I used to have a very heavy chronic disease. Years on end I spent all my time in bed. This song became my theme song in 2017. When I listen to it, I still feel that despair and suffering. But most of all, thank you for the feeling of hope. After 7 years in bed, I am healthy again.
This is a very powerful video for a lot of personal reasons. Sam was actually in leg braces for much of his young life. But one time he had to outrun a truck full of bullies and the leg braces broke off. From that point on, he was runnin'. Also played football at Alabama and started a successful shrimp boat fleet. Still loves to run.

Another one of those guys that you look at and say, "that voice comes out of that guy?" I've heard people say they don't like his voice, but I love how unique it is. He doesn't sound like anyone else.
It has sooooo much fucking power in it. It's raw emotion.
@@em_birch To me, his voice has an early Motown quality that I didn't recognize without the context for awhile. Then I heard it on the "Seasons" remix.
@@Deguello23 The difference between his speaking voice and singing voice is so drastic too. It's...kinda magical to me, the way he sings.
And knowing he's from a place not too far away from where I live gives me so much secondhand pride. He's so cool.
@@em_birch I get it:) I had my mind blown a little when I saw him on an episode of "what's in my bag" and he he turned out to be an old hip-hop head. I even have a few friends like that, that just don't radiate that at all but can really geek out on old hip-hop. I'm not really like that, but stuff like that always makes me a much bigger fan of an artist, when they're grazing places you'd never suspect.:)
@@Deguello23 Yeah. Sam's relatable to me in other ways. You're right about those little, human things making us feel closer to musicians and artists (not in a weird way).
Those connections are important too, imo. Especially with more of us being isolated now. We can see ourselves in these people, in some ways. We feel less alone.
This is an underrated band. The lead singer is amazing and so are the lyrics of every song.
This song will always remind me of the 5 days I spent away from you in Oklahoma. You found this song and told me to listen to it, that it made you think of me and miss me. The first time I listened to it I cried. Its 6 months later and even though you chose a different path, away from me, I will always love you and think of you when I hear it. ❤
Update: We couldn't stay away from each other. We will celebrate our 4th year on 08/04/20. We saw Future Islands in concert together and still consider them to be one of "our bands". ♥️

This song strikes a powerful and emotional chord that resonates within me like nothing else. My lady has helped me through a very difficult time and gave me the strength to place it behind me. I haven't always been the easiest to get along with and have even a pain in the ass, but I'm her pain in the ass. She hasn't given up on me and continues to encourage me to "run" towards the new version of myself. I love you, Tamara! 🥰

Just an incredible song by an incredible singer. I had the privilege of seeing them live in concert - they didn't do Run but were truly memorable!
"And what's a song without you, when every song I write is about you." Gets my heart every time. Future Islands got me through many a melancholy days. Started listening during "On the Water" and they are still one of my favorite bands.
I was a teen in the 80's and I swear these guys time traveled from then to now in order to make their music, and have just been waiting for us all to catch up with them.
Will always remember this as the soundtrack when me and my son Sam took the train from Bratislava to Stary Smokevic a few years ago and eventually we watched the band in Manchester in 2022 - good times!
I notice that the major public that like Future Island are in 40's and as a girl with only 18 years I think it's a shame the youth don't appreciates more the gold songs that they made.

I'm 30 and known of Future Islands since 2009 when I was 17. I had my finger on the pulse and knew a lot of indie scenes back then and had a feeling of what was gonna be hot. Future Islands always bubbled just moderately under the surface but not enough to break into radio airwaves.

I know this kind of coments are kinda cheesy, but its impossible for me not to share mine. In the middle of the pandemic my mother colapsed from out of nowhere. It was a brain tumor, the same that took Neil Peart. After a surgery, chemo and radio she was looking like winning. But it came back fiercely, the last two months were bizarre and tough, she was fading away in front of us. I was already hooked in this song for so long, while she was dying I would take my bike and go far away hearing songs on my phone. But this hits different, it makes a lot of different feeling pop and even now, 2 and half years later it brings me tears of joy and sadness. I miss her so much.

I remember meeting them one year at sasquatch music festival and when Sam introduced himself, we quickly embraced. He actually gave me his hand first but we went for a hug instead.
Years later, I worked at red Robin for a few years and this song would play. I always loved shazaming music and I'd usually know the band but not always the song. Weirdly enough, even though I was going through difficult times, I was weirdly happier. I was happier when I was poor as Ben gibbard once said! Lol

Really like Future Islands, watched them for the first time on Jools Holland a couple a years ago and was memorized by Sam Herring and how he throws so much emotion into each song, seen a few interviews from him and he seems like a top geezer.
