. Is this normal? I will send you a picture.

    Growing star fruit really doesn't make sense because you can't eat a lot of them (research) and they produce way too much. Sure you can give them to people but I'd rather grow something that I can eat a lot of.

    • @SuburbicultureAZ
      @SuburbicultureAZ 4 месяца назад +6

      It makes a ton of sense. A beautiful tree with one of the most tasty and unique fruits in the world. As the fruit matures the oxalate content decreases, and by the time it's fully ripe it's only contained in the very edges of the ribs which can easily be trimmed off. Spinach is way worse than carambola.

    • @ArizonaFruitTrees
      @ArizonaFruitTrees  4 месяца назад +10

      @@SuburbicultureAZ yes. Not only that but I only eat one a day. If i ate 8 oranges or a whole watermelon, i would get sick. Everything is eaten in moderation, too much steak will kill you too!

    • @tinyjungle_
      @tinyjungle_ 4 месяца назад +1

      @ArizonaFruitTrees fair enough. If I had a ton more space, I'd still grow one.

    • @tinyjungle_
      @tinyjungle_ 4 месяца назад +1

      @SuburbicultureMicroFarm It's not just the oxalates which are still in the fruit even if you remove the edges. It also has a neurotoxin named after it. Are you suggesting you can eat a lot of it without any concerns? Healthy kidneys or not, you shouldn't eat a lot of it. That's how I framed my argument. Of course you could eat a lot of it, but you probably shouldn't based on the evidence.
