    Abandoned & Forgotten Places
Documenting abandoned mines like never before!
Let's take abandoned mine exploring to the next level!
With your support you can help make this the best abandoned mine exploring channel on RUclips!
Shot entirely in 4K! ...so, turn up those video settings!
On this channel we go deep... REALLY DEEP into abandoned mines and tunnels all throughout the western United States. We researched some of the harder to find mines and hiked or 4x4 back into them to explore and reveal their hidden secrets. Many of these remote locations are filled with cool artifacts, antiques and unique geology that will have you guessing as to why the old prospectors worked so hard to find gold, silver, and other minerals.
A&FP moves just a bit slower as compared to other mine exploring channels. Gly discusses why the miners chose these sites and he points out the geology and minerals that got them excited. Veins of quartz filled with gold and silver made many men lose sleep in the 1800’s and early 1900’s and modern prospecting still does to this very day.
DANGERS? Oh yes, there’s allot of dangers associated with old mines. Un-exploded dynamite, blasting caps, bad air, bats, spiders, and snakes all find their home in abandoned mine shafts and tunnels. Oh, and let’s not forget rotting timbers, flooded passages and collapsing rock!
Gly takes abandoned mine exploring seriously with all the proper safety equipment, training, and experience necessary to do this activity as safe as possible but that doesn’t mean we can’t have a bit of fun along the way. “Gly”, your host and his band of crazy characters “Old Bob” (Gly’s Jeep), “Quackers” (Gly’s duck) and “Bobbie” (Gly’s hula girl) are sure to brighten your day with their comments and silly antics. Heck, they may even give you a chuckle or two.

Hi again Gly. Wow watched 38 and 39. What a mine and only seen a small part of it. Amazing and scary the ones that built and worked it, and for you and Frank scrambling thru it. Sometimes the bigger the chambers the more scary and awesome. Just blows my mind the work and effort and the guys digging all this out didn't make much from it. Shame that exploring it further is off. I am guessing it won't be long before the earth consumes it back to itself. Take care Paul

My brother and me were adventurous when we were young we back packed in Yosemite just the opposite of where your going. We had a lot of fun now both of us are pushing 70 I appreciate all the comments you do to help people understand the area. This was an awesome adventure! I’ve hunted in that area before, never explored the mines. Now I can, sitting in my Lazy Boy recliner! My parents moved us from Michigan to the town of Queen Creek, AZ, in 1969, we lived about a mile from the Santan Mountains. There was a an old man named Manzel Carter that lived up there in a shack, no power or water! He had a partner named Marion Kennedy, they did some mining up there. His partner died in the early 60’s, he buried him up there! Manzel has been dead since the early 80’s, he was a gentle soul, we loved to ride our bikes up there and visit him. I really enjoy your channel! You really know how to “Bring us with you”

Really really unbelievable!! Unbelievable that such a mine exists and unbelievable that they went into it!! Unbelievable that those stulls can and do continue to mostly hold up the mountain!! I had to watch it many times. Many things are said to be dangerous but in this case it is actually true!! I saw Gly smile much more in this episode than usual! Actually risking ones life can be exciting.

Hey "Gly", that has to be one of the most interesting mines that I've seen on youtube to date. It looks like really good ground for the most part. Very little artificial support outside of the stulls in stopes. Just want to make a slight correction and hope I don't come off as a dick. At 3:50 You tell Frank to be careful because it's "all cut and fill down there" and I'm guessing it's because you believe that to be a cut and fill stope. In all of these old mines you're exploring and most of the holes that Frank crawls around in BC, all of the mined out areas are what are referred to as shrinkage stopes. They drive a narrow raise up into the ore off of the haulage drift often all of the way up to another level. This is then used as an ore pass/secondary manway ending at the chutes you see on the lower haulage levels. They then work their way from the top down, thus "shrinking" the pocket of ore that they're mining and leaving the large emptied cavities supported by stulls and pillars behind.
Cut and fill is a fairly recent (ie mid-20th century) methodology that works in reverse in that they drive a raise into the vein off of the drift all the way up to the next level but then they start mining from the bottom up, leaving a long horizontal pillar in place above the haulage tunnel as the "floor" of the new stope. Once they've knocked the back (ore) out of reach, they stack a bunch of heavy steel rings on top of each other above the chute that will make up the ore pass as they mine up.
The mill will have a Back Fill Plant that cyclone sizes the processed ore (tailings) to produce a sand product that they mix a little cement in with until it has the consistency of roughly toothpaste. They then pump this mixture back underground and "back fill" the stope, bringing the floor up to the top edge of the top stacked steel ring. Once it's set-up, the miner returns and starts a "breast" ie a suspended face that he works through the ore across the back. Rinse. Repeat.
As in shrinkage stopes, he uses slushers to pull the ore to the chute for removal from below.
This methodology only became possible with the development of reeeaaaallly specialized, stupidly expensive pumps (GEHO, ZimPro, a few others) that have to develop even stupider pressures to move this stuff through the pipes and back into the stopes.
But there's quite a few major advantages when you can do it.
    Cheers

      @AbandonedandForgottenPlaces  4 года назад +3

“Gly”: Great comment! Yes, I used cut n’ fill as a generalized term but I understand that’s there’s a more explainable reason why the miners did what they did. In that situation for all I knew Frank was walking over a 1000 foot chasm hidden by a false floor and the words cut n’ fill were the first to pop out of my mouth. Adrenaline, situational awareness and self preservation all play a roll when filming these locations and all of that can sometimes muddle the commentary. This was the Grand Canyon of mines here in the SW and I was pretty excited to see it first hand.

It was interesting to see the drone footage and listen to the history of the mine you were going to explore, thank you Gly. The scale of the place is just amazing. The shots with Frank in front did give perspective on the size, along with you explaining the thickness and height of the stulls. It was extremely sketchy in the mine I did feel nervous for you guys. Ballsy - most definitely. It was nail-biting stuff when you went through the landslide area, couldn’t believe the amount of timber and rock just piled above. Excitedly looking forward to next week’s episode. Thank you for sharing your adventures and a Happy New Year to you. Take care and be safe! ❤️👍 👍

Thank you, Gly for taking me on an adventure again! I am unable to do what you do. I love the places that you take me to. Such beautiful scenery and the mines just amaze me to no end. I hope that one day soon that you can get something to hold your camera so that you can use both your hands to traverse the mine. xx

“Gly”: I have that equipment but it’s next impossible to do camera transitions when your exploring a mine with Frank. Lol. Ever chase a little kid on a sugar rush around the playground? Yeah, it’s kind of like that. He’s awesome to work with but I really need to start putting low doses of Valium in his coffee before these adventures. ;)
